Strike Witches: One-Winged Witches is a World Witches manga written by franchise creator Fumikane Shimada and Project Kagonish, with illustrations by Atsuko Shinozuka. It ran from April 2011 until June 2012 in Comp Ace magazine. Seven Seas Entertainment picked up the license to translate the manga into English and release it outside Japan.

Set prior to and during the first season of Strike Witches, it revolves around Wilma Bishop, the oldest sister of Lynette Bishop from the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, also known as the Strike Witches. Wilma had just arrived at the headquarters of the Isle of Wight Detachment, another unit of Witches also assigned to defend the Commonwealth of Britannia, the franchise's equivalent to the United Kingdom, from the mysterious alien race known as the Neuroi. This unit is under the command of Misa Kadomaru.

Managing to hear that her new comrades are in the middle of a battle, Wilma finds the nearest Bren machine gun and Striker Unit and rushes to help. Despite appearing out of nowhere and only getting to know Wilma after the battle's over, the Witches of the Isle of Wight Detachment welcome their newest member. In-between battles, Wilma gets to know her fellow Witches.

One-Winged Witches contains examples of:

  • A-Cup Angst: Amelie Planchard and later, Francie Gerard don't think their respective breasts match up to Wilma's.
  • Bittersweet Ending: While we all knew it had to end with the 501st JFW and the Isle of Wight Detachment saving Gallia from the Neuroi, the Witches have to go their separate ways while the war is still ongoing.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Laura Toth has this. When her home country of Ostmark was the first to face the Neuroi's onslaught in 1939, her unit took high casualties with herself as the only survivor.
  • Demoted to Extra: The 501st JFW doesn't do a whole lot in One Winged Witches, since it focuses on Wilma and her relationship with the Isle of Wight Detachment.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Anyone who has watched Strike Witches before reading this manga will already know that the Isle of Wight Detachment will help the 501st JFW save Gallia from the Neuroi, and Amelie and Wilma will help Perrine reconstruct Gallia.
  • Freudian Excuse: The above Dark and Troubled Past for Laura has her developing the idea that it's best to avoid working with others lest they get killed for not keeping up with her because she can avoid attacks easily. When recruited into the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Laura's mindset gets her in trouble with her squadmates. Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke, fearing the consequences of letting Laura do as she pleases, had her transferred to the Isle of Wight Detachment.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Wilma does this to Amelie shortly after the former is recruited into the Isle of Wight Detachment and assigned to the same room as the latter.
  • Prequel: The first six chapters of this take place before the first season of Strike Witches. The seventh chapter onward dovetails into the aforementioned season, complete with the last chapter taking place the same time as when the 501st Joint Fighter Wing are engaging the Neuroi Hive controlling Gallia.
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Beginning with the seventh chapter, One-Winged Witches takes place concurrently with the first season of Strike Witches.
