Given that existing as a vampire must change one's sense of morality, so too does it free you from confining social conformity when it comes to sexuality. While vampire media itself has a tendency to use queerness as a way to denote wrongness and fear, the Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement produced What We Do In The Shadows features a cast of characters where almost everyone is pansexual and it's presented as normal aspects of their character rather than it being used to further demonize them.
- S1 Episode 1: Both Nadja and Laszlo have been in intimate love affairs with the Baron.
- S1 Episode 2: Nadja takes a college girl named Jenna under her wing and makes her a vampire. Jenna herself thinks of the exchange as a lesbian encounter with a senior, while Nadja mostly seems to pity Jenna and sees her as an apprentice of sorts for her vampire lifestyle.
- S1 Episode 4: Simon the Devious apparently seduced sailors right alongside Nadja.
- S1 Episode 9: Not only does Nandor make Guillermo uncomfortable by asking him if he's turned on by a duck mask, but Guillermo's friend Jeremy takes a liking to Constantine, the BDSM slave the vampires apparently keep in storage for biannual orgies, and loses his virginity to him.
- Laszlo's done gay porn right alongside straight porn through the 20th century, and his most famous is seemingly "Vampire Tricked in Steam Room" where he ends up "surrounded by chaps" and enjoying himself.
- S2 Episode 8: Guillermo's leaving Nandor and taking another familiar offer plays off like a sad breakup between boyfriends more so than a familiar leaving his master. Once Nandor asks for him to return, he tells Guillermo he's a "great familiar" which is easily the most emotionally open we've seen Nandor be throughout the show.
- In the finale of S2 Nandor finally (though unwittingly?) openly admits that he cares about Guillermo, and that he was really hurt when Guillermo left him again, with only a note.
- Nandor also apparently noticed Guillermo being disgusted by having shared Benjy's "beat-off" pillow and got him a new one. For "beating-off purposes", naturally.
- S2 Episode 9: While being interrogated by Nadja, Laszlo admits that he has indeed slept with Nandor (though at an undisclosed time). Near the end of the episode, they both "finish each other off" in secret behind closed doors.
- Laszlo: "Well, I'm game if you are."
- S3 Episode 2: After shapeshifting into Nandor and talking about his penis, Nadja calls out to Laszlo (while still being in the body of Nandor):
- Do you remember that thing you always wanted to try?
- Implying that Laszlo has had some fantasies about Nandor that he declined.
- Meg from Massive Fitness misintreprets Guillermo talking about himself in the body of Nandor, calling himself a good friend of Nandor. Meg thinks Nandor is in love with Guillermo, and suggests he should admit his feelings.
- in S3 Episode 4 Guillermo begins talking about realizing his sexuality before he is interrupted by Sean returning to the group with poker chips to gamble with.
- In S3 Episode 10, Nandor's proposition to Guillermo to accompany him in his trip around the world is almost word-for-word how he proposed to Gail earlier in the season.
- In the same episode, Guillermo almost calls Nandor "my Nandor" before stopping himself.
- S4 Episode 01: Laszlo tells Nandor there's "room in the back" for him to join while having reunion sex with Nadja on a couch nearby. Nandor says he's "tempted", but declines and choses to continue just watching them.
- S4 Episode 6: Before and during a good part of this episode, Marwa treated Guillermo with cordiality, but never any affection beyond mild gratitude for his help in the wedding preparation. However, during the celebration, she thanks Guillermo very kindly, to the point that she says she doesn't know what she would do without him, kisses him on both cheeks and hugs him tightly. A little before this scene, Nandor confirms with the Djinn that Marwa's wants have been completely altered to conform to his, as per his last wish.
