Junpei Manaka is on the cusp of high school, and he's obsessed with only one thing: movies. He has dreams of becoming a director one day, and often goes out and daydreams of the movies he wants to make on the roof of the school.
One day while going there, though, he catches a glimpse of a beautiful girl... and her strawberry-print panties. For the first time in Junpei's life, he notices the opposite sex. It also helps that the mystery girl left behind a notebook, filled with a story that Junpei can't put down (and would make, in his opinion, a great movie). Obsessed with this mystery girl, he isn't sure where to turn... shy bookworm Aya Tojo, whose name is in the notebook, or confident school beauty Tsukasa Nishino, who outright told him she was wearing strawberry-print panties. Of course, other girls eventually start showing interest in Junpei...
Strawberry 100% (Ichigo 100%) is a manga written and illustrated by Mizuki Kawashita, which ran from 2002 to 2005 in Weekly Shonen Jump. It was adapted to anime in 2005, and has appeared in Jump Super Stars and its sequel (despite being a slice-of-life high school romance). One thing that makes the series interesting is the fact that the series itself makes it unclear who the main character will end up with, despite the assumptions one would make about this sort of series. This resulted in much uproar when the main character finally made a choice.
In 2017, Aya finally got a spinoff of her own, titled Strawberry 100%: East Side Story, detailing what happened to her a couple of years after the penultimate chapters, but before the epilogue.

- Accidental Innuendo: Happens In-Universe when Kozue, during a test, asks to Junpei help with the "H". She was referring to the question with the letter H, but Junpei mistakes this for a request of help for Hentai...so, sex! He has also a nosebleed and Kozue flees, embarassed.
- Accidental Pervert: Junpei several times.
- Adaptational Attractiveness: The girl who catches Junpei while he's sneaking around Oumi Academy, and tries to make him her S&M slave is a lot more attractive in the anime.
- Adaptation Distillation: The anime (OVA included) only adapted part of the manga and changed some elements.
- Almost Kiss: A Running Gag: most of the times Manaka is going to kiss one of the girls (usually Tojo), someone interrupts.

- Beautiful All Along: Aya becomes better looking by letting her bangs down, and beautiful by taking off her glasses and unbraiding her hair.
- Beta Couple: Komiyama and Chiname for some time.
- Better as Friends: Subverted with Satsuki. At one point she just wants to be friends with Junpei, but later she returns to pursing a relationship.
- Big-Breast Pride: Satsuki. On one occasion, she mocks Yui this way, accusing her of being jealous because she is flat-chested. And one of her Berserk Buttons is when she is compared to Professor Kurokawa, the only character more busty than her.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Chinami. She act like a cute and innocent girl, but is very manipulative with the boys.
- Bittersweet Ending: Despite Aya and Satsuki having successful jobs, especially the former, it’s implied in the ending both still have feelings for Junpei and both are still single.
- Butt-Monkey:
- Komiyama is frequently made fun of because of his peculiar, octopus-like lips and his desperation in finding a girlfriend, and is the main recipient of Amusing Injuries.
- As a harem protagonist, Junpei is frequently subjected to this as well. He's often mocked and abused, with characters remarking on the pairings he has in the series, and he initially doesn't succeed when it comes to filmmaking.
- Buxom Beauty Standard:
- Both Aya and especially Satsuki are really popular in the school because of this. Many schoolboys envy Manaka's relationship with Satsuki because he can often feel the softness of her boobs.
- Subverted with Nishino. She is popular despite having a normal figure.
- Call-Back: When Tsukasa did a "pull-up" confession similar to the one done by Junpei at the beginning of the story.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Interestingly, not Junpei, who is usually forward about his emotions (when he can work them out). Aya, however, obviously crushes on Junpei from their first meeting, but can't bring herself to say anything.
- Cat Fight: Between Satsuki and Misuzu in chapter 58 of the manga.
- Censor Steam: Often in bath and hot spring scenes to avoid nudity.
- Cerebus Syndrome: Happens in the second half of the story, especially in the last three volumes.
