Diaclone VS. Gridman is a web-novel which serves as a crossover for Denkō Chōjin Gridman (and by proxy, SSSS.GRIDMAN) and Takara Tomy's line of Diaclone toys.

The web-novel ran for four chapters and is currently free to be read in Takara Tomy's website, while the fully translated version can be read here.

This work provides examples of:

  • Badass Bookworm: Hikari Kaizaki, in addition to being a Teen Genius (at the age of 18), she also went through the combat training as part of a Diaclone officer's necessity. Its proven in her fight against small parasitic monsters with a Gridman-empowered Powered Suit.
  • Big Good: The Landmaster from the original Diaclone toy line, an advanced AI which supported the human society in the Metra Zone (Tokyo City). Gridman and Hikari spent a chapter finding the Landmaster to get the help they need to fight Giganter.
  • Broken Ace: Hikari Kaizaki may be an excellent Diaclone officer and a Teen Genius, but her motivations were driven by the regret of losing her little brother to the Diaclone/Waruder conflict prior to the story.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: Without enough power, Gridman can't materialize from Hikari, but he manages to work his way around by assimilating with a Powered Suit, allowing him to at least fight against some of the parasite monsters.
  • Cool Plane: While the Diaclone universe does have tons of mechas laying around, the Landmaster created the Battle Hanger, an Assist Weapon that was based on the Dia-Battles V1 aircraft from the moon. Oh and did we mention that it can combine with Gridman?
  • Cool Sword: The Thunder Crash Caliber, which is the very weapon used to kill Giganter. Although only demonstrated in the toy, Gridman can also split it into a thin sword and a shield.
  • Dark Is Evil: The Giganter monster's main body is entirely black. To drive it home further, its colored like the Waruders' mechas and is the very Planet Waruder given life.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Giganter itself for being an alien planet given sentience. Then there's also the smaller winged parasite monsters latching onto it that similarly menacing the population.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: The Landmaster's original form is a crystallized being when Gridman visited his Computer World. During the conversation with Gridman and Hikari, Landmaster took the form of a human scientist and finally a Diaclone pilot to deliver the Battle Hanger.
  • From a Single Cell: What makes the Giganter deadly is that it has the ability to regenerate from injuries as its body constantly vibrates. The Thunder Crash Caliber has the green quartz from Hikari's necklace that makes sure to cancel Giganter's ability.
  • Kaiju: The main antagonist of the web novel is Giganter, a giant monster that was originally home to the Diaclone's nemesis, the Waruders, which resulted in its current form after their planet was driven to near destruction.
  • Mecha Expansion Pack: The Assist Weapons, par on norm with what Gridman fights with. The Landmaster created two of them, the Battle Hanger and Thunder Crash Caliber in the fight against Giganter.
  • Merchandise-Driven: In addition to the web novel, it also advertises appropriate toys that fits the crossover. The first wave is the Battles Gridman, then followed by Gridman's sole release with the Thunder Crash Caliber and finally the Grid Suit.
  • Mythology Gag: The web-novel exclusive Assist Weapons parallel with some of the original assist weapons from the original Gridman TV series, and in the 2018 anime.
    • The Battle Hanger is this web novel's answer to the King Jet, and Battles Gridman would be the closest equivalent to King Gridman.
    • The Thunder Crash Caliber is based on the Gridman Calibur, throw in the color scheme of the Gridman Sword, bonus points for having an additional shield like the latter.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Kaizaki's Dia Tector combat suit is pink. Also judging from Masaru Sakamoto's rough design, it also extends to her Acceptor.
  • Prequel: The web novel reveals that Gridman's Primal Fighter form from the SSSS.GRIDMAN was originated here when Hikari became Gridman's host. Her image of the ideal hero Silver Kration manifested into Gridman's Primal Fighter and the rest is history. In addition, Word of God also acknowledges that its a prequel to the 2016 Diaclone Reboot.
  • Race Against the Clock: The final chapter is about Gridman, Hikari and Landmaster making sure to kill Giganter as quick as possible before it grows into the size of solar system and destroying planet Earth.
  • Reused Character Design: In terms of appearance, Hikari resembles an less buxom and dark skinned Akane Shinjo.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Hikari's idea of hero is the Silver Kration she and her brother created back when the latter was still alive. When Hikari fuses into Gridman's host, Gridman took the form of Silver Kration who is apparently the very form that Gridman spent using during the SSSS.GRIDMAN anime.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: Part of the story's main plot is that Hikari grows from being cynical to finally having a different outlook in life, hence she's able to trust into being heroes instead of waiting for them.
  • World-Healing Wave: Gridman uses Fixer Beam to undo the massive collateral damages done by Giganter before he leaves the Earth for good.
