Jerkass Has a Point in Dragon Ball.
In General
- Despite his harsh exterior Vegeta has made explanations and rationalized his own actions to the point of it being a Running Gag, especially regarding fights; this contrasts him with the more lenient style of Goku.
- During his fight with Giran, Goku saves himself from a Ring Out by calling for his Flying Nimbus. When Giran calls foul the referee acknowledges he has legitimate reason to protest and talks to some higher-ups offscreen. He comes back and says that while Goku's still allowed to compete since his move wasn't illegal at the time, there's now a rule against it so he'll be disqualified if he tries it again.
- Staff Officer Black is appalled by Commander Red's intention of not achieving global domination but instead becoming taller. Considering that Goku had already taken out their best operatives and laid waste to much of their forces it's no wonder he gunned down his own leader; the Staff Officer still had a point even after resuming the Red Ribbon Army's downfall in the Commander's place.
- Yajirobe has a moment of this after a fight against Vegeta, calling out Chi-Chi for focusing entirely on Gohan, who was merely unconscious while ignoring Goku, who didn't have a single unbroken bone in his body.
- Yajirobe made another point when Bulma wanted to see the "androids" Future Trunks warned Goku and his friends about; he protests bringing the infant Present Trunks into the line of fire. His concerns are proven when Android 20/Dr. Gero shoots down Bulma's aircraft, leaving Yajirobe nearly Buried Alive while Bulma and Present Trunks have to be rescued by Future Trunks.
- Vegeta would continue to provide more than a few good points or reasons:
- His killing Guldo, Burter and Recoome of the Ginyu Force after their defeats. Goku stated Vegeta was being cruel but he retorted it was deserved, especially since Gohan and Krillin were on the verge of death and they had killed countless people under Frieza's orders. While Goku said having a little compassion isn't a disadvantage sparing any of the Ginyu Force would've caused more harm than good. This is emphasized later on when Goku unhesitatingly spares their even more sadistic leader Frieza's life at least twice — which only prompts him to betray Goku both times.
- After saving the heart virus-stricken Goku from being killed by Android 19, Vegeta proceeds to chew him out for it, reminding Goku he was warned about the disease and should have known fighting in his condition, let alone going Super Saiyan would have only made it worse.
- Vegeta gets another one after beating 19 so thoroughly he flips out and tries to make a break for it to which Gero/20 shouts at him that it's enough. As Vegeta rightfully points out in response Gero and 19 had come all that way to destroy the Z-Fighters and it's only "enough" because they're losing.
- When Cell announces the Cell Games, Piccolo wants to train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber after Goku and Gohan leave. Vegeta calls this a waste since the fight with Cell will be beyond anything outside the Saiyans but mockingly allows Piccolo to go first. Although Vegeta was a Jerkass about it as usual he was right that only a Saiyan could beat Cell in the amount of time they had and Piccolo's year-long training didn't amount to nearly as much as the gain received by Goku/Gohan/Vegeta. For a long time no non-Saiyan Z-Fighter approached Cell's level of power let alone surpassed it — and even then Saiyans still have the overall highest potential to get stronger. And it wouldn't be until many years later that a non-Saiyan fighter, ironically Piccolo this time would finally get back up to Vegeta and Goku's level in Super: Super Hero.
- Although Vegeta was harsh with Gohan about getting weaker and how his fight with Dabura was lackluster he made a good point: Gohan was struggling against a foe that seven years ago he wouldn't have had such a problem with and it was in their interests to beat such enemies as quickly and efficiently as possible. In fact, Vegeta's arrogance notwithstanding it's highly probable he could have defeated Dabura with relative ease had he fought instead.
- When Vegeta learns about Goku's Super Saiyan 3 transformation he immediately blows up at him for not using it in their earlier fight. Though it's clear Vegeta's just angry Goku was holding back he makes a good point that Goku could have ended it at any time and simply chose not to (something that directly led to Majin Buu's release). Goku's only defense is that he wanted to save it for an emergency which Vegeta calls out as unconvincing at best.
