"Ichigo Kurosaki. Wake up and face reality. This… is Bleach!!!"
Sozuke Aizen

In the forum swamps, Tite Kubo’s Bleach has often been the target of mockery and parody, to the point were several non-fans have kept on reading it just for the laughs. Two of those readers went as far as cleaning the original pages of the series, remaking them with their own dialogue and part deconstructing part completely altering the context of whatever happens to be going on at the moment. This odd mixture of Affectionate and Deconstructive Parody became the 500 pages and growing The Truth About Bleach.

Within its own universe, the story follows actor Chigo Chase, hired by Tite Kubo to star in his new manga Bleach. What could have become an interesting series is slowly turned on its head as said author doesn’t seem to have the faintest idea what he’s doing and Chigo becomes increasingly aware that signing that contract may have been the biggest mistake of his career. Cue random plot twists, lots and lots of Lampshade Hangings and snarky characters who may or may not always be acting according to script.

The parody originally came to be after the infamous reveal of The Big Bad’s intentions in Bleach Chapter 397. The creators originally took full chapters and changed all of the dialogue, however have since gone on to abridge the main arcs instead to avoid forced filler. To date, eight full-length chapters have been released as well as two 150-page abbreviations of the Soul Society and Arrancar Invasion arcs.

Can be found here.

This series provides examples of:

  • Expy: Through-out Soul Society, Hitsugaya is played as Near from Death Note.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Inverted. At Rukia’s execution, Ichigo wasn’t trying to sacrifice himself, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Mistaken for Profound: Aizen monologues.
Ichigo: You didn’t deny anything I said. You just told me the dictionary definition of the word “truth”.
  • No Fourth Wall
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Ichigo acts out of character so many times one it could hardly be called that anymore, especially when following the script.
  • The Reveal: So many.
    • Aizen killed Aizen.
    • Ichigo’s life was planned out by Aizen. The twist that initiated the series.
    • Kubo hates his own series.
    • Aizen is schizophrenic and there is no such thing as hadou.
    • The sleeping-bag thief is not Aizen.
  • Shout-Out: Common occurrence, most prominently to Death Note (another series about Shinigami) and One Piece.
    • In the Chapter 180-237 collection, the evolution of hollows is compared to that of Pokémon. For a Vasto Lord to reach Arrancar level, one would need a GameShark device, alternatively a genie or a wish-making device such as the Hougyoku.
  • Spider-Sense: As Ichigo crashes in on Aizen detailing his 100-year pursuit of the Hougyoku, he remarks that his “bullshit sense” is tingling.
  • Splash Page: Aizen’s ultimate plan is apparently so riveting it takes one of these to reveal it. He misses his opportunity when pointing that out.
  • Take That!: A whole point of this parody.
    • There is also one for translation groups:
    Aizen: Domo, Captain Unohara.
T.N.: he says "domo", which can mean both "thank you" and "hello." (pun intended)
  • Writer on Board: In-universe example. A Tite Kubo avatar takes the role of Isshin Kurosaki.
