Hypocrite / Total Drama

Go To

In Total Drama, pretty much every character commits an act of hypocrisy at some point. Notable ones include:

Hosts

  • Chris McLean gets mad at Sierra for blowing up his plane, as well as Duncan blowing up his mansion, yet he loves blowing stuff up. He also calls Scarlett out for trying to blow up/ take over Pahkitew Island despite contaminating Camp Wawanakwa with radioactive toxic waste during Revenge Of The Island and destroying various landmarks throughout the show.
    • During the bonus clip of "No Pain, No Game", he agrees with Izzy about not being able to stand liars. Chris has frequently lied to the contestants, including revealing in the exact same episode that he was lying about contestants never being able to return.

Killer Bass

  • Bridgette despite saying that she hates needless violence and confrontations, preferring to build bridges and not walls, she can get unusually violent with her boyfriend Geoff. Once she force-fed Geoff a sandwich when he insulted her for eating the sandwich and called her overweight. She also whacked Geoff with her surfboard for looking at another girl.
  • It seems that Courtney has a big case of Moral Myopia, not exactly holding herself to the same standards as she does everyone else.
    • Courtney spends the first season ranting about rules and order, before becoming the Big Bad of the next season who attempted murder on various occasions.
    • She spends most of "Phobia Factor" yelling at her teammates for not conquering their fears, but when her own turn comes around she's too scared to even attempt facing it. This incident seems to result in subtle Character Development, as when Bridgette, Duncan, and Geoff later mock Tyler for failing to overcome his fear, Courtney tells them to stop.
    • In Action, Courtney unfairly gets herself put back into the show. Then she complains about how Owen returned "unfairly", but Chris gets it shoved in her face that he came back the same manner as she did, so she's in no position to criticize.
    • In World Tour she flirts with Tyler (Lindsay's boyfriend) to make Duncan jealous right after criticizing Gwen for being a boyfriend-stealer.
      • For that matter, she holds a grudge against Duncan for cheating on her while conveniently ignoring the times Courtney has betrayed Duncan (starting back in "Total Drama Drama Drama Island"), flirted with another guy (Justin) in front of him, and been fairly abusive to him (kicking him regularly in the kiwis, making lists of the ways he needs to change himself, etc.) during their relationship.
    • After giving Gwen a hard time for betraying her friendship, she intends to betray her in All-Stars. It doesn't end well. She also tries to actively conceal the whole kissing fiasco with her, Cameron, and Scott from Gwen, while acknowledging that she's been giving Gwen a hard time about "the whole kissing thing" with Duncan.
  • In Island, Duncan is angered when Trent appears to be cheating on Gwen with Heather and votes him off. Yet, in World Tour, he has no problem kissing Gwen behind Courtney's back and is remorseless when Courtney finds out.
    • Also in Island, his aforementioned "At least I'm straight with people" line but in World Tour he claims that "Faking sadness is a gift" thus disproving that statement.
    • In World Tour, he says about Courtney, "She doesn't have any [loyalty]! Trust a guy who's tried!" This coming from the same guy who kissed another girl behind her back. Though, to be fair, he could be referring to when Courtney almost kissed Justin in Action, or to the time when she abandoned him right after he wrestled an alligator for them.
  • Harold gets upset when Courtney accidentally votes for Leshawna, saying that she's trying to vote off his girlfriend to spite him. Never mind that that's literally what Harold did by rigging the votes to get Courtney eliminated in order to spite Duncan.

Screaming Gophers

  • Cody spends most of Total Drama World Tour freaked out by Sierra's Stalker with a Crush behavior. Doesn't stop him pulling the same stuff with Gwen, including taking pictures of himself holding her while she's asleep. That said, Cody’s behavior towards Gwen is nowhere near as dangerous and disturbing as Sierra’s treatment of Cody.
  • There are a few moments when Heather gets angry at another girl for giving her the karma she deserves, only to be pointed out by somebody else that what she did was mean.
    • In "The Sucky Outdoors", she's mad at Gwen for dumping Harold's red ant farm into her bed after she had read Gwen's diary in front of everyone the previous episode. Trent defends Gwen by pointing Heather's hypocrisy out.
    • In "Hide And Be Sneaky", she wants to take revenge on Leshawna for shredding her clothes, only for Lindsay to point out that it was not nice of Heather to steal Gwen's boyfriend.
    • When Heather found out that Leshawna tricked her team into giving her the spa reward in Action by fake crying, Heather gets mad to the point of almost attacking Leshawna. Heather was the Manipulative Bitch Big Bad in the first season and did stuff that was much worse than simply making sure she gets a prize.
    • Heather helps Sierra with her baldness saying no girl should have to be bald on TV. The sentiment is sweet, but undermines the fact she tried to cut Courtney's hair out to make a new wig in "Action". She only stopped because Chris made her due to being on thin ice with Courtney's lawyers.
  • During the bonus clip of "No Pain, No Game", Izzy says that she can't stand liars. Izzy has fabricated multiple stories about herself.
  • In "Princess Pride", Justin gets mad at Duncan for cheating and tattles on him to Chris (because of his jealousy as he developed a crush on Courtney in this episode). This is the same guy who cheated in "The Big Sleep" by painting eyes on his eyelids to appear awake.
  • After Island, Leshawna was shown to be extremely capable of being underhanded, two-faced, and unreasonable at times, just like plenty of the people she'd claimed moral high ground over.
    • Additionally, in "Broadway, Baby!" she refuses to be the one to swim in the pond for her team, claiming she'd get her hair wet. This is exactly the same reason why Heather refused to jump off the cliff in the very first challenge ever, which Leshawna didn't respect and even threw her off the cliff for.
  • Trent calls Duncan out for quitting in the first episode of World Tour and blowing a chance for a million dollars. This coming from the same guy who threw challenges for his girlfriend's team in the previous season.

Wâneyihtam Maskwak (Confused Bears)

  • Dave complains that all his teammates other than Sky are useless in the first few episodes when he himself complains more than lending a helping hand.
  • Sky says in "A Blast from the Past" that she doesn't like underhanded playing... Cut to three episodes later and she's playing dirty as well. Granted, Jasmine was putting her under pressure to work with the team, but still...
    • She expects her competitors to be sportsmanlike, yet she's prone to becoming a Sore Loser.
