Santa Claus: The Anime is a Shonen anime that ran for 52 episodes over the 2018-19 anime season. An english dub is currently in production.

Twin brothers Klaus and Tomas have been training their entire lives to take on the roles of Santa Claus and Krampus, respectively. However, as they reach adulthood, the pressure takes its toll on Klaus, who eventually breaks under it and runs away, not wanting to fulfill his destiny.

This turns out to be a big mistake — without him to fill the role of Santa, the Santa-Krampus Equilibrium collapses and the resulting chaotic energy engulfs Tomas, causing him to go rogue and enact a reign of terror across the globe.

Now, with the help of Mrs. Claus-in-training Carol and a slew of other holiday figures, Klaus must take up the role of Santa against his wishes and fight back the darkness. Will he be able to save his brother from the darkness and bring peace back to the holiday season?

This anime contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Carol, whose job as Mrs. Claus involves defending the headquarters while Santa is away.
  • An Ice Person: Both Jack Frost and his sister, Beira, have powers related to ice and snow.
  • Badass Santa: Klaus, of course. It's tradition; apparently, the first Santa's coat was dyed red by the blood of his enemies.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: The Santa-Krampus Equilibrium: there must always be a Santa Claus to balance out Krampus and vice-versa. If it's broken, things quickly go to Hell.
  • Big Bad: Tomas.
  • Bond One-Liner: Carol gets "Rest in pieces, naughty boy."
  • Cain and Abel: Tomas and Klaus, respectively.
  • Cute Witch: Sammy, the current spirit of Halloween, dresses like one.
  • Dark Is Evil: Tomas dresses entirely in black and is the show’s Big Bad.
  • Driven to Madness: The chaotic energies created by the breaking of the Santa-Krampus equilibrium did this to Tomas.
  • Face–Heel Turn: When the Santa-Krampus equilibrium is shattered, the resulting chaotic energies drive Tomas to villainy.
  • Flashback: There are several flashbacks to the past that show what Klaus and Tomas' lives were like training under Old Man Santa and Kramps.
  • Genki Girl: Carol is cheerful and hyperactive, even in the face of adversity.
  • Horned Humanoid: Tomas is one, fitting his job as Krampus. Doubles as Horns of Villainy after he turns evil.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Klaus knows that the brother he loves is still somewhere in there, and so all his battles with Tomas end up becoming this.
Tomas: My, my...have you come to eliminate me?
Klaus: No...I'm here to take my brother BACK!!
  • The Krampus: In this series, Krampus' job is to accompany Santa and punish evildoers by turning them into coal.
  • Legacy Character: The titles of Santa Claus and Krampus are passed down to successors over the generations, as well as other titles related to the holidays.
  • Magic Staff: Tomas, Sammy, and Jack Frost all wield one.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Tomas is a fairly common name in central Europe, where the Krampus myth originated from.
    • Carol's name is a reference to A Christmas Carol.
    • The Halloween spirit is named Sammy, which according to her is short for "Samhain".
    • Beira is named after the Gaelic deity of winter.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Old Man Santa and Kramps, who mentored the hero and villain, die in the first episode; the former lasts long enough to warn Klaus of what happened to Tomas.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: If Klaus hadn't run away, none of this would have happened.
  • Oral Fixation: Carol is often seen with a candy cane in her mouth.
  • The Promise: Klaus and Tomas made one when they were children to train as hard as they could and work together when they came of age. This becomes a source of much angst for Tomas, who doesn't understand why his brother ran away from his responsibilities.
What happened to our promise before, Klaus?
  • Reluctant Hero: The only reason Klaus agrees to become Santa again is to rescue his brother. He grows out of it as the series progresses.
  • Shout-Out: The fact that Jack Frost has a younger sister, though how intentional it was is heavily debated in the fandom.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead: Carol had bright red hair and bright green eyes, and serves as the deuteragonist.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Tomas' eyes are a pale gold.
  • Taken for Granite: Krampus' job is to punish evildoers by transforming them into coal before dragging them into the abyss. When Tomas turns evil, he starts doing this to everyone regardless of who they are.
  • Those Two Guys: Carol is always accompanied by two ridiculously buff elves named Jingle and Jangle.
  • Tragic Villain: Tomas only became a villain because his brother abandoned him and the broken Balance Between Good and Evil ended up driving him mad.
  • Unflinching Walk: At one point, Carol walks away from an explosion she caused, flanked by Jingle and Jangle and carrying a tray of cookies and milk in one hand.
