Go To

Mr. Majeika is both a wizard and a teacher because, according to his own words, people won't give you a job if you tell them you can do magic. After all, who believes in magic nowadays? Once you've got the job secured, however, nothing stops you from awing the kids with some handy tricks. Producing snacks out of nowhere is one of his students' favorites.

This series of children's novels was written by Humphrey Carpenter and published from 1984 to 2006. It got a Live-Action Adaptation in 1988 called Television Adventures of Mr. Majeika.

It's the Spear Counterpart of Ms. Wiz.

Tropes:

  • Honking Arriving Car: In the Live-Action Adaptation, a character always arrives or departs with the car horn honking and the stereo playing "Colonel Bogey March".
  • Misplaced Kindergarten Teacher: In one of the books, Penelope Primrose, author of cutesy books about a rabbit called Little Bluebell, appears. She refers to the ten-year-old protagonists as "little tots", speaks in baby talk, and insists she doesn't take any "grown-up drinks" like tea. She's scared off when she sniffs a bouquet with stinging nettles hidden in them.
  • Must Have Lots of Free Time: The titular character teaches at a regular school and, instead of grading assignments or preparing his classes, he gets into supernatural hijinks with his students. Somehow justified because he's a wizard and therefore better equipped to deal with that sort of stuff.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To Gulliver's Travels as Mr. Majeika on the Internet includes modernized parallels to the lands of the Lilliputians, Brobdingnagians, Laputans, and Houyhnhnms, as well as a mouse named Gulliver.