- Vegeta gets another one when he calls Goku out for leaving his children to die while Kid Buu blows up Earth and choosing to rescue Mr. Satan, Bee and Dende instead. During the entire exchange Goku has nothing to say in his own defense. Of course, Dende, Mr. Satan and Bee proved instrumental to Buu's defeat but no one could have known at the time.
- When Gohan wants to learn martial arts from his father instead of Piccolo the latter states Goku is too soft-hearted to be effective. These concerns prove to be justified when they go into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and Goku initially holds back for fear of hurting his son.
- In Z: Broly — The Legendary Super Saiyan, King Vegeta decides to execute the newborn Broly, viewing him as a threat to due to his Power Level of 10,000. Considering how Ax-Crazy Broly became as an adult coupled with his incredible strength these fears had merit.
- In Z: Bio-Broly, Jaguar Badda desires the fall of Mr. Satan — which he hopes to accomplish by creating Bio-Warriors, including a clone of Broly. This backfires for obvious reasons and his plans are left in ruin.
- In Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, Hatchiyack and his creator Dr. Lychee want revenge for the Saiyans exterminating the former's precursors and the latter's race the Tuffles when they took over Planet Plant and had it renamed in honor of King Vegeta. Unfortunately for the universe the Saiyans were ironically all but wiped out themselves by Frieza. Hatchiyack still carried out Lychee's plan anyway and Lychee's claims the Tuffles were taken advantage of might not be entirely true.
- Like Hatchiyack and Lychee, Baby also wants revenge for the Saiyans exterminating the Tuffles. When confronted about his grudge and told the Saiyans eventually paid the price for their actions he outright states he no longer cares.
- While Zamasu is a Knight Templar with murderous ambitions his overall view on mortals is not entirely unfounded. Frieza's family, Frost and the Saiyans were Planet Looters who committed war crimes to make money and for shits and giggles; Commander Red sought out the Dragon Balls just to gain extra height; Dr. Gero used his great mind to produce deadly androids, two of whom literally ate living beings; and Bibidi and Babidi unleashed Majin Buu on Universe 7 causing the deaths of nearly all the resident Kais and billions of innocents. Zamasu's Fatal Flaw however, is his inability to see that not all mortals are evil by nature.
- His assessment of Universe 10's Barbarians proves sound; his master Gowasu brought him there to demonstrate mortals weren't inherently evil and capable of maturation yet even after a thousand years there was no moral growth to observe in the species.
- He's also right about the gods' inaction against mortals who abuse their gifts as it's specifically stated the lower-ranked universes are that way because the gods didn't intervene when they should have. Sidra's indecision is a major factor in Universe 9 being the biggest Crapsack World of The Multiverse and Beerus let people like Frieza and his clan do what they wanted, even encouraging the massacre of the Saiyans. The manga notes that Beerus really should have dealt with Buu before he killed all but one of Universe 7's Kais (making the Sole Survivor have to deal with the entire place despite being Incompletely Trained) but he took a nap through the whole shebang.
- Much like before Vegeta has quite a few moments of this:
- During the arc of Super corresponding to Z: Resurrection F, Goku tells Vegeta how murdering Captain Ginyu was too extreme; Vegeta says he simply killed someone too dangerous to leave alone. Considering Ginyu is a mercenary who had proven he wouldn't let the heroes be he's got a point there.
- Vegeta becomes angry when Goku plays around with Goku Black instead of killing him when he has the chance. This allows Black to study Goku's fighting style and destroy Future Trunks' Time Machine, giving him the time to become more powerful to where he could challenge Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyan Blue. Also, if Cell's version of the older Trunks' machine hadn't been in Bulma's stash there would have been no way to go to the future to save it again in the first place. His reasoning was mostly because he wanted to destroy Goku Black for hurting Future Trunks and killing Future Bulma but he gets even angrier after these events vindicate him.
