"Today feels like a good day to be... pants free!

Butt Out! is a 2018 children's book written and illustrated by Australian author Heath McKenzie.

The story focuses on the cheeky shenanigans of Baboon, who one day decides to ditch wearing clothes and parade his bare bottom all around town. This naturally offends everyone who sees him sauntering about in public with his cheeks flapping in the wind, but Baboon couldn't care less. It might just take all the disgruntled citizens joining in protest to convince him to finally put some pants on, and even then, will that be enough to keep Baboon's crack covered?

A sequel titled Don't Butt In! was published in 2019 — this time Baboon decides to go showing off his new pair of trousers and how he's not putting his butt on display anymore, which manages to annoy everyone just as much as when he was going around naked.

This series contains examples of:

  • Bare-Bottomed Monkey: The whole premise of the first book is Baboon showing off his big bare pink backside in front of everyone. Subverted in Don't Butt In! where Baboon spends most of the book showing off about not showing off his butt, until everyone unintentionally convinces him to start doing it again.
  • Comically Oversized Butt: Baboon, being a Bare-Bottomed Monkey, has huge buttocks, which he uses to tease people when he decides to get naked for fun.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: One townsperson reacts to Baboon's rump by trying to cover her children's eyes, but not only she has too many kids and too few hands to do it for all of them, they seem to think it's Actually Pretty Funny.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Butt of course! When everyone sees Baboon with his butt out, they all tell him to butt out. Likewise in the sequel, nobody wants Baboon to butt in when he keeps inserting his pants-clad butt into everyone's business.
  • Fun with Homophones: Done in this exchange:
Townsperson: (Seeing Baboon's behind) But... but... but...
    Max: Yes! Yes it is!
  • Here We Go Again!: Don't Butt In! ends with all the townspeople telling Baboon not to butt in after he annoys them all with his pants-covered heinie. He complies by stripping naked and flaunting his naked behind all over again.
  • Hurricane of Puns: It wouldn't serve the premise well if the books weren't chock-full of butt puns. Even the titles are blatant Pun Based Titles.
  • Joke of the Butt: Every single joke is about the butt in some way or other.
  • Loophole Abuse: By the end of Butt Out! everyone yells at Baboon to put on some pants, which he begrudgingly does... before ripping seat off of them so his butt hangs bare out of the back — they never asked him to put on a whole pair of pants after all.
  • Mischief-Making Monkey: At the very least Baboon doesn't seem to care about the consequences of walking around naked in the first book, even when pointed out to him. By the second book he's far more intentionally mischievous, using his behind to get on everyone's nerves.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Everything is kicked off by Baboon deciding to walk around town in his birthday suit.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Both books have Baboon agreeing to put some pants on, and both books also end with him going buns-out again.
  • Silly Simian: Baboon with his butt-baring buffoonery.
  • Title Drop: Butt Out! concludes with Baboon telling all the townsfolk he offended to do just that. Don't Butt In! follows suit with the same townsfolk telling Baboon to do much the same.
  • World of Funny Animals: Baboon and the rest of the townsfolk are all anthropomorphic animals.
