Thomas Hunter suffers a head injury and wakes up in an alternate reality (that has two forests — one brightly colored with healing fruit and cute white bats called Roush, and another, seperated from the colored woods by a river, that is creepy and houses evil black bats called Shataiki) every time he goes to sleep. He realizes that a deadly virus, the Raison Strain, is about to be released in "our world", and that the forest is also in danger. The virus is released, causing massive casualties, and the tranquil forest in the "other world" is ravaged by evil (and called The Black Forest.)
This book contains examples of the tropes:
- The Multiverse
- The Plague / The Virus: The Raison Strain.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Roush and Shataiki, and, on a skin-condition level, Scabs (diseased) and Albinos (those cured of the disease when drowned in Elyon's waters.)