- When Future Trunks, having seen the strength of SSJB is prepared to just kick back Vegeta pulls him up by the collar and furiously lays into him for his complacency, remarking Black likely won't be the only threat that comes his way and he should always train to surpass his limits no matter the situation; considering how often threats to Earth and all of Universe 7 have appeared (Majin Buu, Beerus, Frieza, etc.) and virtually all Z-Fighters barring Goku and Vegeta himself have been helpless against them due to no proper training he's clearly speaking from experience. While Bulma calls Vegeta out on his harshness considering Future Trunks' recent Trauma Conga Line, Goku insists it's "how Saiyans work"; Trunks himself quickly takes Vegeta's words to heart, resolving to constantly train and grow stronger.
- He also heavily objects to reviving Frieza to participate in the Tournament of Power on the grounds he's uncontrollable and can't be trusted. He's proven right by Frieza's Inner Monologue to replace Zeno, though ironically enough he ends up being key to the victory of their team and doesn't actually betray them.
- Come Super: Broly, Goku naively believes since Frieza helped them during the Tournament of Power this means he'll no longer be evil and is now their friend. Vegeta openly calls him an idiot, telling Goku point-blank that Frieza will never change and still try to kill them; he's proven right when Frieza comes back to Earth and has Paragus sic Broly on them.
- Universe 7's God of Destruction Beerus is really against Goku's idea of a multiversal tournament because it involves Zeno; he even threatens to vaporize him. However, knowing Zeno is even more casual and apathetic to life than Beerus, destroyed six universes in the past just because something annoyed him and the losers of the upcoming tournament will have their entire universes destroyed it's hard to disagree.
- He also berates Goku for his naive nature, exclaiming it's dangerous to all existence. Remember that Goku spared Frieza, who tried to destroy Earth twice (and succeeds in the latter case; only Whis' Time Master abilities prevented it), his fight-happy nature led to Zamasu's Start of Darkness and ravaging of the future multiverse, etc.
- At the end of the Future Trunks Saga he coldly tells Gowasu to choose his apprentices more carefully. Considering Gowasu proved to be a Horrible Judge of Character in regards to Zamasu, failed to notice his growing darkness until it was (nearly) too late and also told him about the Time Rings and Super Dragon Balls, both of which proved crucial to Zamasu's plans he's not wrong. Though in Gowasu's defense we actually get to see Zamasu before becoming a Supreme Kai and he was actually kind and humble back then.
- When Goku fights Bergamo during the preliminary tournament the latter manipulates the gods into making the former a villain, trying to get Zeno's favor by having the universes be spared if he beats Goku. Right after being defeated Bergamo calls him out on whether or not he cares for the state of the universes considering they are going to be erased when they lose. While Bergamo is underhanded and said it in the middle of a Sore Loser speech he's got a good point about Goku, especially considering the latter is completely nonchalant about it, even challenging the other gods to come at him.
- After being knocked out of the arena Jiren proceeds to insult Toppo for it, even calling him pathetic. While it comes across as assholish to insult his leader being eliminated he has every right to berate him given Toppo was fully willing to sacrifice his principles just for the sake of power and still lost, specifically to someone who stayed true to them to the point Jiren gave a sincere compliment.
- In Super: Broly, King Vegeta banishes Broly to Planet Vampa after seeing how freakishly powerful he is as a child. While Paragus calls him out on this and believes the King only did so out of jealousy his son's power could surpass the Prince, King Vegeta's stated reason is that Broly's potential could drive him mad and make him a threat both to himself and everyone around him. Paragus himself seems to realize the King may have been right once Broly's battle on Earth turns him into a rage-fueled berserker and possible universal threat.
- Granolah, Sole Survivor of the Cerealians desires the death of Frieza and complete extermination of the Saiyans for wiping out his race. However, much like the Tuffles' creations he only gets his chance after the Saiyans were already rendered nearly extinct and he even ignores the possibility of the Saiyans actually suffering under Frieza's rule.
- Hearts wants to eliminate all deities, especially Zeno. After witnessing everything wrong with the Celestial Bureaucracy in Super it's understandable why he would desire such a thing despite his selfishness.
- Aeos, previous Supreme Kai of Time before Chronoa plans on erasing all versions of history but the official one. Given every time-related disaster that's occurred before she's not too far off.
- Chronoa's former pupil Sealas seeks to undo all tragedies of history despite the Kais' particular Alien Non-Interference Clause.
