You know this person. We all do. Ohhh yes. Even though you haven't even watched the show, even if you have no idea which video game they're from, you know them and have every one of their lines memorized. Their every word has a place in lulzy eternity.

This person — nay, this deity of popular culture, can come in many forms, but regardless of form, They are known as a Fountain Of Memes.

Be it due to Narm Charm, Large Ham-ness, or simply due to their own glorious badassery, every line this sacred being spouts is an instant Memetic Mutation, to be repeated by the Internet-savvy throughout the ages.

When in doubt about examples, keep in mind the Rule of Three. There's no specific cutoff point for awesomeness, but three Memetic Mutations is generally a good baseline. It is also recommended, though not required, that you give us a sample of the character's works, so we too may revel in their awesomeness.

The name is a pun on the Fountain of Dreams from the Kirby series.

  • I'm the Goddamn Batman and I can breathe in space. Oh, and my parents are DEEAAAAAAD!!! Not to mention "I'm Batman!", though that was mainly from the first film.
    • His sidekick Robin was also known for saying, "Holy [relevant pun]" but that was more due to the TV series from the '60s.
  • The Doomguy from Doom. The entirety of the comic is memetically quotable, his inner and outer monologues making up the whole text. Who's a man and a half!?!
    "Who's the man? I'm the man! I'm a bad man! How bad? Real bad! I'm 12.0 on a 10.0 scale of badness!"
    "Yeah, that's your spinal cord, baby! DIG IT!"
    "Rip and tear! Rip and tear your guts! You are HUGE! That means you have huge guts! RIP AND TEAR!"
    "Ahh! Chainsaw! The great communicator!"
    "Now I'm radioactive! That can't be good!"
  • Then there's me, Deadpool, naturally. There's just too much to list here. Also of note is my inclusion in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. See this section on that page's YMMV tab? Approximately 75% of those phrases were uttered during the first peek at the game.
  • Furmanisms. Can they do no less?
  • Superman, although much of his memetic things began in other media, he originated in the comics. In any case, there's an entire lexicon of taglines and catch-phrases from and about him, as well as imitative behavior.
    • Catchphrases and taglines:
      • "Look, up in the sky!"
      • "It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!"
      • "Up, up, and away!"
      • "This looks like a job for Superman!"
      • "You will believe a man can fly!"
      • His boss Perry White's catchphrases "Great Caesar's Ghost!" and "Don't call me Chief!" also caught on in the '50s.
    • Imitative behavior
      • To this day, kids drape capes (or bathroom towels) on their backs and run around pretending to fly.
      • Removing your glasses and/or running out of a room unbuttoning your shirt sometimes mirror his transformation from Clark to Superman.
      • Winking at an audience after pulling a fast-one on your co-workers mirrors the end of many early installments.
      • Not quite imitative behavior, but the idea of the character changing in a phone booth, which only occurred a handful of times in story, and almost never in the actual comics, caught on to the point where it was lampooned in 1978's Superman with Clark running past a payphone and looking at it funny.
  • Spider-Man is another classic example of a character with scads of catchphrases and trademarks.
    • A common meme centers around taking screencaps from the 1960's Spider-Man cartoon show and recaptioning them, often with profanity and/or sexually suggestive materials.

      • "My spider-sense is tingling!"
      • "With great power comes great responsibility!"
    • Trademark behavior
      • Spinning webs, often to swing on.
      • Climbing walls (which you can imitate by crawling on the floor, I guess).
      • Not to mention, he often appropriates Superman's shirt-rip, as do most superheroes.

  • The incomparable Enoby Draknes Dimenta Rave Way (Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way), "goff" protagonist of My Immortal.

    Film — Animated 
  • Shrek: Not even the titular character itself, practically anything said by any character throughout the series has become insanely quotable, with the first movie being the most notorious.
  • Treasure Island (1988): The movie's version of Dr. Livesey became a major source of internet memes in post-Soviet countries, thanks to his boisterous and optimistic personality, characteristic laugh and fighting skills. In mid-2022, memes revolving around the character spread globally, with an edited video of Livesey, Jim and Trelawny walking set to the song "Why Not?" in particular becoming a major source of memes on its own.
  • Turning Red:
    • Everything Mei does (especially in her red panda form) has spawned a meme in one way or another.
    • Practically everything Abby says has become a meme.
  • Khalil from Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie seems to have become this. To name a few memes centered on him:
    • Replacing the line "You are a skilled metal worker" in his introduction scene with audio from another source.
    • "[THING] runs very deep in my family!" Explanation
    • "...but in the proccess will break the heart of the woman you love!" (Khalil fake cries) Explanation
    • "You are pathetic." Explanation
    • "And when you told them what they were doing wrong, they said they were so-AAAAH!" Explanation
  • The Incredibles: Mr. Incredible has a lot of quotes that became famous on the internet, whether they range from being relatable to just being funny.

