This is the act of pulling down one lower eyelid and sticking out the tongue and saying Bleah!
In Japan, this is referred to as akanbe (a corruption of akai me, "red eye"), and it's called mon œil ("my eye") in France and Quebec.

- Ryunosuke and Yoshimi give the Red Eye to Arisa and Kyoko at the end of the Beach Episode of All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku.
- Bleach:
- Happens twice in anime episode 11.
- While the students are facing school discipline, Tatsuki does it to Ichigo after he resents her attempt to get out of being suspended.
- While the students are checking their academic rankings, Keigo does it to Ichigo after discovering Ichigo's high standing and calling him a nerd.
- In anime episode 337, a cartoon image of Captain Mayuri appears on the screen and does this to Kisuke Urahara each time Urahara fails to guess the Squad 12 computer system's password.
- Mashiro does this to Kensei to mock him for forgetting that she can maintain her Mask of Power for 15 hours.
- Happens twice in anime episode 11.
- In Bubblegum Crisis, Nene Romanova uses her powered-armor's laser to scrawl a picture of someone giving a red-eye on a sidewalk, as a gesture to the military who are tracking her by spy satellite, just before ducking under a bridge to drop off her armor in a truck and walk off as a perfectly normal girl. (This must have shamed said military a great deal, because we never see them again attempt to discover the Knight Sabers' identities this way, despite them not being very subtle about heading to and from their base.)

