The Different Bonds of Love note

"And so, starting that day, the two of us, Hayafuji Kasane, and Aoyama Meguru, began our new life together as contract sisters."
Hayafuji Kasane

Contract Sisters' (ケイヤクシマイ, Keiyaku Shimai) is a Yuri manga by HIJIKI that began serialization in monthly magazine Comic Cune in 2022 and is currently ongoing.

On the surface, Hayafuji Kasane is a aloof and beautiful Office Lady. In reality, she is a Closet Otaku who hates her job. Kasane finds herself drawn to Aoyama Meguru, a high schooler who works in a family restaurant. Through a series of mishaps, Kasane and Meguru sign a contract and move in together, becoming “Contract Sisters”. The first chapter has been adapted to a voice comic by Kadokawa, which can be viewed here.

Contract Sisters provides examples of:

  • Bifauxnen: Kasane’s friend from high school, Mii-chan has become one in the present.
  • Beneath the Mask: Under her cool and formal exterior, Kasane is a bumbling and slightly awkward otaku.
  • Cool Big Sis: This is what the “Sisterhood Contract” makes Kasane to Meguru, even if Kasane’s feelings secretly aren’t sisterly. Meguru’s real elder sister is/was one to Meguru as well.
  • Closet Otaku: In the first chapter, Kasane is depressed that her favorite Idol Singer graduated and that a Yuri manga she liked was cancelled.
  • Last-Name Basis: Kasane refers to Meguru as Aoyama-san until she is told not to.
  • Minor Living Alone: Meguru lives alone, due to her relative being the landlord, until Kasane moves in with her.
  • Office Lady: This is Kasane’s job and source of income.
  • Pretty Freeloaders: Kasane is the one who ends up moving into Meguru’s home.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: Kasane’s job leaves her tired and depressed every day.
  • You Remind Me of X: Kasane reminds Meguru of her real elder sister, even before the two meet.