    Film — Live-Action 
  • Samuel L. Jackson. If he's in it, he'll not only create a few memes, but also a Memetic Badass in the process.
    • That certain scene in Pulp Fiction is a meme from start to finish. Starting from about 4:30, there are five memesnote  in 58 seconds.
    • The Incredibles:
      • He also needs to know where his super suit is, because he needs it for the greater good!
      • GREATER GOOD? HIS WIFE WAS THE GREATEST GOOD HE WAS EVER GONNA GET!
    • And he has had it with these memetic snakes on this memetic plane (Snakes on a Plane).
    • He recognizes the Council has made a decision. But given that it's a stupid-ass decision he's elected to ignore it (The Avengers (2012)).
    • And he will not grant Anakin the rank of master, even though he is on the council (Star Wars).
  • 300: Leonidas' "THIS! IS! SPARTAAAA!" and "Tonight we dine in HELL!", the former being a former Trope Namer.
  • Scarface, aka Tony Montana: "Say Hello to my little friend!"
  • Dr. Evil of Austin Powers could buy this trope if he had *pinky raise*... one miiiillion dollars!
    • Seriously, someone throw him a frickn' bone here!
    • And if you are going to argue with him, he'll 'shh' you or tell you to zip it.
  • Bruce Campbell has spawned more than a few. Notably, "This Is My Boomstick!" from Army of Darkness is a classic meme of geekdom.
  • Humphrey Bogart, especially in Casablanca. Indeed, lines like "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine." and "Here's lookin' at you kid." are so iconic most people who've heard of them have no idea of any context.
  • Tropic Thunder: Kirk Lazarus, LEAD FARMER, MOTHERFUCKER! (Never go full retard.)
    • Les Grossman who asks you to take a step back, and literally fuck your own face, or he'll fuck you up!
    • You know why? Because a nutless monkey could do your job.
  • R. Lee Ermey has spawned many, many memes, as various characters and as himself, maggot!
  • Mel Brooks has made a career out of memes, with nearly all of his films containing at least a handful.
  • Jim Carrey is another who has made a career full of memes.
  • Drax the Destroyer from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014):
    • Memes don’t go over his head. His reflexes are too fast; he would catch it.
    • Finger to the throat means death!
    • He, too, is extraordinarily humble.
    • Where is his best meme?
      • I’ll do you one better: What is his best meme?
      • I’ll do YOU one better: WHY is his best meme?
    • Die, meme of death!
    • Of course none of this matters. You can’t see any of these words. Drax’s entry is so still, it’s invisible.
      • Hi, Drax!
      • ...Damn it.
  • Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame (as well as any of his scenes from prior MCU films), literally every single line and scene of his from his initial appearance in the first trailer for the movie have become a meme, including those not even in the final film. It has gotten to a point where it might be hard to take him seriously watching the film now despite the character being a dreaded Knight of Cerebus and Hero Killer in-universe.
    • For perspective, the "Thanos did nothing wrong" subreddit is the second largest MCU sub reddit even after banning half it's users. While it now hosts other Marvel memes, it's userbase is still coming up with Thanos based meme templates and there is now a project to make every single one of Thanos's lines into a meme template.
  • The Joker in The Dark Knight, as played by Heath Ledger, to the point that every line he says in that film is a meme. Heath Ledger's script in that movie was one big meme. Considering that the Nolan-verse Joker has been theorized to be a personification of lulz itself, this may not be so surprising.
  • The Dark Knight Rises: Bane's managed to follow in the Joker's footsteps and spawn a bunch of memes.
    • The scene with Bane and Aiden Gillen's CIA agent is notable in that every single line of dialogue is memetic. It spawned the entire Baneposting subculture.
  • Batman (1989): Jack Nicholson's Joker was even more quoted, even a Trope Namer (Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?). This town needs an enema.
  • Mae "Is that a pistol in your pocket Or Are You Just Happy to See Me??" West, both as a character and as herself.
  • Inigo Montoya from the The Princess Bride is so meme-worthy that he named five different tropes (and a half).
  • ALL of Star Wars, especially the prequels. There's even an entire subreddit dedicated to prequel memes. The biggest providers being Emperor Palpatine (who is in a category of his own called Sheevposting), Anakin and Obi-Wan.

    • "I have the high ground!"
      • "You underestimate my power!"
    • "I don't like sand. It's course, it's rough, it's irritating, and it gets everywhere."
    • "Hello there"
    • "General Kenobi! You are a bold one!"
    • "Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise?"
    • "[X] will make a fine addition to my collection"
    • "It's treason then."
    • "He was a good friend..."
    • You know Star Wars has reached this status when the fact that almost every line in the prequels seems to be a meme is, in and of itself, a meme.

