Engines of Creation is Fantasy Literature revolving on the lives of eight thousand small-town Canadians as they find themselves suddenly and irrevocably stuck in the Pactlands, a land that still abides by the rules of steel, magick and blood.

A Web Serial Novel series by EJ Spurrell which could be read for free online before but now it's been taken down, you can find it in Amazon starting with the first novel, Children of the Halo[1].

  • A Little Something We Call "Rock and Roll":
    • Ryan performs songs by the Smashing Pumpkins, Finger Eleven and more to several groups within the Disputed Lands and Halen, including in front of an audience in Arronay.
    • Lily introduces Arie to Metallica
    • Bayne develops a fondness for dubstep.
  • Background Magic Field: The Veil is an example of this trope.
  • Caught on Tape:
    • Quick uses Terra's digital camera to capture evidence of conspiracy by Izon Dueck.
    • A surveillance camera with a live feed is set up directly in the center of a Vectoran war camp.
  • Civilized Animal: The Tyl, the Featherclaw and the El'Dar
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Lily swears at Phearon Tome. A lot.
  • Elemental Powers: Pyromagi, Aquamagi, Aeromagi, Geomagi, Voltimagi and others have control over the elements.
  • Fainting Seer: Terra crashes her quad into a tree after having a seizure induced by a vision.
  • Functional Magic: The various forms of magi have practical applications for their gifts.
  • Kick the Dog: Ryde kills Mis in a shockingly cruel display.
  • Le Parkour: Boomer is quite adept at Parkour.
  • Medieval Stasis: Despite making several advances one thousand years in the past, the Pactlands is still largely medieval, mostly due to the Council's control over the flow of information.
  • Reluctant Mad Scientist: Mike Sephalon, the Blue Seer.
  • Sir Swearsalot: Gerald Boone and Lily Rasmussen.
  • The Chosen One: Terra is given powers that have not been seen for a thousand years. Also, it can be argued that the entire town of Dunsmith are in essence Chosen Ones.
  • Trapped in Another World: The town of Dunsmith is trapped in the Disputed Lands.
  • This Is My Boomstick:
    • Terra is consistently snapping pictures during her trip, surprising many of the locals.
    • Terra shows Silvereye a Bic lighter, and teaches Quick how to use her camera.
    • The group that enters Halen does so riding modern All-Terrain Vehicles.
    • Anastae is bombed by modern aircraft.