- Character Development: Of the four lead female characters, Tsukasa's personality changes the most: flighty and somewhat hot-tempered during her middle school days, she develops a far more mature attitude soon after entering Oumi Academy.
- Chick Magnet:
- Junpei, naturally, as the main character of this harem manga.
- Ookusa and Amachi have herds of girls flocking to them.
- The Chikan:
- In her second appearance, Kozue is harassed on a bus this way; Junpei intervenes, putting himself between her and the assailant.
- Junpei himself is mistaken for a chikan by Amachi while he and Aya find themselves too close on a bus.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Happens to Ookusa in the second half of the story.
- Class Trip: After the second festival, Junpei's class goes to Kyoto (with Chinami infiltrated) where the boy shares some moments with his three harem members. He is trapped alone in the bath with Satsuki, has an Almost Kiss with Aya, and ends up on a date with Nishino after finding that her class (from another school) is also in Kyoto.
- Cleaning Up Romantic Loose Ends: Initially Junpei tried this with Satsuki by saying he likes Aya more, but failed to convince her to give up. (He still had feelings for her at that point.) In the final part of the story, around the #17 volume, Satsuki tries again to win Junpei's heart but he rejects her again, confessing he is dating Tsukasa already. Moments latter, Aya finally confesses her feelings to Junpei, but since he's dating Tsukasa, he decides to reject it despite loving Aya too. Satsuki accidentally listens to him dumping Aya and gives up too. Kozue, despite not confessing and thus not getting dumped, gives up too after being convinced by her best friend, since Junpei has a girlfriend already.
- "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot:
- Junpei's adventure to return a notebook to Yui's friend who atteneds the All-Girl Oumi Academy. He is accidentally trapped in the school and mistaken for a maniac (thankfully Tsukasa saves him). During the escape, Junpei thinks that he could deliver the notebook to one of the school's guards.
- Junpei questions himself in the last chapters after knowing Aya tried to kiss him while he was sleeping. He starts to think he could have avoided all this suffering if he had realized Aya loved him from the beginning.
- Covers Always Lie:
- The covers and splash pages would like to make you think that Aya, Tsukasa, Yui, and Satsuki are all equally vying for Junpei's heart. However, Satsuki quickly becomes a Hopeless Suitor and Yui is the Not Love Interest, but even after this is apparent all girls often feature equally in images.
- The #13 cover has Yui in the cover, which implies she will have some focus in this issue. This won't happen.
- The #18 cover implies all four girls and Kozue have chances to win Junpei's heart, but Yui and Kozue are out of focus; the former didn't show feelings for him and the latter - despite having a crush on him - decides to give up knowing he has a girlfriend already. Satsuki was rejected by him in the previous volume, and the same happens with Aya (although at that point nothing is settled).
- The last cover shows Aya and Tsukasa with a weeding dress. It can't be helped because the previous volume ended with a massive cliffhanger. But in the very first chapter, Aya fails to kiss Junpei (thanks to Yui), killing her last chance. The final chapters are about Junpei's doubts about his future, thinking about ending his relationship with Tsukasa to pursue his dreams.
- Covert Pervert: Kozue, who possesses a very active imagination.
- Cute Clumsy Girl:
- Aya is a bit clumsy in general, but becomes a walking disaster area when flustered. When told that Tsukasa broke up with Junpei, she went into three consecutive spills.
- Junpei, due to excessive amounts of daydreaming, is a male example.
- Kozue. She appears to be an extreme version of Aya and falls over just as often.
- Declaration of Protection: Junpei says to Satsuki, "I will protect you to the full extent of my abilities!" (meaning against the perverts in the Film Studies Club). She blushes and thinks to herself, "He just said he was going to protect me ... what the hell was he talking about!"
- Demoted to Extra:
- Ookusa. He's a main supporting character while the cast is still in middle school. After they move to high school, he's rarely seen despite being in the same high school as Junpei.
- Yui too. She Lampshades this in an omake chapter.
