Doctor Omega is a 1906 science fiction novel written by French author Arnould Galopin.

It tells the recollections of Denis Borel, the narrator, of his adventure with the mysterious Doctor Omega, an eccentric scientist who has invented a the spaceship Cosmos, after Borel investigates Doctor Omega's. Together with Doctor Omega's assistant Fred, they travel to Mars, and explore the flora, fauna, and civilizations that live there.

An "adapted and retold" edition was released in 2003 by Jean-Marc Lofficier and Randy Lofficier, with a foreword by Terrance Dicks. They updated some of the science, and removed some plot holes and some racist language. Additionally, details were added to imply that Doctor Omega was the same as The Doctor from Doctor Who.

Not To be confused with the character Omega from Doctor Who, nor the audio drama bearing his name.

This story contains examples of:

  • Applied Phlebotinum: Stellite or repulsite, depending on the edition, the metal that repels spacetimes and allows the Cosmos to travel to Mars.
  • Doctor Whomage: An odd case, as this book predates Doctor Who by almost six decades, and yet Doctor Omega has several similarities with The First Doctor, and the 2003 edition deliberately adds references to imply that Doctor Omega and The Doctor are one and the same. In any case, he is an eccentric scientist who takes human companions on adventures in space, so he fits the archetype.
  • Dumb Muscle: Fred.
  • Fish People: The first group of sapient aliens the Cosmos crew encounters.
  • Lizard Folk: Another way the Fish people are described.
  • Long-Lived: One Martian species lives up to 300 years.
  • Martians: of varying levels of sophistication.
  • Negative Space Wedgie: The helix that the Cosmos encounters on the way to Mars.
  • No Full Name Given: Fred's surname is not given.
  • Retro Rocket: How the Cosmos is described.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: One species of Martian has invented bat-like wings so as to avoid snakes that live on the ground.
