The Home Stage for Super Smash Bros..
- Super Smash Bros. 64: Everyone from the original starting rosternote has a stage related to their respective franchises. In-game, each character is fought on their home stage during single-player mode; this system remains in future games as Classic Mode, one of the primary uses of home stages in the series. The three latter examples are non-playable characters who have stages which can't be played outside 1P mode.
- Mario and Luigi have both Peach's Castle and the unlockable Mushroom Kingdom.note
- Donkey Kong has Congo Jungle.
- Link has Hyrule Castle.
- Samus has Planet Zebes.
- Yoshi has, well, Yoshi's Island.
- Kirby has Dreamland.
- Fox has Sector Z.
- Pikachu and Jigglypuff have Saffron City.
- Metal Mario has his own special stage, Meta Crystal. The following game will use Battlefield and the other games will contempt themselves of one of the "metallized" character's home stages.
- The Fighting Polygon team has the first version of Battlefield (named Duel Zone here).
- Master Hand has the first iteration of Final Destination, which will become a tradition for following installments.
- Game Mod Smash Remix, in addition to adding a multitude of other stages, makes sure to have at least one for every character.
- Ness is given Onett from Melee.
- Captain Falcon is given Mute City from Melee and Big Blue which, despite it sharing a name with a Melee stage, has a new layout and hazard.
- Jigglypuff (and Mewtwo) is given Pokémon Stadium 2 from Brawl and Kalos Pokémon League from For Wii U, later replaced with Gym Leader Castle.
- Falco is given Corneria City, which is a modified version of Lylat Cruise from Brawl, along with Corneria from Melee.
- Ganondorf is given Ganon's Tower from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
- Young Link (and later Sheik) is given Great Bay from Melee, as well as a new stage, Deku Tree.
- Dr. Mario is given a new stage, also called "Dr. Mario".
- Dark Samus has Norfair which, like Big Blue, has nothing in common with the Brawl stage that shares its name.
- Wario has both new stage Kitchen Island and Brawl stage WarioWare.
- Lucas has Oshoe Castle, along with New Pork City — another stage that shares a name but not layout with a main series stage.
- Bowser is given both Bowser's Keep and Bowser Stadium.
- Wolf has Venom from Melee.
- Conker has Windy, a new stage.
- Marth is given Brawl stage Castle Siege.
- Sonic is given new stages Green Hill Zone (uses the Project M layout rather than the original), Casino Night Zone and Metallic Madness.
- Sheik has Gerudo Valley (which also shares a name but not design with a Smash 4 stage).
- Marina has Planet Clancer.
- King Dedede has Mt. Dedede.
- Mad Piano used to be fought on Mad Monster Mansion, until version 1.5.0 introduced the more accurate Big Boo's Haunt.
- Goemon and Ebisumaru have Edo Town.
- Banjo and Kazooie have Spiral Mountain from Ultimate, and also inherited Mad Monster Mansion from Mad Piano.
- Dragon King has two of the three prototype stages showcased in Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games, both also named Dragon King.
- Super Smash Bros. Melee is the point where stages are tied less towards specific characters, and more for the franchises in general, with most of them having two each in this game. However, it still isn't uncommon for the "extra" characters be tied to the secondary stages. In particular, unlockable characters are always fought on their home stages before the player can access them.
- Venom for Falco.
- Termina Bay for Young Link.
- PokéFloats for Jigglypuff.
- Ness and Captain Falcon finally have home stages for themselves by having two each (Onett and Fourside for Ness, and Big Blue and Mute City for Captain Falcon). Samus, Kirby, Yoshi and Donkey Kong also have two stages for themselves.note
- Mario is usually associated with Rainbow Ride, while the rest of the Mario cast is seen on Princess Peach's Castle more often than not.
- The Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch play this straight as they only have Icicle Mountain and Flat Zone associated with them, respectively.
- Averted for Marth and Roy, as Fire Emblem had no stages associated with it at the time. The closest they have is Hyrule Temple, where the sole music track for that series is played.note
- The game's All-Star Mode has each character being assigned one particular home stage. This includes some characters with stages that come from a different series.
- Pichu is given Fourside, standing in for Saffron City from the previous game.
- Ganondorf is given Brinstar Depths, standing in for his castle in Ocarina of Time.
- Young Link, likewise, is given Jungle Japes, standing in for Kokiri Forest.
- Marth is given Fountain of Dreams, standing in for The Dragon's Table.
- Mewtwo is given Battlefield, standing in for the laboratory he was created in.
- And finally, Roy is given Final Destination, which stands in for itself because Melee was his debut appearance and no iconic scenes or locales from his yet-to-be-released game were known at the time.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl:
- Marth (and now Ike) gain a stage associated with Fire Emblem with Castle Siege.
- Pit has Skyworld.
- Wario has WarioWare, Inc.
- Captain Olimar has Distant Planet.
- Lucas has New Pork City.
- Toon Link has Pirate Ship.
- Since they come from the same game, Lucario is usually associated with Spear Pillar.
- Brawl also starts the trend of third parties having their own single stage, with Sonic the Hedgehog having Green Hill Zone and Solid Snake having Shadow Moses Island.
- The Bridge of Eldin represents the new main Zelda stage to go along with Link, Zelda and Ganondorf's new (at the time) Twilight Princess designs.
- Luigi has his own stage with Luigi's Mansion.
- Because R.O.B. doesn't have his own stage, he's associated with the Mario Bros. stage.
- Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U: The game's version of All-Star Mode throws the player into any of the stages from the series one of the characters to be fought comes from, therefore all stages are shared amongst the fighters from their respective series. Some more specific examples introduced in the game are...
