General
- SHIT GETS RUSTY, ALL THE DOORS ARE LOCKED. ExplanationSummary of the town after it switches to its Dark World.
- The alleged leaks from May 2022 brought countless memes, though they mostly died down in the next month:
- A photo of an unknown female with several papers, including one saying "I hate myself" being pasted onto her, quickly spawned many edits, usually editing another character's face to include the papers. The character also drew comparisons to Life Is Strange and Jared Leto's version of The Joker from Suicide Squad (2016).
- The image of a messy room led to edits where another character was added into it, typically a character with a messy living situation.
- A character from one of the pictures quickly grew popular and was given the Fan Nicknames "Sakura Head" and "Cherry Blossom Head" due to its cherry blossom motifs.
- The sheer amount of leaks led to people taking random images and claiming that they were "leaks" of a new Silent Hill game.
- Putting clown makeup on ExplanationA self-deprecating joke involving fans looking like fools or "clowns" by tuning into events expected to give info on new Silent Hill material, only to get nothing. Posts like these are often accompanied by pictures of clowns.
- HIT THE LEVER! ExplanationFrom the trailer of the infamous Silent Hill pachislot machine, which was announced in place of any future Silent Hill game.
- Was this song made with [specific appliance]? ExplanationJokes that specific parts of the soundtrack were made with certain appliances, such as a broken printer for the butterfly room music in 2 and a dentist drill for My Heaven (though the latter wouldn't seem too far off).
- A further mutation of this is claiming that the sounds of specific appliances are a song from a Silent Hill game.
- Silent Hill? More like Loud Hill! ExplanationAnother joke about the soundtrack, this time saying that, for a franchise called Silent Hill, the series has a lot of loud and abrasive tracks.
- Comparing Silent Hill 4: The Room and P.T. to The Room (2003) is popular, for the name alone for the former, and for featuring a ghost named Lisa who attacks you, bringing to mind the infamous "You're tearing me apart, Lisa!" line.
Silent Hill
- Chad Dad/Chad Mason ExplanationA nickname sometimes given to Harry Mason by his fans, which probably has nothing to do with the infamous "chad" stereotype and is more of a form of appreciation.
- "Huh, radio. What's going on what that radio?" ExplanationSaid by Harry when discovering the radio in the first game. The abrupt shift from dismission to curiosity makes this quote memorable for fans, and in places like r/silenthill, images of a radio are usually accompanied by the quote.
- Have you seen a little girl? ExplanationHarry asks every character in the game if they've seen his daughter, almost to the point of a Catchphrase. Used to demonstrate his stupidity and/or determination.
- Probably a doghouse, though I'm not sure since there's no dog around. ExplanationHarry says this while standing in front of a dog house after encountering several monster dogs. Used to demonstrate his stupidity, especially with one image◊ depicting a dog leaping at him AS he's reading it!
- "It was FORETOLD by GYROMANCY. ExplanationOne of Dahlia's lines, which seems like some phrase of divinity at first, until you realize that gyromancy is a type of fortune telling that involves spinning in circles until the one doing the divining passes out. Seriously. Many fans have found it silly imagining Dahlia doing just that.
- The Incubus/Incubator died out of fear.ExplanationSince you can only beat the final boss of the first game with firearms, having no ammo will cause a script to run that makes it rapidly take damage and die quickly. Many people joke that in-universe, the Incubus/Incubator was so terrified of Harry not having any ammo that it was Driven to Suicide or simply died on the spot.
Silent Hill 2
- Pyramid Head is going to rape you. But it's not rape if you let him. And you know you will. ExplanationPyramid Head (not its actual name) and its tendency for rape have been flanderized to hell and back.
- GOOD HEAVENS, JUST LOOK AT THE TIME. ExplanationComes from an image where Pyramid Head is standing next to a clock with the word "RAPE" replacing the numbers. The image spawned numerous derivatives featuring different characters and words in place of Pyramid Head and "RAPE", and is a common thread derailing device on image boards like 4chan, where the words are used to indicate what the "new" topic of the thread will be.
- "In my restless dreams, I see that X".ExplanationThe letter that James's deceased wife Mary gave him in Silent Hill 2 begins with the iconic line "In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill." The line is often used in reaction to Uncanny Valley videos or images, with the subject matter replacing "town".