- Satsuki in the final chapters. After listening to Junpei rejecting Aya, she only had small appearances.
- Derailing Love Interests: Inverted. All Junpei's love interests become better and more attached as time goes on.
- Determinator: This could be said for almost all characters, but some of them fit it better:
- Satsuki is the biggest example. From the beginning, she used all the tools at her disposal to win Junpei's love. Even after Junpei dumps her several times, she returns stronger and more determined to the point of almost raping him. She even steals his first kiss from him. She loses in the end, though.
- Amachi, the most popular guy in the school, is very determined to make Aya fall for him. With his last chance, he even tried to kiss her, but was rejected.
- Distant Finale: Takes place about three years after the bulk of the series.
- Dude, He's Like, in a Coma!: Aya tried to kiss Junpei while he was sleeping and dreaming about Tsukasa.
- Dude Magnet:
- Tsukasa was already the most popular girl in middle school with Okusa and Koyama attracted to her. When she moves on to an all-girls high school, she gains a fanclub of boys that follow her. Even Higure has fallen for her, but he understands that she would rather be with Junpei.
- Aya become this by taking off her glasses and unbraiding her hair. With her new look she attracts the attention of the boys so much that some even come from other classes to see her.
- Satsuki is the Lust Object of the school because she has the most "mature" body, and many boys envy Junpei. She is also the idol of the school rugby players.
- Fanservice: All over the place with Panty Shots, Lingerie Scenes, and partial nudity. It's also lampshaded In-Universe by Misuzu while criticizing Satsuki and the Film Club's previous movie:That swimsuit scene was nothing but fanservice. Don't you know that degrades the quality of the movie?
- Fan Disservice: The owners of a chain of ryokan, all related to each other, tend to place themselves in sexy poses in spite of advanced age, wrinkles, and being almost as ugly as Komiyama
- Fille Fatale: Chinami. She is very used to getting whatever she wants. She initially used Junpei as an excuse for dumping one of her previous "boyfriends" and eventually ended up joining the Film Studies Club. While she does not hold any genuine feelings for Junpei, she is bothered by how unremarkable she is to him.
- First Girl Wins: Subverted! Tsukasa wins... though to be fair, she was the first girl to express interest in Junpei, before the start of manga.
- First Kiss: Junpei receives his first kiss from Satsuki.
- Foil: Surprisingly, Satsuki is one to Aya. She admires how strong Satsuki is and wishes to become stronger like her.
- Foregone Conclusion: By the second chapter in the first volume (or since the very beginning, given the lack of subtlety in concealing her identity), the reader can already tell that Aya is the strawberry-panties girl Junpei had been seeking. Since she usually hides behind her Nerd Glasses and has her hair tied in braids when in public, it takes a while for Junpei to put two and two together.
- French Maid Outfit: With Chinami missing, Misuzu is forced to wear one during the third festival, in order to attract viewers.
- Furo Scene: Naturally, Junpei finds himself thrown into a bath with several of the girls.
- Genki Girl: Satsuki. Athletic and energetic, she loves to be seen with Junpei and is the most confident in her love for him.
- Genre Shift: Starts as a typical harem anime with a good balance of romance, comedy, and ecchi. Ends as a love triangle filled with drama.
- Gonk: Komiyama, whose face most closely resembles an octopus.
- Groin Attack: Satsuki delivers one so hard to Junpei that he goes airborne and falls out an open window. Strangely enough, he acted like nothing had happened in the next panel.
- Harem Anime: One male lead, three primary contenders for his affections, and a couple other brief indications that more are interested in him.
- She's All Grown Up: A rare gender inversion of this. In the Distant Finale, Junpei is one of the last people to show up at the gang's three-year reunion, and he is jacked.
- Hidden Buxom: Aya has a D cup size, but nobody in the school knows this until her makeover (that really only affects her face). Junpei discover this when he is stuck with her and Tsukasa in a closet.
- Hopeless Suitor:
- Satsuki in the second half of the manga. Despite her total devotion and physical, almost forceful, advances, Junpei constantly rejects her.
