• BRB, reinstalling Deus Ex. ^Explanation A reference to how fondly remembered the game is, even almost two decades later. Whenever someone mentions it on a forum, someone else is compelled to play it once again.
• "Oh my god, JC a bomb!" "A bomb!" ^Explanation This exchange between the pilot and the main character is the most notable instance of voice acting failure in the game.
• What a shame. ^Explanation Another example of failed voice acting. Here JC is commenting on the death of a friendly NPC, and says the line with no emotion at all.
• What a rotten way to die. ^Explanation A rather hilarious glitch in a side mission allows JC to murder a man in front of his daughter, and then eulogize him in the next moment.
• My vision is augmented. ^Explanation JC's explanation for why wearing Sunglasses at Night isn't a problem for him.
  • My pimphand is augmented. ^Explanation A certain non-lethal double takedown in Deus Ex: Human Revolution has Jensen knocking two opponents together then backhanding them both at once. Naturally, there are many YouTube videos demonstrating this on Detroit's prostitutes.
• The Recut, one of the oldest machinimas, single-handedly spawned a few memes, including unforgettable phrases like "Why contain it? S'cool.", "UNATCO hurt my weewee", "I might as well start using coke." and "Old Men are the future."
  • The Malkavian Mod, in a similar vein, has spawned a number of memorable phrases, many of which revolving around the GEP gun.
  Paul Denton: The GEP gun takedown is always the most silent way to eliminate Manderley.
  Graf Zeppelin (Manderly as a pigeon): Get PILLS against my orders!
  Alex Jacobson: Gunther's in that room. Remember that a headshot is a Lethal Takedown.
  Jack's Corpse: Glad to finally meet you agent... I'm a BOMB.
  Darkness: We're 100% BLACK.

  • The "Locked in the Bathroom" Scene from The Malkavian Mod is especially memorable, enough so that it's become memetic outside of the Deus Ex community. The entire exchange is seen as the peak example of the mod's surreal, absurdist humor.

• Mr. JC Denton, in da fresh. ^Explanation  Maggie Chow's hilarious Engrish lines from a voice actor who is very obviously not Asian and is just putting on a bad accent.
• "The industry, as a whole, has grown up." ^Explanation A quote from a developer explaining the rationale for dropping the old health pick-up model for a regenerating bar. Used by many a sarcastic forumite, especially when discussing game evolution.
• I speeeel my DRINK! ^Explanation A line said in a funny accent by a sailor background NPC in a bar, and used as the test line in the game's audio options.
• ICARUS HAS FOUND YOU!!! ICARUS HAS FOUND YOU!!! ICARUS HAS FOUND YOU!!! ^Explanation A creepy email found later in the game, signifying that the villainous AI Icarus is after you. Note that the actual message is "Icarus found you" without the "has".
• Do you have a single fact to back that up? ^Explanation JC's skeptical response to an NSF leader's conspiracy theories. It's commonly used as a reaction image to express doubt about wild accusations and, appropriately enough, conspiracy theories.
• *Lip Smack* ^Explanation  JC Denton's voice actor has a tendency to do lip smacks between lines, leading to some impersonating him to intentionally do it, complete with highlighting it in subtitles.
• Why contain it? ^Explanation  Bob Page's hilariously evil dialogue with Walter Simons in the game's intro is extremely memorable due to the writing and acting of Cliff Stephens.
• I never asked for this. ^Explanation Deus Ex: HR's Adam Jensen never wanted to be augmented. It's also a phrase that's extremely applicable to lots of things.
• I'll never stop looking. ^Explanation One of Jensen's lines from a trailer. Often used to rejoice.
• AAADAAAAM, I TOLD YOU TO STOP READING THIS IN MY VOICE, SON! ^Explanation David Sarif's surfer dude accent is quite... distinctive, and is most obvious when he says the character's name.