- September 29th/“Happy release day” ExplantionSome online retailers had the Silent Hill 2 remake's release date as September 29th of 2023. Of course, the date passed with no release of the Silent Hill 2 remake, while some made joke posts “celebrating” the new game release on that day.
- There was a HOLE here. It's gone now. ExplanationA drawing on a wall that James encounters. Used to summarise the Mind Screw nature of the series. Also sometimes snowcloned as "There was a/an X here. It's gone now."
- "This town is full of monsters! How can you just sit here and eat pizza!?" ExplanationAn infamous quote from the second game, notable for being one of the only explicitly humorous moments in the game (besides the joke endings). It pops up a lot in comments sections of videos with the song "Alone in the Town" playing, and is sometimes spun around, with "monsters" and "pizza" being swapped.
- The reprise of "Promise" has a memetic reputation in certain parts of the Internet, especially in Spanish-speaking communities, due to being used in countless creepypasta reading videos.
Silent Hill 3
- The track "Never Forgive Me, Never Forget Me" became memetic in late 2021 after being coupled with the "Titan Staring" meme.
- "It's bread". ExplanationIn Silent Hill 3, while in the bakery, you can examine the bread, and Heather will make this insightful observation. The full line is, "It's bread. But I'm not really hungry, so I guess I don't need to worry about it." This led to fans making Heather obsessed with bread and adopting it as her Trademark Favorite Food.
- "Monsters...? They looked like monsters to you?" ExplanationVincent's iconic line, which provides a darker interpretation of the creatures you've been fighting and has been snowcloned to hell and back in the fandom.
Silent Hill 4: The Room
- Walter Sullivan and circumcision. ExplanationIn 2015, an admin on the wiki modified several pages to reflect his theory that the main antagonist was circumcisied, all while proceeding to go on a tirade against American society. After being called out by fans, staff that worked on the series, and The New York Times, the admin's subsequent arguments and meltdown made it so Walter Sullivan will almost always be connected with circumcision by the fans, usually jokingly. In fact, as of June 2022, "circumcision" is still one of the top search results on the wiki.
Silent Hill: Origins
- Travis' ability to store ridiculous numbers of Portable TVs in his jacket. Oddly enough, portable TVs only make up about 5% of the large, bulky items Travis can pick up.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
- It's a boat. It's like a car, but runs on water. ExplanationA memorable line by Dahlia once you encounter her in the boat, which fans found amusing.
- My mother was a bitch. ExplanationAnother line from Shattered Memories, said by the same breed of dog (a Shiba-Inu taking the place of Cheryl) from Silent Hill 2's Dog ending.
- Cheryl? Cheryl? Cheryl! CHERYYYYYL!! Sweetie? ExplanationYet another line originating from Shattered Memories, this time when Harry calls out for his daughter in the beginning of the game. It doesn't have the same level of infamy as Cheryl's "I love my daddy", but due to its Narm Charm, it's somewhat popular among fans.
- I love my daddy. I love my daddy. I love my daddy. I LOVE MY DADDY. I LOVE MY DADDY. ExplanationHow Cheryl announces her feelings towards her father in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. It's somewhat infamous in the fandom due to the line being repeated a lot.
Silent Hill: Downpour
P.T.
- "Dad was such a drag." ExplanationThe first line of the ending of the P.T. demo for Silent Hills, which will almost always be quoted whenever P.T. or something that at least barely resembles an aspect of the game is brought up.
Silent Hill: Ascension
- It's trauma! ExplanationSilent Hill: Ascension's Rewards Pass had, as an unlockable at level 13, a sticker with this phrase written on it in a cheery rainbow font that one could post in chat. For many fans, this became a symbol of how badly Genvid missed the mark with Ascension, not just in finding a way to push microtransactions into the game but also in what they saw a glib, flippant Flanderization of the series' themes as boiling down entirely to the main characters dealing with personal trauma.
- "I like to make jams." ExplanationA scene with a viewer-cameo extra involves an incredibly strange conversation about berries and how the man in question likes to forage for them and make jams, as well as how he's seen "strange things in these woods" with no further elaboration. This became the subject of widespread mockery for how utterly bizarre and nonsensical it was, especially as said character promptly leaves and the conversation is not brought up again, even after he returns later.