  • The So Bad, It's Good Kung Pow! Enter the Fist is remembered largely because it's almost never ending fountain of quotable lines.
  • Street Fighter: For you, the day Bison graced TV Tropes with his presence was the most important day of your life... But for Me, It Was Tuesday.
  • Agent Sands from Once Upon a Time in Mexico. In fact, it'd probably be quicker to list the Johnny Depp roles that aren't one of these.
  • BRIAN BLESSED can create memes FROM HIS SHEER PRESENCE!
  • Christopher Walken: uh-Christopher. uh-Walken. He's un-FUCKING-believable!
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger. 160 Greatest Quotes.
  • Transformers (2007): Bonecrusher hates that he wasn't on this list.
    • Bonecrusher also hates that he was added to this list.
  • Nicolas Cage has been the source of many memes in his film appearances, such as The Wicker Man (2006) remake, The Family Man, and many others.
  • Derek Zoolander, male model who's really really ridiculously good-looking.
  • Dory from Finding Nemo. Just keep swimming.
  • Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games has spawned at least three different memes for whatever reason, the most popular being Advice Peeta.
  • To quote Blain from Film/Predator: "I ain't got time to bleed."
  • Mean Girls has spawned a ton of these:
    • "On Wednesdays we wear pink!"
    • "Get in, loser, we're going shopping"
    • "The limit does not exist!"
    • "She doesn't even go here!"
  • The Dude, from The Big Lebowski, to the point where an entire religion/philosophy (Dude-ism) has been spawned.
  • O hai, TV Tropes! Everybody remembers Johnny from The Room (2003), huh?
    • Chris-R doesn't have five fucking minutes.
  • To a very subtle extent, Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver in the 1950 version of Treasure Island. Arr!
  • There Will Be Blood: "I drink your milkshake!"
  • Monty Python's films have been mined down to memetic quotes, to the point where many people who've never seen them can cite chapter and verse from films they've never even seen. Their memetic status has, in fact, reached memetic status.
  • The Emperor's New Groove: Um, EVERYONE?! Although Kuzco, Ymza and Kronk deliver the most.
  • Tombstone: Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday.
    • I’m your huckleberry.
    • You’re a daisy if you do!
    • I have two Guns, one for each of you!
    • Nonsense. I have not yet begun to defile myself.
    • Not me. I’m in my prime!
    • You are an oak.
  • Maui and Tamatoa from Moana, whose songs have been subject to many Internet remixes. Also, it's pretty common for people to mention the former when discussing Dwayne Johnson.
  • Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, thanks in part to his Bragging Theme Tune.
  • OSS 117: the version of Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath played by Jean Dujardin generates about half of the memes produced by the French-speaking internet community.
  • The main characters in Step Brothers.
    • "Did we just become best friends?" "Yup!"
    • "We're here to fuck shit up."
  • The Elite Squad was this in Brazil, and probably just one ("Not in the Face!, to not ruin the wake!") wasn't spewed by Memetic Badass Captain Nascimento, such as "PEDE PRA SAIR!" ("SAY UNCLE!"), "O senhor é um fanfarrão!" ("You sir, are a buffon!"), and "Tira essa roupa preta, que você não merece usar! Você não é caveira, você é muleque!" ("Take off the black suit, you're not worth it! You're not a skull, you're a brat!" - usually reduced to the opening and the ending).
  • Miss Trunchbull from Matilda.
    • "Much too good for children!"
    • "They're all mistakes, children. Filthy, nasty things. Glad I never was one!"
    • "The apple never rots far from the tree!"
    • "Your mommy, IS A TWIT!"
    • "In this classroom, in this school... I AM GOD!!"
    • "INTO THE CHOKEY!"
  • Spider-Man 3 has Peter under the influence of the symbiote's corruption, known as "Emo Peter" or "Bully Maguire." His large number of memorable lines, many of which are highly cringeworthy(espcially the infamous dance scene), has resulted in a large number of memes, especially him being edited into other scenes of the Spider-Man Trilogy or other films.
  • As Mike Nelson knows, everything Dalton says in Road House (1989) is both quotable and hilarious.
    Dalton: Pain don't hurt.

    Live-Action TV 

    Music 
  • Lady Gaga. Has she had a single that wasn't subject to rampant acapella covers / font-related parodies / math jokes?
  • Beyoncé. Anything she does is subject to tributes, covers, parodies, etc.
    • The Single Ladies Dance. (All the single ladies? All the single ladies!)
    • The lyrics on Lemonade take on a life of their own and are repeated constant. "Boy, bye!" and "Becky with the good hair" are the two biggest examples.
  • David Bowie. The Area, anyone? (Labyrinth) When he's not trying to take over the world, that is (The Venture Brothers). Maybe it's just that sexy central London accent.
    • His Iconic Outfit (really makeup) on the Aladdin Sane cover also counts; that lightning bolt is still his single most-referenced "look" in pop culture.
  • Jessica Simpson: Most famously, "Is this chicken or fish?"
  • Yo, Taylor Swift, I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Kanye West had the best memes of all time!
  • Freddie Mercury. From his iconic mustache to the now-famous rage meme to the many, many memetic songs he made, everything about him just screams Memetic Badass. Because after all, he didn't die of AIDS, pure epic power simply overwhelmed his body and he ascended back to the higher plane of existence from whence he came.
  • "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches. Basically every line in this one song is a meme.
  • Michael Jackson. "Woo!", "HEE-hee-hee!", "Shimonuh!"
    • The "Thriller" zombie dance.
    • His choreographed crotch-grabbing.
    • The documentary Living with Michael Jackson had him occasionally using the words "ignorance" and "ignorant" with regards to what other people thought of his bizarre lifestyle, resulting in "That's/You're ignorant!" effectively being his catchphrase in the South Park episode "The Jeffersons".
  • Rebecca Black gained fame for her single "Friday" in 2011.
  • It only took Psy one video ("Gangnam Style") to become this.
  • Drake. He was the subject of three different memes in 2015. First when Madonna kissed him, then with the album artwork for "If You're Reading This It's Too Late," and then his single Hotline Bling. The parodies and video edits were enough to fuel tumblr and reddit for months at a time.

