"What Is The Brother"

Ednaldo Pereira is a well-known Brazilian singer, beatboxer, songwriter and Living Meme. Known for his distinct charisma and humor and born in the city of Guarabira in the state of Paraíba, Ednaldo has been posting content to the internet since 2005 and has been relevant at least since 2007, when he released his first video clip, "Chance". He quickly became an internet celebrity due to his rather unique style of composing and low budget video clips. In more recent years fans of his work would help him get his content out there more, and he would in turn share several fan works dedicated to him, including but not limited to photoshop edits (or, as he describes it, "Montages"), memes, fan videos and even Fangames. He would also be eventually joined by bassist Fleig, who was introduced to Ednaldo through a YouTuber, and now helps Ednaldo more than ever with his internet celebrity status, acting as basically some sort of PR guy. One instance of this was when Fleig also gave Ednaldo the idea to make videos on TikTok giving random names to Pokémon, as he was (and still is) not at all familiarized with gaming in general. The idea succeeded, however, and his videos went viral.

Notable songs:

  • What Is The Brother
  • Chance
  • Vale Nada Vale Tudo note
  • Mesclado note
  • Banido Desbanido note
  • Mulher Oferecida note
  • Homens Que Entraram No Vagão note
  • God Is Good
  • Who Is The Sister
  • Invenção note

What-eh Is The Trópi:

  • Aerith and Bob: Some of the names he gives to Pokémon in his TikTok videos definitely fit this. At one point you'll hear a relatively normal name like "Pedro" and then suddenly, "Editá Poupres", "Milene Demko", or... "Meat Roasting Skewer".
  • Ambiguously Human: At least fans seem to treat him that way - seeing him as a higher deity, a god among men. He doesn't seem to mind it though, he even reposts the memes and "montages" that fans make with him being depicted as such.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Don't talk to him about those who make "Liar Montages" (see below) to ruin the image of Ednaldo Pereira. Such people are for instance the "Dark/White Elite", a YouTube channel who made YouTube Poops of Ednaldo with very grotesque titles.
    • Don't talk to him about the former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, either. He's worth nothing.
  • Best Friend: Fleig.
  • Broken Record: Some lyrics in his songs come across as this. "What Is The Brother" is a good example, as every verse starts exactly the same way, only changing the lyrics coming in the next bar.
    • "Fleig" and "Banido Desbanido" plays this trope completely straight.
  • Characters: He has a couple of his own, such as Chico Melancia (Chuck Watermelon) and Bill Fumaça (Bill Smoke).
  • Chroma Key: Used in some of his clips.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Some consider Ednaldo to be one. Refer to the Stylistic Suck example below.
  • Common Time: Most of his music follows a very standard 4/4 time signature.
  • Concept Album: Deconstructed, some of his album releases appear to go for something like this, like his album "Invenção", named after his newest song, but then end up having only that song, maybe another new song, and then re-releases or retakes of his older songs.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: In some post, he has a tendency to call videogames "jogo de game"; since "jogo" means "game" in Portuguese, he's basically just calling them a "game game".
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Inverted - The song "Invenção" (Invention) is all about things Ednaldo did not invent. He did not invent the cemetery. Nor life, or death.
  • Full-Name Basis: Ednaldo Pereira almost always is pronounced together, especially by the musician himself. However, this is a subversion, as he also has "da Silva" as his last name.
  • God Is Good: The song.
  • Gratuitous English: A staple of many Ednaldo songs, like "What Is The Brother", "Who Is The Sister" and "God Is Good".
    • Recently he's taken a liking for the word "Pog", pronouncing it as "Poggy".
  • I Am the Band: At least until Fleig came along, most of the music production came from Ednaldo himself, along with an unseen keyboardist, who would musically reinterpret the beatboxing of Ednaldo.
  • Iconic Item: His sunglasses are very remarkable.
    • And so is his Casio keyboard.
  • Insistent Terminology: Doubles as Arc Words, Ednaldo frequently uses words like "Interessante" (Interesting), "Marcante" (Remarkable) and "Atemorizante" (Frightening) to describe many things, often fanmade content that is sent to him. Image edits, memes and even YouTube Poops are "Montagens" (Montages), if they're ill-intentioned however, they are "Montagens Mentirosas" (Liar Montages). If you somehow go too far, he will ask you to delete it, or rather... "Exclua!" (Exclude/Delete/Remove)
    • In his fictional stories which he refers to as jokes, "Suco de Chocolate" (Chocolate Juice) is a drink that supposedly exists.
    • He also likes to use the words "Banido" (Banned) and "Desbanido" (Unbanned) quite a lot, for some reason. Even beatboxing about it, as he does.
    • One band he likes is Red Hot (Chili Peppers)...or should I say "Rid Hot" (Pronounced "Heed Hotty")
  • Limited Lyrics Song: A few songs have this to an extent, or at least a repeating pattern. His latest release "Invenção" being the best example, given that all the lyrics is comprised of "I did not invent (something)" several times.
    • Ednaldo once did a song with Fleig on the bass... where all he sings is "Fleig" over and over again.
  • Lyric Swap: In "Vale Nada Vale Tudo", on the second loop of the song things get inverted in the lyrics. Things that are worth nothing are now worth everything and vice-versa.
  • Protest Song: "What Is The Brother" is notable for criticizing the "life system" and talking about living in equality.
    • The ending of the first video clip for "Vale Nada Vale Tudo" left several people in confusion due to it showcasing several politically charged images. Ednaldo states that those were not his own additions and that they were added by the video editor on their own.
  • Punny Name: In one of his videos mentioning the names of his channel members, he cites an user named "Kuca Belludo"... which sounds like "cu cabeludo" ("hairy ass" in Portuguese). Apparently, he either didn't notice the pun or didn't mind. In another, he mentions "Paula Tejano", another joke name which sounds like "pau latejando" (throbbing cock)
  • Random Events Plot: Some of the stories (or "jokes") he tells are exactly this. For instance, his Chuck Watermelon story where a random truck driver comes into the scene, asks a girl for a glass of water, then she immediately gives him a glass, then asks him if the water is good, to which he replies with something along the lines of "This ain't no water... this is some... Chocolate Juice" then the truck driver grows wings and flies away with his truck and everything.
  • Self-Plagiarism: His song "Who Is The Sister" has exactly the same lyrics as "What Is The Brother", only with a different backing track and replacing all instances of "What Is The Brother" with "Who Is The Sister"
    • The same can be said for his song "Mulher Oferecida" (Offered/Offering Woman) which gained a Gender Flip for the song "Homem Oferecido" (Offered/Offering Man)
  • Serious Business: In one occasion, he replied angrily to a comment he received in a Instagram post with "Delete this negativity comment immediately". The comment in question was just the word "dick".
  • Signature Line: Several remarkable phrases came out of Ednaldo Pereira. But most of all, whenever he posts in social media, most of the time he literally ends his posts with his own name as a signature. Ednaldo Pereira
    • Whenever he finds something really funny, he will say that was "de torar". It's apparently a family-friendly version of "de foder", so it basically means something like "funny as fuck"
  • Stealth Pun: Pereira's first extended play is simply called "Ednaldo Pereira".
  • Stylistic Suck: On his social media videos you will see often that Ednaldo constantly moves his phone's camera up to his face, then down into his stomach. His explanation regarding this is that the camera movements are meant to simulate a spaceship moving up and down.
  • The 'Verse: People often treat Ednaldo as the main character of his own Universe in which his partner Fleig exists, and so do the characters that Ednaldo created himself, and even his "villains". this is especially notable in the Fan Game.
  • Updated Re-release: Some of his past video clips get remade every now and then. Sometimes in a style similar to the original, but sometimes in a completely different setting.
  • Word Salad Lyrics: While some of his songs talk about the betterment of society, other songs don't make a lot of sense, the most prominent example being "Mesclado".

"Valeu Ednaldo Pereira" note
