Mido Kenshiro is a high-schooler with a vested interest in makeup that he wants to keep a secret at all costs. One day, Mido asks his childhood friend, Hiura Mihate, to practice on him, with the end result of making Hiura look absolutely gorgeous. This awakens something in Hiura, who dresses like a girl more often, becomes popular in his school, and gains some confidence. How will Mido and Hiura navigate their new situation, which has transformed as much as Hiura has?

I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl (Koisuru (Otome) no Tsukurikata) is an Otokonoko manga by Azusa Banjo. It was originally released on December 2019 on Azusa's Twitter account, before being picked up for serialization in Comic Pool on February 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment picked up the manga for an international release, and the first translated volume came out on May 2022.

I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl provides examples of:

  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Practically everyone agrees that Hiura is beautiful when he looks like a girl.
  • Beach Episode: Episodes 24-25 see the photography club head to the beach for a photoshoot. The conflict of the arc is about Hiura stressing over what kind of swimsuit to wear.
  • Childhood Friends: Mido and Hiura have known each other since they were kids.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Hiura is very much in love with Mido. He hopes that by cross-dressing, Mido will notice him more.
  • Costume-Test Montage: There is a brief montage of outfits Hiura tries out when they go to the mall in Episode 5.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Yoimachi Hatori is the first one in class to tell Hiura he's cute in Episode 1, but it isn't until Episode 7 that she's formally introduced.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: Hiura wore glasses as a boy. They're gone after he begins dressing like a girl.
  • Hand Wave: After Hiura mentions his discomfort with wearing the summer school uniform, Mido mentions that it's not too different from the outfit Hiura wore during the mall trip in the first volume. Hiura counters that he wasn't thinking straight then.
  • I Have Brothers: Mido's interest in cosmetics came from his three older sisters.
  • Japanese School Club: Mido and Hiura join the photography club as trial members in vol. 2. Mido also mentions helping the light music club.
  • Modesty Shorts: As part of Hiura's summer uniform, Mido suggests wearing shorts underneath, so that Hiura will feel less awkward wearing it.
  • One Head Taller: Mido (185 cm) towers over Hiura (155 cm) and is the more masculine of the two.
  • Perspective Flip: An extra chapter in vol. 1 retells the beginning of the manga from Hiura's perspective, showing that he's playing it by ear as much as Mido is.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Mido is tall and popular with girls, plays sports, and is really into makeup.
  • Romantic Wingman: Mido's sisters all help Hiura in courting Mido.
  • Second Year Protagonist: Mido and Hirua are both second-years, giving them the full range of classmates, seniors, and juniors to interact with.
  • Secret-Keeper: Yoimachi and Gin figure out Mido is the one handles Hiura's makeup in Episode 18, but they promise to keep it to themselves.
  • Shrinking Violet: Hiura is very introverted. While he can handle small groups, he gets flustered when larger crowds focus on him.
  • The Social Expert: Yoimachi is really good at reading other people. Other students in the school usually go to her for relationship advice.
  • Sweet Tooth: Hiura is drawn to sweet food, especially if it has apples.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Hiura jumps headlong into wearing girls' clothes after becoming Mido's makeup model.