    Politics 
Politicans with "colorful" personalities, tendencies to use malapropisms, and cases of foot-in-mouth syndrome are often meme fountains.
  • Joe Biden—formerly Vice President, now President of the United States—whose name has frequently been linked with the description "gaffe-prone." Possibly the only man to call something "a bunch of malarkey" on national television in decades.
    • A non-gaffe example would be his coining of the phrase "noun, verb, 9/11," during a moment of snark at Rudy Giuliani.
  • George W. Bush, what with his famous "Bushisms" and his unusual friendliness toward foreign leaders ("looking into Vladimir Putin's soul" at his Texas ranch and giving Angela Merkel a shoulder massage at a NATO summit, for instance).
  • Before Dubya, there was Dan Quayle. Best known for "correcting" a student's already-correct spelling of the word "potato" by suggesting he add the letter E on the end.
    • Once, he said that Republicans like him, "understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child."
    • Then there was, "what a waste it is to loose one's mind or not to have a mind is being very wasteful."
    • Oh, and for context, he said this in 1988: "Millions of innocent people lost their lives because of the bigotry and Hitlerism that permeated Germany and other parts of the world. It was an obscene period in our nation's history... no, not our nation's... but in World War II. I mean, we, we all lived in this century—I didn't live in this century—but in this century's history... it is a point of history that this nation—our nation—understands. We did not have, matter of fact, we fought Hitlerism."
    • There was also his moment in the 1988 Vice presidential debate where he compared himself to John F. Kennedy:
      Dan Quayle: Three times that I've had this question — and I will try to answer it again for you, as clearly as I can, because the question you're asking is, "What kind of qualifications does Dan Quayle have to be president," "What kind of qualifications do I have," and "What would I do in this kind of a situation?" And what would I do in this situation? [...] I have far more experience than many others that sought the office of vice president of this country. I have as much experience in the Congress as Jack Kennedy did when he sought the presidency. I will be prepared to deal with the people in the Bush administration, if that unfortunate event would ever occur.
      Lloyd Bentsen: Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.
  • Silvio Berlusconi, whose insensitivity, corruption, love of orgies, and persistence in the pursuit of power are the source of incessant joking in Italy and abroad.
  • Mexico itself is a Fountain of Memes, as admitted by many Mexicans who point out that their country is the only one that is crazy enough to make memes in the face of a tragedy,Translation but former president Enrique Peña Nieto just took the cake as a walking meme. The mockery at his expense started even before he took office back when he was still candidate and the ball ran for his full administration. Jewels like "I'm not the housewife"Explanation, "Peña Nieto bookstore"Explanation, "What would you have done?"Explanation, "Saving Mexico"Explanation, "one; no, less; like five"Explanation, "good things usually don't count, but they count a lot"Explanation, "ya chole"Explanation, his horrible English and many many more.
  • Hugo Chavez. Of course, the man had the habit of making long televised speeches to the nation at a whim, on top of his weekly six-hour talk show.
  • First Polish post-communist president, Lech Wałęsa, is so known for this in Poland that Walesisms have their own page on The Other Wiki. He's for, and even against, and he'll answer you in deceptive straightforward way. He can invite Mr Lech Kaczyński with his wife or Mr Jarosław Kaczyński with his husband. He doesn't want, but he must. He made a 360 degrees turn. There are positive and negative pluses.
  • In The '60s and The '70s, William Safire—later known as the resident language policeman at The New York Times—was a speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew (among others), and penned some of the most famous political memes of the era (e.g. "nattering nabobs of negativism" for Nixon's opponents).
  • Unsurprisingly, Canadian Prime Minister and Bunny-Ears Lawyer-in-Chief Pierre Trudeau generated innumerable memes in his day, from "Just watch me" to pirouetting behind the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
  • One of the most famous political memes (and one of the most famous memes period in the pre-Internet age) came from a debate between Democratic Presidential hopefuls Walter Mondale and Gary Hart in the early 80s (when they were vying to ultimately go against Reagan in the general elections) where Mondale accused Hart of being empty on substance by asking "where's the beef?" The phrase was co-opted from a popular Wendy's advertising campaign of the time, but Mondale's use is still widely recognized as the Trope Codifier.
  • As far as bizarre quotations go, Boyle Roche was easily the 18th-century's George W. Bush. With quotes like "Half the lies our opponents tell us are not true" and "I told you to make one longer than the other, and instead you made one shorter than the other," he soon became more widely known for quotes like these than any of his political work—he was responsible for the term "Irish bull" to refer to such a quote, as he was a member of Ireland's parliament when most of his famous quotes happened.
  • Anything said by Sarah Palin and Donald Trump.
  • Vladimir Putin.
    • The glorious leader of Mother Russia. He rides horses, dolphins, your mother and even ritz crackers.
    • He attempted to ban memes. It backfired.
  • Ed Balls.
    • Ed Balls.
  • Rodrigo Duterte doesn't like Americans and he HEYTS DRUGS and wants to STAHP IT.
  • Slovak politics:
    • The current (came into office in 2020) prime minister Igor Matovič, who even before becoming the prime minister was infamous for his rather theatrical approach to political activism.
    • Poor senile former president Ivan Gašparovič and his legendary (mis)quotes.
    • Speaker of the National Council Andrej Danko, a worthy Spiritual Successor to Gašparovič, who was less senile, but just as quotable, and more corrupt. (Sadly, as of 2020, his party was voted out of parliament and for now it seems his political career is over.)