- In Digimon Adventure, Mimi and Palmon do this after giving the slip to Sukamon and Chuumon, then do it again at the end of the episode as a parting insult.
- Doraemon: In "Noby, the Great Illusionist", Sneech taunts Noby by doing this when the latter asks for his Cardosaur trading card back.
- Doraemon: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi have Yamitem, the shapeshifting robot psychopath, transforming into Doraemon after capturing the real Doraemon alive, and taunting everyone's favourite robot cat by pulling down his eyelids (both of them).
- Dragon Ball franchise:
- Goku does this a lot as a child in Dragon Ball, as does present Trunks later on.
- After Goku beats Piccolo Jr. in the 23rd Budokai, Kami offers him the position of God of the planet. Goku shoots him down with this gesture before leaving with his soon-to-be-wife Chi-Chi.
- In Dragon Ball Z, Jimmy Firecracker/the Cell Games reporter does this to Perfect Cell combined with Flipping the Bird. Kid Buu does the akanbe too.
- In Dragon Ball Super's Universal Survival* Arc, while reintroducing Universe 6's Hit, Champa quickly sneaks this taunt behind him towards Goku's Universe 7 team.
- A rare instance of the trope in a tragic use when Champa is about to be erased by Zeno; he does this a final gesture and goodbye to his brother, Beerus.
- In the anime of The Executioner and Her Way of Life, Momo gives Ashuna one of these after she dupes her into falling for a trap filled with monsters.
- In Full Metal Panic!, Kaname does this to Sōsuke when she ditches him (temporarily) at the train station.
- In Girls und Panzer, after Erika is walking away from taunting the Oarai team, Saori does this to her.
- Hanaukyō Maid Team La Vérité episode 7. Yashima Sanae has been insulted by Ryuuka, who insinuates that she's giving up on the expedition. As Mariel and Yashima Sanae walk off hand in hand, Yashima gives this to Ryuuka.
- Happens at the end of the Haruhi Suzumiya episode "Someday in the Rain" by Haruhi. She also does it on the cover of the sixth novel, and the back of the DVDs in a chibi form.
- Viola does this in episode 7 of Kiddy Grade.
- In Kingdom Hearts II, Kairi does this to Axel when she escapes with Pluto into the Dark Realm, leading them both to Twilight Town.
- In a flashback in Episode 1 of Kotoura-san, one female classmate does this to Haruka. It's Played for Drama.
- In Little Witch Academia (2017), after Akko manages to dodge some attacks from a bunch of snakes, she does this to them while in her mouse form.
- Mylene gives Basara the Red Eye as she drives away with Basara's Transforming Mecha to have it repaired in an episode of Macross 7.
- Agito does this to Reinforce Zwei in the ending sequence of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Striker S.
- My Neighbor Totoro sees Kanta occasionally making this gesture at Satsuki.
- Princess Mashiro does this to a trio of castle guards in the first episode of My-Otome, as seen in the image above. She then does it in the next episode when talking down to Arika.
- Urabe does this in Mysterious Girlfriend X when Tsubaki wants to take her picture, and when she reveals she lied about having a crush on another boy when she was younger.
- Naruto: Ino shoots this gesture at Sakura while claiming Sasuke for herself at the Chuunin Exams.
- In the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Asuka does this to Shinji after her initial strike against the Angel Israfel (seemingly) killed it.
- Ojarumaru does this to the Kooni Trio in 1st series episodes 2 and 14 to express his refusal to return King Enma's scepter. He then does it to Iwashimizu in episode 16.
- Onegai My Melody: This is one of Kuromi's tactics against My Melody.
- A couple times in Ouran High School Host Club Hikaru and Kaoru do this at the same time (in opposite eyes, no less).
- Kaitou in Phi-Brain: Puzzle of God tends to perform the act whenever declaring "It's Puzzle Time". See the anime's entry image for the exact gesture.
- Happens in Pokémon: The Series occasionally. 4Kids inconsistently edited this out of the dub.
- An Aerodactyl does this to Ash's Charmeleon. It pisses him off so much that he promptly evolves into Charizard.
- One of the Pichu Brothers does this to Pikachu (and spanks his own butt) in the short Pikachu and Pichu.
- A Phione does this to Jessie in season 12.
- Team Rocket did this on multiple occasions in season 1.
- At the end of "Clefairy and the Moon Stone," when Ash reads the sign pointing ahead to Cerulean City, he spots a message left for him by Gary. As he reads the message, an image of Gary giving this gesture briefly appears on screen. 4Kids took the image out of the dub, though.
- After Ash got banned from the Celadon Gym for badmouthing the Gym Leader's perfume shop without knowing that she was the owner, one member responds to Ash's pleas to get inside by simply giving him this gesture.
- May does this to Max in "Tree's a Crowd".
- The first ending of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl has a montage of Dawn making several faces, including this gesture.
- Jessie does it to Ash in the last Best Wishes! episode.
- In The Quintessential Quintuplets, after Fuutarou not-so-subtly tells Ituski that she's an idiot who needs academic help, she agrees... and goes up to the teacher to ask for said help instead of him, who's supposed to be tutoring her and her sisters, shooting him this gesture afterward. She would later do this to Mudou, after rejecting his too-little-too-late attempts to act as her father despite abandoning their late mother the moment he learned that she was having quintuplets.
- Ranma ½:
- Ranma and Akane give each other the Red Eye fairly frequently.
- Ranma once the Red Eye to Principal Kuno with his big toe, as his arms were tied up.
- In The Rising of the Shield Hero, Myne, after falsely accusing Naofumi of raping her, does this at him as a cruel taunt. She also does this to Motoyasu after abandoning him for Ren.
- Sailor Moon:
- Usagi and Rei's relationship in Sailor Moon is largely giving each other red-eye.
- Shingo also does this to Usagi in his first appearance.
- Spotted in Shaman King.
- Averted with the Akanbes in Smile PreCure! who have nothing to do with this trope. Some of them stick out their tongue but they don't pull down their lower eyelid.
- In Sonic X, Sonic does this while standing on the arm of one of Eggman's mechs to goad it into hitting itself. Amy also does this at one point after getting irritated by civilians watching them.
- In Squid Girl, Ika does this when Goro tells her and Takeru they're not supposed to be sitting in his lifeguard chair.
- Lum sometimes does this to Ataru in Urusei Yatsura after he has upset her. Sugar, Pepper, and Ginger of the Girl Trio Gang are also fond of doing this to Benten after getting the upper hand in their confrontations.
- Dita gives Jura the Red Eye in an episode of Vandread.
- Yu-Gi-Oh!:
- Jounouchi does this to Yami Malik after he reduces the latter's LP to 0 in the Battle City semifinal match up determining duel.
- Rebecca does this to Vivian Wong after beating her and claiming Yugi (who they both have a crush on) for herself.
- Yu-Gi-Oh!: Capsule Monsters: Tristan makes Joey do this to an enemy monster in order to draw its attacks.

- In Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Mighty Little Defenders episode 4, as Wolffy is writing a letter to his son Wilie, he is stung by a mosquito who then taunts him by pulling his eyelid and sticking his tongue out at him.

- Date A Re:Live: In the middle of the fight between herself and a replica of her inverse form, Tohka does it to the replica in order to blind the latter with a sandstorm.
- Megami no Hanabira: Sara does this to Colette near the end.
- Pizzazz does this to Kimber in the third chapter of A Song of Grumbling & Cotton Candy after teasing her about her sex life with Stormer.

