Drive-By Truckers are an American band that straddle the lines between Alternative Country, Southern Rock, and Hard Rock. Formed in Athens, Georgia by guitarist/vocalist Patterson Hood with fellow guitarist/vocalist Mike Cooley in Athens, Georgia in 1996. The two had previously performed together in the Birmingham, AL-based band Adam's House Cat in the late 80s, and had both grown up in the Muscle Shoals area (Hood's father David was the bassist of the famed Muscle Shoals Rhythim Section). The band's lyrics often focus on telling stories of both the good and the bad of Southern heritage (or, as one song calls it, "the duality of the Southern Thing"), and they are known for their energetic, freewheeling live shoes.
