Heirloom of the Rusks is the first book in an ongoing high fantasy series, set in Ayrien - a world with two moons where the sapient population consists of various anthropomorphic animals. Featured in this first book is the leporine species, one that evolved from rabbits. Our hero is Cinnabar Rusk, a jerk with a heart of gold whose disorderly behaviour ill matches his reputable name, to his politician mother's chagrin. Life in Ruskebó, though not without complication thanks to local intrigues and clan feuds, is relatively peaceful. Until an implacable enemy appears, forcing Cinnabar and every other leporine to flee or die trying. But their adversary is persistent and gives chase.

Written under the pen name Lucas d'Aquina, Heirloom of the Rusks was first published in May 2018.

Heirloom of the Rusks contains examples of:

  • Action Prologue: The prologue, where an unnamed Rim Scout is shown to flee from the enemies that will later invade Ruskebó.
  • Crapsaccharine World: The Flower Valley is inhabited by little sapient rabbits! And they've got everything from horrifically abusive parents to corrupt politicians taking advantage of a crisis to roll democracy back to dystopian levels.
  • Furry Confusion: Averted: It is made clear very quickly that while the leporine species is derived from rabbits, the usual rabbits coexist and are not considered sapient.