- Amachi to Aya. He starts to ignore all the other girls in the school for her, but it's useless. He gives up definitively when Aya rejects him after he tried to kiss her.
- Hot Teacher: Kurokawa-sensei, Junpei's busty and beautiful teacher. She's also the advisor to the revived film club, and the object of Sotomura's attentions.
- Idiot Crows: Spotted in the first volume of the manga, after Junpei finds out that, while asleep, he drooled on the paper with Tsukasa's phone number, blurring it away.
- Imagine Spot: Those panty shots aren't just going to happen by themselves, you know.
- A memorable example has Junpei imagining himself hugging and groping both the nerdy-Aya and normal-Aya...in the middle of an exam!
- Informed Deformity: Aya is supposed to be unattractive with her nerdy look, but she's closer to a cute Meganekko.
- Innocent Fanservice Girl: Yui. She's not particularly bothered by her habit of removing her clothes in her sleep. Even while in the same room or bed as Junpei.
- Iron Butt Monkey: No matter what happens to Komiyama, he recovers incredibly fast.
- Jerkass Ball: Junpei had his moments. In the second half of the story, after dumping both Aya and Satsuki and choosing Tsukasa, Junpei really wanted to have something "more special" with Tsukasa, and she quickly called him out for only wanting sex.
- Japanese School Club: Junpei is an aspiring movie director. He tries to join the film club but learns that it's been disbanded. He revives the club thanks to Aya, Satsuki, and his high school friends (Sotomura and Komiyama) joining as members, and makes amateur movies.
- Jerkass Has a Point: In the last chapters, Amachi tells Aya she needs to stop making stories only for Junpei, since he has a girlfriend already. Despite dumping him in the next scene, she thinks he is right.
- Kavorka Man:
- Junpei. He's not ugly, but there's no apparent reason why he should catch the attention of so many beautiful girls. This was Lampshaded by Tsukasa Nishino herself when she was dating Junpei at the start of the manga (she then concluded that her standards wouldn't allow her to fall for a worthless person, so Junpei had to have hidden qualities she had noticed unconsciously. She had actually noticed them consciously well before getting the declaration, but had forgot about him until that fateful day). Having one of the main girls lampshade this in Junpei's face becomes a Running Gag, with a particularly funny occasion having Tsukasa and Satsuki describe the boy they like as a Kavorka Man only to realize they're both describing Junpei and start glaring at each other, with Aya silently joining the lampshading when she tries to console Junpei with a sad smile. Still, Tsukasa is the one who does this most often.
- Komiyama later joins the club when Chinami Hashimoto genuinely falls for him, and gets immediately lampshaded when the entire Film Studies Club plus Kozue and Amachi find out and nearly have a heart attack. She later dumps him... Except the Distant Finale implies they got back together, in secret, to prevent a scandal from ruining her idol career.
- Knight in Shining Armor: Amachi seems to have a compulsive need to help women in need. Kozue comments that he seems like a knight.
- Lady Drunk: Kurokawa-sensei is a frequent drinker.
- Likes Older Women: Sotomura. For all that he obsesses over taking pictures of cute girls for his webpage, he's actually interested in his teacher, Kurokawa-sensei.
- Male Gaze: And the author is a woman!.
- Marilyn Maneuver: Several times to Aya and Tsukasa, especially the first to show her strawberry panties. Happens to Satsuki in the anime when Junpei meets her for the first time.
- Marshmallow Hell: Junpei is subjected to / blessed with this at regular intervals with one or multiple girls. Satsuki is the biggest offender. Lampshaded by Sotomura after Junpei is almost suffocated:Satsuki's breast is a lethal weapon.
- Measuring Day: Treated as Serious Business at the all-girls' academy attended by Yui and Tsukasa. And guess who's there to accidentally witness it?
- Moment Killer: In the last chapters, Aya is about to kiss Junpei (who's sleeping)... until Yui comes and ruins it.
- Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls: Aya. She is secretly writing a fantasy novel in her math notebook but lacks the confidence to show it to anyone. Junpei discovers the novel and encourages her to become a writer by sharing his dream of becoming a filmmaker, which he is also afraid to tell anyone.

- Satsuki. She is the most buxom girl in the series (officially she is a DDD-cup) and has no problem showing her body to Junpei. No surprise that she's very popular among the boys in the school.
- Aya to a lesser extent. She is the second-most buxom girl in the series, after Satsuki, and a source of many Panty Shots. The sight of her strawberry panties is what kicks off the story.
- Nice Guy:
- Aya is probably the kindest character of the series. It's extremely rare to see her angry.
- Junpei is one of the nicest guys in the series, often helping people even to his own detriment. That's also why Nishino fell for him.
- Higure. He is a genuinely nice guy, once going to great lengths to help Junpei in a minor situation even before they got to know each other.
- Nosebleed: Happens on multiple occasions to Junpei and more often to Komiyama. Once also happens to Amachi when he sees Aya in a swimsuit.
- The Not-Love Interest:
- Though considered one of the four main heroines in the series, Yui is never considered a love interest, nor does she ever show Junpei any affection outside of their sibling-type relationship, although she acts at times like an overprotective big sister.
- Misuzu Sotomura. She shares Junpei's interest in movies and gets some Ship Tease with him, with her brother noticing that she acts differently around him, but she has no romantic interest in him and is the one who gets a boyfriend before the Distant Finale.
- Omake: The manga has thirteen omakes and the final OVA episode is an expansion of one of the manga omakes.
- Otaku:
- Junpei's obsession with moviemaking often comes off like this, to the extent that he becomes pretty much the last boy in class to even notice the opposite sex.

- Panty Fighter: Apparently where Satsuki draws her fighting style inspiration from.
- Please Put Some Clothes On: Junpei's reaction every time that he finds a naked Yui sleeping in his bed. Sometimes also with Satsuki when her adavances are too aggressive.
- Porn Stash:
- Later in the manga, Tsukasa visits Junpei's house and sleeps in his bed for the night and finds Junpei's porn stash under his bed. Junpei is tremendously embarrased but soon becomes furious when she tells him that she moved it for "Safer Keeping."
- Aya finds it at one point and accidentally ruins one of the magazines. Junpei claims that it isn't actually his, because he doesn't want to look like a pervert. Aya, in response, is almost too nonchalant about it - she knows from her brother that boys "just have magazines like that"... and buys Junpei a replacement for the one she ruined.
- Proud Beauty: Satsuki is very proud about being a sexy teenager, especially when she is compared to Kurokawa-sensei.
- Romantic False Lead: Kozue, introduced in the second half and the last girl that falls in love with Junpei. Readers comment that she seems nearly a Filler character in the story.
- School Festival: Junpei's Film Club makes his movies for the Festival using the girls to lure viewers and win the money prize.
- Sex Sells: To raise money for an old movie theater, the boys dress up as Santa and hold a bake sale. But when the girls dress up as Santa's helpers, it works much better.
- Sexy Soaked Shirt:
- In general, girls's shirts and blouses regularly get wet and see-through, either as a result of falling into oceans, fountains, and pools or having drinks spilled on them.
- On one occasion, the pervy gym teacher forces his students (Aya included) to continue their training in a light rain to have effect on their gym uniforms and make their bras visible. Amachi doesn't take it well.
- Shameless Fanservice Girl: Satsuki. She has no problem being seen semi- or completly naked by Junpei, provoking him on many occasions. The peak is during the trip to Kyoto: Junpei ends up trapped in the women's bath alone with Satsuki, completly naked, that wants to have sex with him. "Fortunately" she slips (hitting her head) and faints.
- Sitting on the Roof: The story starts with Aya sitting on the roof and failing, showing her strawberry panties to Junpei.
- Shrinking Violet:
- Aya; it's the reason for her nerdy look early on.
- Kozue is a extreme case; before meeting Junpei, she is very afraid of boys.