    Professional Wrestling 
  • Former professional wrestler Batista became this in the eyes of Smart Marks following his Badass Decay. Aside from his botching, he had a tendency to stumble over words which led to this status.
  • CM Punk. The sheer amount of memes this man has graced us is amazing.
  • Before CM Punk, there was The Rock:
    • "FINALLY The Rock has come back to [geographic location]!"
    • "Know your role, and shut your mouth!"
    • "I'm gonna slap that sumbitch sideways and stick it right up your candy ass!"
    • If ya SA-MELLLLLLLL...!"
  • AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA
  • Chris Jericho. After all, he's the best in the world at what he does.
  • Booker T graces fans with loads of phrases that are bound to become memetic when he's on the commentary.
  • The Ultimate Warrior. Just about any sentence that comes out of his mouth (provided you can understand it).

    Radio 

    Sports 
  • The great-grandaddy of sports meme generation has to be Yogi Berra, who gave us such gems as "It ain't over until it's over", "Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded", and "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." Also, "It ain't over until the fat lady sings." And, famously, "I never said most of the things I said."
  • Ilya Bryzgalov, formerly of the Philadelphia Flyers seems to be on his way to this after his appearances in NHL 24/7. "The solar system...it's so humongous big" and his meditations on the similarities between his Siberian Husky and a hot blonde in particular are experiencing Memetic Mutation.
    • "Is only a game. Why you heff to be mad?"
  • In the 2014/15 NFL season, Marshawn Lynch answered reporters' questions with the same thing over and over.
  • The World Cup can reach this even for people that don't care about Association Football. At least one meme preceded the internet (1986: Diego Maradona punches the ball into the goal and the referee accepts; Maradona's response was "I made the goal with my head and the hand of God").

    • Captain Falcon from F-Zero says "HYESZ!" to being shown some moves. "FALCAWN PAWNCH!"
    • Perhaps the enigmatic writing style that may have been attributed to the website's translator of the series' official site can also be considered a Fountain of Memes? You have no time to ponder such questions, as Link has just grabbed the meme ball!
    • Solid Snake, of Metal Gear Solid fame has appeared in the series as of Brawl. Since that series is also a Fountain Of Memes... "Mei-Ling! Samus (Metroid) took her clothes off!"
    • Also from Brawl, Ike of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance has gotten this treatment in the English-speaking and Japanese fandom alike; it at times reached Captain Falcon levels. This was only amplified with the reveal of his bulked-up muscular Radiant Dawn design in the fourth game.
    • The fourth game has Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles 1), memetic ever since first uttering the already-memetic "I'm really feeling it!" in his reveal trailer, who is pretty much to Smash 4 as Capt. Falcon is to the first game and Ike is to Brawl. Good luck going on any Shulk-related topic without hearing or seeing "I'm really feeling it!" or "It's Shulk time!" at least once.
    • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has two indirect examples in the game's first two DLC characters: Piranha Plant (Super Mario Bros.) and Joker (Persona 5). The former is memetic because of how utterly unexpected it was and how it's a Mook that got into Smash before Waluigi, Shadow the Hedgehog, Isaac, and other more desired characters, thus forming the "Plant Gang". The latter is memetic due to the amount of memes his own game has combined with him being another Unexpected Character. Joker's meme potential rose when he was officially shown off, with his neutral special, Gun, being memetic almost immediately due to how mundane it sounds in comparison to other special moves. The already infamous "Looking cool, Joker!" being a taunt and Nintendo's servers crashing upon Joker's release only solidified this status.
  • For a game which is about memes, is it any surprise that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty NEEDS SCISSORS. 61!
    • Speaking of Metal Gear, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance introduced a certain Senator Armstrong that instantly became this in spite of only appearing at the end. Nanomachines, son!
    • The Winds of Destruction in general have each gained memetic status, due to being so quotable and their designs. Monsoon would be pleased.
    • Monsoon's own obsession with memes has garnered him this status in his own right, such as "Memes, the DNA of the soul" and "Your memes end here."

  • Star Fox 64: Peppy Hare would like you to Do a Barrel Roll! Additionally, Falco would like to inform you that he's on your side, Einstein! But Wolf can't let them do that.
    • Every single line is a meme, referencing any besides the well known ones can still derail a topic on a forum into a reference battle.
  • Touhou Project is pretty much made of this and Self-Fanservice.
    • Even amongst Touhou characters, Cirno surpasses them all in sheer meme density. She is, after all, the Strongest.
  • Final Fantasy:
    • Final Fantasy V brings us GILGAMESH (the caps are required), who would become the Breakout Character of the series appearing in many games, each time as a Large Ham Blood Knight who promised epic hilarity.

He became so popular that the prequel Dissidia 012 made him even hammier and had other characters mock his Void obsession.

