Tropes in K.A.A.N

  • Abandoned Catchphrase: He does not shout “LAWD!” or “KNOWLEDGE!” at the beginning of his songs anymore.
  • Animated Music Video: His song “STRAIGHT FACE” has an animated video of him telling the story of his youth years while appearing in animated form and driving a Rolls-Royce while drunk, stabbing his teacher, hijacking an airplane, and going underwater in an Escalade.
  • Batman Gambit: Played With. His lyrics are about how he isn’t famous, which has worked in really making himself famous.
  • Boastful Rap: Inverted, as he talks about how depressed he is and how he will never achieve success. This is more like self-loathing rap.
  • Bookends: "KAANCEPTS" begins and ends with the "KHAAAAAN! yelling scene from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
  • Catchphrase: He shouted “LAWD!” Before he begins rapping for every song in his earlier music.
  • Determinator: Every song he creates is about him continuing to work despite his mental health issues.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In his earlier music, he edited his vocals by splicing up different takes, and putting them together in order to give off the illusion that he doesn’t take pauses or breathes between rapping, which is naturally impossible to do with the voice.
  • Fun with Acronyms: His name stands for “Knowledge Above All Nonsense”
  • Girlish Pigtails: He sports two big frizzy pigtails in the video for “The Good Book”.
  • "I Am" Song: In “KAANCEPTS 2”, he sums up the meaning of his name and talks about his career as a rapper.
  • Incoming Ham: Almost every song begins with “KNOWLEDGE! N***A!….. LAWD!
  • Mental Story: Almost every single song he created. His lyrics are centered around his depression, and how stressed out he is creating music. Just listen to the lyrics.
  • Motor Mouth: Why this is his trademark. He raps extremely fast in his music, and it’s sometimes edited to make it seem that he doesn't breathe or take pauses.
  • Medium Blending: The video for “STRAIGHT FACE” features cartoony people with realistic drawings of cars and planes, and trippy backgrounds over the top of them.
  • Refuge in Audacity: In the video for “STRAIGHT FACE”, he drives drunk, stabs his teacher, and hijacks an airplane while looking Muslim.
  • Sampling: In “KAANCEPTS” he uses the instrumental of “Deep Cover” by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg.
  • Self-Deprecation: He's generally known for this in his music, but here are some notable moments.
    • In “KAANCEPTS”
“And I understand that the music is fake.”
    • In his remix of "Rap God"
"My confidence is low I am no rap god, rap god"
    • In "Mary Jane"
"I been killing myself for a dream I don't even believe in. It's really entertaining when you give it your all"
  • Sequel Episode: “KAANCEPTS 2”
  • Shout-Out: In “KAANCEPTS”, two words from a wise man.
  • Singer Name Drop: At the end of “KAANCEPTS” he says his name as the last lyric.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He really goes to town on swearing in most of his music.
  • Stylistic Suck: The video for “STRAIGHT FACE” uses low-budget Flash animation and is lazily animated in order to emphasize the silliness of the song and its lyrics.
  • Suicide is Shameful: In “Church”
Cause nobody cares about suicide, n***a. Just take all of your feelings, put them to the side. Then you start telling lies!
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: He appears as a featured rapper in other music such as "Everyone Knows" by Cassie Jo Craig, and "WAR PLANZ" by Dem Jointz.
