I Get Around

All Summer Long is The Beach Boys' seventh album released in their discography. The first album they released after the British Invasion happened in the US.

This album is home to some major events in the band's career. One of its singles, I Get Around, was their first song to top the US charts and put them up as the american answer to The Beatles. I Get Around as well as other songs such as Little Honda, the title track and Wendy would go on to be staples in The Beach Boys concerts, establishing I Get Around as one of the band's definitive songs. It was also during this album's recording that manager/father figure Murry Wilson would be fired, leaving more artistic freedom for the band. This freedom includes a step back from the surf rock genre which defined their early sound (only one song on the album references surfing) while still keeping a summer vibe for this album.

While re-using and refining elements from their first five albums, All Summer Long has been considered to be one of the best Beach Boys early albums.

  • Drive-In Theater: Drive-in
  • Filler: Our Favorite Recording Sessions is a spoof track where the band messes up the recording of Do You Remember and the title track.
  • Great Escape: We'll Run Away
They warned us that we can't live on love forever
But we just tell them we'll get by somehow
    Our problems will be greater
    We'll worry about them later
We'll run away and get married anyhow
  • Heavy Meta: Do You Remember is about rock'n'roll and the artists who contributed to its foundation.
  • Instrumentals: Carl's Big Chance.
  • Lyrical Cold Open: Hushabye, We'll Run Away and Girls On The Beach.
  • One-Woman Song: Wendy
  • One-Word Title: Hushabye, Wendy and Drive-in.
  • Product Placement: Little Honda (duh) and the title track:
'Member when you spilled coke all over you blouse

Miniature golf and Hondas in the hills
  • Shout-Out: Quite a lot on the rock'n'roll tribute song Do You Remember:
And remember, only you can prevent forest fires
    • Little Honda
    Its not a big motorcycle
    Just a groovy little motorbike
Its more fun that a barrel of monkeys
  • Spoken Word in Music: Our Favorite Recording Sessions
  • Step Up to the Microphone: Dennis sings the bridge of Girls On The Beach Boys
  • Stop and Go: Don't Back Down has a few seconds of silence before its last verse starts.
  • Studio Chatter: You can hear someone coughing on the instrumental bridge of Wendy''.
  • The Cameo: Beach Boys sound engineer Chuck Britz can be heard on Our Favorite Recording Sessions.
  • Title Track
  • 12-Bar Blues: Do You Remember which is no surprise since it talks about rock'n'roll. Little Honda as well.