Variations of Jack saying Chaos are especially popular for meme creation, and many fans proclaim him to be the most "based" Final Fantasy protagonist. The reveal that Jack is Garland (memetically known for knocking you all down) furthers this, as the same character has been making new memes decades after his original appearance.

    • Fire Emblem Fates also brought us Takumi, whom we have to alternatively blame and praise for everything that happened in the game. He also does Stand Up Comedy on You Tube. You don't find him funny? "Nohrian scum!" "You abandoned your family... and Hoshido... Now pay, for your betrayal!"
    • Gray from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is probably one of the most-quoted characters from that game. Having a hugely-expanded, witty and sarcastic personality compared to the original Gaiden, coupled with his English VA's excellent delivery, quickly turned him into a fan-favorite. Especially almost anything he says to Tobin, a good example being the infamous "Shut up, Tobin" line.
    • Fire Emblem Heroes brings us Reinhardt, who became popular due to his Game-Breaker status. He is now known within the fanbase for proclaiming that magic is everything, having tiny hands, his smug grin, and even being jokingly considered the main character of his original game due to his popularity compared to Leif.
  • King Dedede isn't just a memetic juggernaut in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! - he's memetic in the Kirby games as well. From his crouch in Smash Bros. to his muscular transformation in Kirby Star Allies, there's almost always a Dedede meme for any scenario.
  • The World Ends with You: "Attention, all yoctograms! (It's x 2) DIE!" You aren't forgetting Sho Minamimoto, are you? So zetta slow!
  • Dudley from Street Fighter III. Keeping it classy since '97. Do the words "Let's fight... like gentlemen." mean anything to you?
    • Guile tells you to Go Home And Be A Family Man, because his theme goes with everything, as a proof, he does Flash Kick FADC into Shades!
  • Fighting game pro IFC Yipes has a whole stable of memes associated with him. He's best known for screaming "IT'S MAHVEL, BAYBEE!" Marvel vs. Capcom 2) along with other memorable phrases during matches.
    • This even gets lampshaded on Cross Counter Live when Yipes is commentating on his match against Fanatiq in UMvC3: "Are these descriptions going on in your head when you're playing the match?"
  • The PSX era of the Mega Man (Classic) franchise sure has some infamous voice acting. After all, in Mega Man 8 Roll has a deeper voice than Mega Man, Dr. Light sounds like Elmer Fudd, and Mega Man pronounces the "w" in sword.

  • Many of the monsters in Undertale are extremely colorful and therefore extremely memorable. Flowey, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, and Mettaton are loaded to the gills with lines that are endlessly repeated. Some also have very memorable gestures, such as Papyrus' peculiar battle pose, Sans' nonchalant shrug, and anything Mettaton does on-screen.
  • Relatedly to Undertale, the main cast of Deltarune, also by Toby Fox, are full of meme potential.
    • Lancer and Jevil are massively quotable, particularly the latter as he is fully voiced with rather distinctive voice clips.

  • Dutch Van Der Linde from Red Dead Redemption 2 rapidly became this. He has a plan and he will keep reminding you, but you need to HAVE SOME GODDAMN FAITH.
  • Nearly every character in The House of the Dead 2 suffers from comically bad voice acting, but of note is the Big Bad Caleb Goldman, every line of whom is a meme unto itself, from "Dogs of the AMS, time they made a move" to "To protect the loyfe cycle!"
  • The Narrator of Darkest Dungeon has pretty much every line he says in the game become a meme, due to a combination of their over the top delivery and flowery language, along with Wayne June's deep, rich voice. Some of his hammier and most memetic lines include:

  • Genshin Impact gives us Zhongli, whose lines and mannerisms have become memetic. His terrible spending habits and Double Entendres associated with his Elemental Skill have proven popular, but his voice lines (courtesy of Keith Silverstein) take the cake.

    • Between people appending "& Knuckles" onto the end of various titles, "OH NO", "Ugandan Knuckles", "Nipples The Enchilada", and various oft-quoted lines and remixes of his Sonic Adventure theme song "Unknown From M.E.", it's safe to say that Knuckles the Echidna counts. It helps that Knuckles himself is The Comically Serious and his lack of social graces makes him an easy producer of comedy.
    • Big the Cat most definitely qualifies. Ironically, he was The Scrappy at first due to his often maligned gameplay from Sonic Adventure being extremely out of place, but eventually gained a cult following due to his mellow and easy going personality, and cameoing in very weird and unexpected places. Sega have caught onto this, with many merch focusing on Big.
    • Shadow the Hedgehog has gained a lot infamy and became this in the process. It really started to take off after his eponymous game which marketed Shadow as an excessively violent and aggressive '90s Anti-Hero, complete with using realistic firearms and swearing. The sheer audacity of the concept of a Funny Animal character in such a setting cemented its memetic identity. Shadow himself essentially became the poster child of "edgy" characters as a result.
  • Vergil from the Devil May Cry series is an incredibly badass, no-nonsense swordsman which makes him the perfect foil for his more comedic but equally competent brother, Dante. He manages to be both The Dreaded and The Comically Serious at the same time, while also having Hidden Depths, that deep down he's actually Not So Above It All, which makes him the perfect subject for memes. Also, his theme songs always end up being amazing.

