Människa utan hund ("Human without dog") is a crime novel written by Håkan Nesser in 2006 and the first book in The Barbarotti Series.

The Hermansson family reunites to celebrate the birthdays of two family members. What is supposed to be a homely celebration, becomes rather awkward because of Robert, the black sheep of the family, who managed to disgrace himself in the Swedish television. During the party, Robert leaves to visit a friend and doesn't come back, the night after, Henrik, Robert's nephew, disappears too. From now on, Inspector Barbarotti has to investigate.

Tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: "Runk-Robert"
  • Dub Name Change: In the German translation, Robert got renamed to "Walter" to keep up the alliteration ("Wichs-Walter").
  • Dysfunctional Family: No one wants to be present at the family reunion, especially since Robert disgraced himself in front of whole Sweden.