- Skinship Grope: A drunk Kurokawa does this once to Satsuki and almost does it to Aya.
- So Beautiful, It's a Curse:
- Aya Toujou becomes beautiful by taking off her glasses and unbraiding her hair. But she attracts the attention of the boys so much that some even come from other classes to see her, and she's almost harassed by the gym teacher.
- Not so much in the school, but Satsuki, in her work place, is molested by a co-worker until Junpei, hired for a brief period, snaps.
- Spoiler Cover: The last volume cover makes clear Satsuki is out of the running for Junpei's heart.
- Status Quo Is God: You'll think the character relations have changed over the course of, say 40 chapters. Then, bam, the comic ends up right back where it started, ready for round two.
- Strawberry Shorthand: The story starts when Junpei tries to find the girl with strawberry panties.
- Suggestive Collision: Junpei often with every girl. The best example is his first meeting with Kozue. She not only falls on top of Junpei but she gives him quite an eyeful (of her panties) in the process before screaming and running away.
- Super-Deformed: A few omake use the super deformed style.
- Take a Third Option:
- Subverted with Junpei in the penultimate chapter. He was very sad to see Aya and Tsukasa pursuing their dreams while he did't know what to do. He almost dumped Tsukasa to walk alone and pursue his dream, but in the end they ended up together while successfully making his dream come true.
- Played straight with Aya. She gives up on Junpei after being dumped and dumps Amachi as well. She stayed single and became a very successful writer (although it's implied she still has feelings for Junpei).
- Teen Genius: Despite his perversions, Sotomura is the top student in school, with grades even better than those of Aya.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Misuzu is quite good at delivering them, leaving the school's banchou in tears and even warning Junpei that "My words are like stones! They can kill!".
- Theme Naming: The family names of the girls each contain the kanji for a cardinal directionnote , while Junpei's last name has the kanji for "middle".
- Third-Person Person: Yui and Chinami.
- Those Two Guys:
- Komiyama and Ookusa, at the start of the series. After the cast moves into high school, Ookusa more or less disappears (although he is in the same high school as Junpei) and is replaced by Sotomura.
- Migishima and Satake, two boys in Junpei's cram school class.
- Token Mini-Moe: Yui, who also has the smallest chest in the show.
- Tsundere: Misuzu is a non-romantic example. She tends to play down Junpei's role in the club, but later admits (to herself) that Junpei's accomplishment in building the club from scratch is truly remarkable, whereas she is just "all talk".
- Twice Shy: The whole reason why Junpei and Aya DON'T end up together.
- Unlucky Childhood Friend: Averted — Yui never displays any serious romantic interest in Junpei.

- Art Evolution: Mizuki Kawashita's art improved considerably after the ending of original manga.
- Call-Back:
- Nakama meets Aya Toujou in the same way as Junpei Manaka: Aya fell from a high place, accidentally showing her strawberry panties to him.
- Like in the beginning of Strawberry 100%, Aya hides her beauty. This time, however, it's to hide her identity since she is a famous writer already.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Nakama fell in love immediately with Aya but struggles to confess his feelings. Although he confessed he loved her at the end of story, he moved on because he thought he is just a "replacement love" to Junpei.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Yui, Kozue, and her friends and Ookusa are completely absent in this side story.
- Heroic BSoD: Played with. While it's clear Aya is suffering one for being dumped by Junpei, she is trying to overcome her feelings but without success. As a result, she is struggling to write good stories.
- Hype Backlash: A In-Universe example happens with Aya. After her initial success as a young writer, she is having a lot of trouble writing good stories after being dumped by Junpei. As a result, she got a lot of criticism on the internet.
- The Ghost: Junpei and Chinami are mentioned but never appear.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: Aya and Junpei don't end up together at the end of the original series. This sequel is all about Aya getting over that ending.
- Love Hurts: Aya didn't overcome her feelings for Junpei. This is clear when she realized Nakama is very similar to Junpei and started to avoid him after coming to this conclusion.