  • The End of the World, a Flash cartoon by Jason Windsor, is a rather quotable piece of Rapid-Fire Comedy widely regarded as "the first viral video".
  • Ben Croshaw of Zero Punctuation has inspired quite a few himself, largely due to his idiosyncratic style of humor. Notables include "pants-on-head retarded", mumorpuger, Press X to Not Die, triple-cunted hooker, the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race.
  • The Nostalgia Critic has spawned several in his short time of internet fandom; "A-Chuck Norris!" and "I was FROZEN today!" are among his more popular. Creator Backlash strikes though, and Doug really doesn't like this reputation, calling the "bat credit card" the worst part of his job, and once asking for actual questions at a Q & A instead of meme requests getting shouted at him.
    • This doesn't stop him from trying to create more memes since his revival, such as "Platypus Bunny" or "Colm Wilkinson's Home". He even tried to force the trope name "Frying the Coke". It didn't work.
    • The Nostalgia Chick has quite a few of her own. She was overjoyed when Big-Lipped Alligator Moment became a trope.
  • Atop the Fourth Wall: LINKARA! He is a man! *PUNCH*
  • Homestar Runner: Strong Bad has unleashed many memes upon the world, including Trope Namers on This Very Wiki such as Your Head A-Splode, and You Can't Get Ye Flask. However, no one has yet discovered how he manages to type with boxing gloves on.

  • Egoraptor and JonTron were both memetic fountains on their own, so when Game Grumps combined them it wasn't a surprise that they had over a dozen memes literally just two weeks into the show.
  • True Capitalist: Ghost wants everyone to know he's a melting pot of friendship (HE'S A NICE GUY!) before cans.waving.
  • Nappa in Dragon Ball Z Abridged lampshades this concept and how most of the funny and memorable moments in the first season come from him. In the second season, he has to share with Super Kami Guru and the Ginyu Force, and season 3 gives us Cell and elevates Vegeta to this status.
  • JonTron: The man has inspired more .gif images than nearly any other person on Earth. Just have a look-see at his Know Your Meme gallery.
  • If the Emperor Had a Text-to-Speech Device: The series' interpretation of Rogal Dorn; every damn line of his becomes memetic thanks to his perfect deadpan delivery and extreme matter-of-factness about everything.
  • As of 2016, iDubbbz and Filthy Frank have seen a drastic increase in the usage of their videos in an online trend called "dank memes". Oddly enough, the third member of their Power Trio doesn't see nearly as much recognition.
  • To get an idea of how many things Vinesauce's Vinny and Joel have said that had become memes among their fans, just watch them play one of the many fan games and mods that have been sent in over the years. It helps that they have a tendency to find their own jokes funny enough to turn into running gags without any extra encouragement needed. Of course, since they're both video game streamers who tend to give special attention to weird or sucky games, a lot of these memes are the games themselves. One of the games Joel played and reacted to even led to the creation of SiIvaGunner.
  • Thanks to Gavin Free's status as Rooster Teeth's resident Cloudcuckoolander Ditzy Genius, anything he has said or done has been turned into a meme within their fanbase or has become part of The Merch. His infamous Tower of Pimps in Minecraft even became an Easter Egg in the game itself, and his frequent hypothetical (and often bizarre) questions has become an actual card game and recurring show on their site.
  • Real-Time Fandub has its serially-cuckolded, Twitter-rampaging interpretation of Dr. Eggman. Every single line of his is terribly quotable, and he quickly gained endless fame for "PISSING ON THE MOOOOOON!"
  • You could probably make a laundry list out of the memes Kingdom Hearts-related YouTube user Just a Pancake has created. But for specific examples, there's "χ-BLADE!", "you idiot poop face", "also, my name spelled backwards is Dis—", and the ever-classic "okay, I believe you."
  • dril is a Twitter account dedicated to posting surreal nonsense, and so, so many of his tweets have become memes that there are now entire Twitter accounts dedicated to using his tweets to caption screenshots of anime, movies, video games, etc. Conversely, fans joke that there's a dril tweet for just about any occasion.
  • Gigguk is often referenced in anime meme communities because he manages to make a new funny quote or phrase in almost every one of his videos. Some of these aren't necessarily spoken by him, but appear in videos written by him. Examples of his are "TOURNAMENT ARC" and "Motherfucking Tea".

  • If not his content on games like Wii Party and Tomodachi Life, then people will recognize Poofesure for the various screams and dialogue he says, mostly when he has exceeded his limit. Some people have taken to timestamping these in the comments of his videos, sometimes putting them into completely different contexts.
  • Scott The Woz also has quite a lot of memes to his series' name, which is rather appropriate considering his sarcastic and bizarre sense of humor. The first one we should tackle is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

  • Super Mario World (1991): Luigi's lines in the Mario cartoons are hilariously over-the-top, particularly in the "Mama Luigi" episode. "That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*
  • Thanks to the dubbing, any line of Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is a great meme in Brazil. One of the most prevalent ones is in the episode "Two Plumbers and a Baby", while in the original Toad says to Baby!Peach: "Please, stop crying" and "Bet it will keep you quiet", in the Brazilian dub he says: "Pelo amor de Deus, para!" (For God's sake, stop!) and "Se Deus quiser agora ela cala a boca" (By God's will, she'll shut up).
  • Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
  • The infamous Donkey Kong Country cartoon, with its laughably bizarre animation and surprisingly great songs, the latter boosted by DK's amazing voice actor. King K. Rool and Cranky Kong are also major spotlight stealers.
  • South Park in general tends to generate memes, but Eric Cartman is a particularly active meme fountain. "Screw you guys, I'm going home" and "Respect mah AUTHORITAH!" are two good examples, as well as his cover of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."

