An Alternative Metal / Alternative Rock group from Portland, Oregon, Kutless is yet another popular band in the Christian rock community, sharing their popularity with other bands in their genre such as Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Pillar, and Disciple among others. Softer than most of their competition, the band is known for their precisely melodic ballads rather than their harder side. Since their formation, they have released the following original albums: Kutless in 2002, Sea of Faces in 2004, Hearts of the Innocent in 2006, and To Know That You're Alive in 2008. They have also released 2 worship albums, Strong Tower in 2005, and It Is Well in 2009. They are working on a 7th album, entitled Believer, though it is unknown if it is a standard rock album or another worship album.

Kutless provides examples of:

  • Christian Rock: Listen to their worship albums. Just the fact they made them makes this pretty obvious.
  • Vocal Evolution: On the band's first album, Jon's voice was rather nasal and sounded a bit like Scott Stapp of Creed. On every release afterwards, his voice gradually got less nasal and got smoother.
  • Mohs Scale of Rock and Metal Hardness: Anywhere from 1 to 6.
