Go To

Chilean novel by the author Hernán Rivera Letelier.

Under the burning mid-December sun of 1907, a throng of saltpeter miners, women and children, inhabitants of the pampa salitrera set out on the long walk to Iquique their goal to demand better work and life conditions. Along the way friendships were forged, lovers were found, quarrels fought, but no one could ever have imagined what awaited them once they reached the harbor city.

This novel provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: José Pintor doesn't like priests.
  • Downer Ending: Most of Olegario's friends die during the massacre of the school and he's forced to go back to his ordinary life with poor conditions.