    • Pretty much anything that has come out of Ed's mouth has become prime YouTube Poop material at some point.

    • Almost anything Rainbow Dash does or says will become a meme in ten seconds flat.
      • And that makes it about 20% cooler.
    • Pinkie Pie. Oh so very much.

  • The Simpsons is full of memes, most of which are perpetrated by Homer. There's also the "Skinner and the Superintendent" skit from the episode "22 Short Films About Springfield", where literally every line is a meme unto itself, especially Seymour calling "his" hamburgers "Steamed Hams" (when they're Krusty Burgers that are "obviously grilled") and Chalmers questioning Seymour's claim that there's an aurora borealis "at this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within [his] kitchen".
  • Futurama, much like the Simpsons, is full of memes. Fry and Zoidberg are usually the main source for them, such as "Not Sure if X or Y", "X is bad and you should feel bad!", "Shut up and take my money!", "Why not Zoidberg?" and more.
    • Every sentence out of Zapp Brannigan's mouth is a triumph of quotable lunacy.
    • Bender Bending Rodriguez has enough memorable catchphrases and one liners to give Bart Simpson a run for his bootlegged merch.
  • Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys has a simply smashing amount of memes revolving around him! His Cloud Cuckoolander nature, Large Ham tendencies, distinctive schnoz, and Tim Curry's hilarious performance (coupled with the fact that it's one of his more different roles) probably have something to do with it.
  • GIR from Invader Zim. Dear Lord.

    • There's also Zim himself.

  • Metalocalypse: The members of Dethklok, Nathan Explosion in particular, have a number of notable quotes, including "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!", "WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT!", "I'd rather die than go to Heaven." and "RELEASE... THE KITTIES!" The fact that they're each quite hammy probably helps.
  • Mabel from Gravity Falls. Especially regarding her Smile Dip scene.

    "My ex-wife still misses me... BUT HER AIM IS GETTIN' BETTER!!!"
    "When there's no cops around, anything's legal!"

  • In the same vein as Cheese above is Fred Fredburger from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
    • And Mandy. Definitely.

  • Steven Universe brings us Peridot, who causes new memes to spring forth with every appearance she makes. It's to the point that the Steven Universe meme page has its own section dedicated solely to her.
  • No mention of the Earl of Lemongrab from Adventure Time? UNACCEPTABLLLLLLE!!!!! ONE MILLION YEEEEEARS DUNGEON!
  • Samurai Jack: FOOLISH tropers! Once again, your edits are in vain! You have forgotten to mention the EXTRA THICC supply of GREEEEAT FLAAAAMING MEEEEEMES that is Aku, the master of masters, the deliverer of darkness, the shogun of sorrow!
    • And you simply can't forget me, babe: Scaramouche the Merciless, yeah! People have been referencing me and my fabulously fantastic Memetic Mutation ever since I showed up in Season 5. Ensemble Dark Horse-dom, here I come!
  • Darwin Watterson from The Amazing World of Gumball has a "fake smile" in "The Meddler" episode that eventually became a universal meme.
  • For some reason, the American Dad! theme became this in 2019, with many variations on the sequence being posted on the Internet. Memes concerning this are so popular that people have done the various memes that started as spoofs or edits of the American Dad! theme with other cartoons, with the most popular choices being the themes to SpongeBob SquarePants and fellow Seth MacFarlane show Family Guy. And then there's American Dad Speedruns, which parody video game speedruns with the same intro.
  • Phineas and Ferb is filled with memes, but by far the most common source of them is Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
  • Justice League turned the Question into a nutty Conspiracy Theorist liberally frosted with Success Through Insanity, so this was inevitable.
  • Tom and Jerry was named meme of the year in 2019 by r/dank memes.
  • Loonatics Unleashed. If you have seen any cartoon, comic or webcomic from the Turn of the Millennium or early in The New '10s making a Darker and Edgier reboot parody, odds are good Loonatics will be part of the reference.
  • Many memes involving Peppa Pig have been created on TikTok. Perhaps the most famous is one in which Peppa is found in an unusual location and the person asks "Peppa, what are you doing in my (object)?", to the point where the Twitter of American broadcaster Nick Jr. spoofed the meme.
  • King of the Hill has Hank. His nature as The Comically Serious gave rise to many memes and jokes in Youtube Poop, with his lines like "Dang it, Bobby," "I'll tell you h'what," "I sell propane and propane accessories" known by many. This includes his signature "BWAH!" scream and even some of the facial expressions, like a smile distorted by Dale's vision as he's having a breakdown, or his blissful look when showing Bobby the "right way" to smoke.
  • Pretty much everything everyone's said or done on Family Guy has become a meme at some point but special mentions go out to Peter, Brian, Stewie and who else but Quagmire?
