Chidori and Nanoha
The series follows Chidori and Nonoha, two best friends going to an all-girls high school, but the two friends have a secret they don't want anyone else to know...they are actually dating each other. Hana ni Arashi (Flowers in a Storm) is a Yuri romance/Slice of Life series by Luka Kovachi that ran from 2017 to 2023 on Shogakukan's online platform Sunday Webry.
Not to be confused with the shoujo romantic comedy series under the same name by Shigeyoshi Takagi.
The series has been licensed
by Viz Media under the name Rainbows After Storms.
Tropes:
- Almost Kiss: Hilariously after their first kiss, Nanoha is so flustered from the suddenness of it that she begs Chidori for one more, and it is as the two lean in for a second kiss that they get the stereotypical interruption by a passing teacher.
- Blank White Eyes: Happens frequently whenever the two girls realize they may have let slip their secret.
- Coordinated Clothes: Chidori and Nonoha both wear a matching pair of bracelets, though Chidori wears hers as an anklet. It's usually pretty rare for either girl to ever take them off. The cap of their anniversary date being plagued with bad luck is Chidori losing her bracelet.
- Crush Blush: Chidori and Nonoha constantly cause each other to blush furiously whenever they try to be intimate.
- Gayngst: In a small focus chapter it's revealed that Igarashi-sempai, Chidori's first love, suffered from this, as her feelings and Chidori's obvious affection caused her to fear she was leaving the "norm" and she ended up pushing Chidori away, which is something she is shown to heavily regret.
- Once per Episode: Almost every chapter will remind the reader that Chidori and Nanoha are A) in a relationship and B) that it's a Secret Relationship.
- Secret Relationship: Both girls try to keep their relationship a secret, ironically despite being pretty bad at hiding it, only a couple of people have been shown to have figured it out. Its not until chapter 120 we see why the two are so adamant to keep their relationship secret, turns out its not for fear of rejection or homophobia but because they fear their friends would be way too into their relationship and never shut up about it.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Nanoha's sister, Kaede, realizes after just one run-in meeting with Chidori that the two are dating. In the second meeting, seeing how the two act around their friends, Kaede also realizes it's a secret. At this point she then begins to mess with the two for fun.