- Apone does this to Hudson in Aliens "Look into my eye." He adds a USCM bonus while he's at it.

Professional Wrestling
- While missing the visible tongue, NJPW wrestler Tetsuya Naito is known for a similar gesture to this, widening his left eye with both his thumb and index finger (below and above, respectively). It's so synonymous with him that it even crops up in his fictionalised appearance in Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life.

- It's worth noting that Naito began making this gesture while on excursion to CMLL in Mexico, where racist fans would mock his Japanese features by shouting at him to "open his eyes." So while he's not sticking his tongue out or making a noise, there's definitely disdain and defiance inherent in his use.

- Anna does this in Epic Battle Fantasy 5 when she's particularly angry at whoever she's talking to. NoLegs merely snarls (the name explains why) while the other humans resort to a different gesture.
- In Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds, Freddi does this at the end of the Dummied Out "Eddie Eats Luther" scene.
- In Genshin Impact, Mona's Elemental Skill creates a projected image of her doing this that Draws Aggro from nearby enemies.
- The Wanderer, previously Scaramouche the Balladeer, does this as a taunt towards the player after threatening to attack them in his idle animation.

- The pirate Briggs in Golden Sun: The Lost Age, while making off with a nice ship, is chided by his wife into doing what he apparently talked about all the time while in jail — give your party the Red Eye. He was apparently on the verge of chickening out. He's stolen the ship and is well on his way out to sea, and he's almost too scared of Felix for a parting gesture.
- In The King of Fighters XIII, if Kula Diamond (a 14-year-old girl who's also very childish for her age) gets upset during the pre-fight dialogues, she's shown doing this to the person she's talking to. In both XIV and XV, she also does it both when taunting and right before her Limit Break.
- Mega Man's taunt in any crossover game he's featured in, except Super Smash Bros..
- In Potion Permit, resident prankster kid Russo does this taunt in his album portrait by pulling down his right eyelid and sticking out his tongue.
- There's an emote for this for The Voiceless cast of the second Snowboard Kids game.
- One of the toad children in the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario RPG wants to marry Mario and tells him that she will do this to Bowser in the Japanese version of the game; in English, it's changed to her asking Mario to wait a few years so she can grow into her mother's wedding dress (in the SNES version) or to become Mario's sidekick (in the Switch remake). Strangely, both games preserve the child's reaction if Bowser is in your party (her shouting a taunting sound and running inside a nearby house), which seems to make no sense in the translated script.
- In Super Mario Sunshine, Shadow Mario does this to Mario, revealing an Overly-Long Tongue, as he takes off to Pinna Park with Peach in tow.
- In Tekken 7, Eddie's ending has Lucky Chloe do this to him and running away after he defeats her.
- In Trials of Mana, Angela does this after she tricks a prison guard and traps him in her cell.
- In Umineko: Golden Fantasia Lucifer does this as her taunt.
- An NPC does this to another NPC in Final Fantasy Tactics during one of the non-combat scenes, and it's easy to miss if you're mostly paying attention to the storyline.
- Yakuza 2: in Kiwami 2, this is Koyuki's favored way of seeing off unwanted guests at the club. it meshes very well with her Hot-Blooded and somewhat immature nature.

- Ariel does it in Drowtales as she leaves her "room" (really a cell that was formerly used to hold disobedient slaves). The author is French-Canadian.
- In their introduction in Ignition Zero, Neve does this to show that they're immature.
Western Animation
- In The Owl House, Lilith does this to Eda in her Owlbeast form even after stating she won't react to the latter's raspberry taunt.
- Molly of Denali: In "The Funny Face Competition," Midge practices making funny faces for the competition, and pulls her eyelid in one instance.
- My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: Limestone Pie does this in the season 5 episode "Hearthbreakers".
- When meeting Samurai Jack for the first time, the Scotsman does a tiny bit of this ("worm-eyed") near the end of his twenty-second long insult.
- The Steven Universe episode "Friend Ship" has Steven do it towards Peridot while the two are arguing. Peridot returns the favor as she makes her escape.
- In Teen Titans, when Control Freak has been bested by the Titans East, he cries foul, zaps himself into the TV and departs with this gesture, leaving the Titans East to try and figure out what the hell just happened.
- Tiny Toon Adventures: Appeared in the They Might Be Giants "Istanbul (not Constantinople)" video of the music video episode. Considering how the episode was sourced to TMS Entertainment, it may have been thrown in by the animators and kept.
