Manly Tears in fanfiction.

  • Axis Powers Hetalia fanfic Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità: Germany sheds these after Italy proposed to both him and Japan.
  • Evangelion 303: Shinji sheds them often in the doujin: after finding out that Asuka survived the Unit-04's crash, while retorting Gendo's lecture, during his marriage proposal to Asuka... And nobody ever suggests that he is somehow less masculine for it.

  • HERZ: In chapter 12 Shinji sheds a single tear after Rei has said goodbye to him.
  • In Kyon: Big Damn Hero, Kyon after he learned Rika's backstory.
  • Invoked in Light and Dark The Adventures of Dark Yagami with Light. "HE started crying with happy but then stopped and man cried instead which was more manly."
  • Tiberium Wars has these shed by Commander Karrde when the survivors of the 4th Recon Battalion unanimously volunteer to help serve as recon troops for the armored attack on the White House, after having suffered fifty percent casualties under his command just a day earlier.
  • Lots of them in Guide Me Home, especially at then end when Ursa and Zuko are reunited. Then again, given the source material, Manly Tears are expected.
  • In Merlin fanfiction A Game Well Played, Arthur cries (but only two, silent, desperate tears, one at a time; thus, manly) because he can't save Merlin from Cold-Blooded Torture without betraying Camelot. And he won't betray Camelot.

  • In the The Adventures Of Blinky Bill fanfic Scars Are Forever, Danny Dingo actually sheds a couple tears when he sees Shifty Dingo dying of a coma in the hospital. Danny later breaks down crying in the final chapter when He says his final goodbye to Shifty before committing suicide.
  • In Human Curiosity, Prussia cries in The Bonus Chapters, when he gets his memories back and reunites with Germany. One chapter also has England cry when he learned that Portugal was "dead", which led to him waking up from the dream-memory while still crying.
  • In one of the short fiction pieces accompanying the Alternate History timeline On the Shoulders of Giants, we're treated to the sight of an Artificial Intelligence shedding these. (Or rather the alien equivalent, which is a bit complicated.) Given the circumstances, the reader is probably doing the same.

  • Obsidian Citrine in the Hunger Games fanfiction Some Semblance of Meaning. When he tears up during his interview, Caesar Flickerman cites this trope by name, and it certainly isn't the last time that Obsidian is brought to tears, either. (Yet he's still undeniably manly.)
  • Alicornundrum: Sundiver, one of Twilight and Nyx's personal Royal Guards, absolutely bawls during Twilight and Ink Spot's wedding, much to the disgust of his partner Lightning Blitz.
  • In Robb Returns, Jorah Mormont cannot avoid crying when he meets the Company of the Rose and hears the Northern accent for the first time in years. The Krats, too, as all the houses in the Company state they will, too, return home, and he retakes his true name.
    • Edric Dayne cries as his father dies, after naming him the new Sword of the Morning.
  • In This Bites!, both Wiper and Cricket shed a few when promising to meet up in Skypiea.
  • The Pieces Lie Where They Fell: In the sequel Picking Up the Pieces, Night breaks down and lets loose with these when his parents finally show him affection for the first time in years.
  • Commander Rex in Back From the Future is in the middle of submitting his monthly report on the battalions numbers when he realizes it's the first time ever that none of his men/brothers have died since he last submitted one. He breaks down sobbing over the revelation.
  • When Temeraire rescues Laurence from arrest and flies him and his boarding crew back to their pirate fleet in Black Wings, Black Sails, Laurence weeps without realizing it, overcome with being with the dragon he thought he would never see again.
