Crossover

  • Child of the Storm has Harry prone to doing this, given extra effect by his emerald green eyes - the Platonic variant when he's being supportive of someone, which can be deeply reassuring (or just employing a penetrating stare, which can be deeply unnerving), and the Romantic variant with Carol, which is usually at the point where the totally-not-flirting stops... and then never goes anywhere. Until chapter 46 of the sequel.
  • Code Prime: Happens between Lelouch and Kallen in Chapter 30 of R2, as they happily reflect on all the good things that have been happening for the heroes lately. The moment gets ruined soon enough by an amnesiac Cera interrupting them, but it's still made clear that they've all but outright had a Relationship Upgrade by this point.

The DCU

  • Well-Matched: Kate Kane and Sophie Moore have multiple staredowns before their title fight.

  • Here There Be Monsters: In the fifth chapter, Mary Marvel and Freddy Freeman -a.k.a., Captain Marvel, Jr.- gaze at each other for several silent moments before kissing passionately.
The World's Mightiest Girl turned to the World's Mightiest Boy. Both stared deeply at each other and tried to find something to say.
But there really wasn't much left to talk about.
So they fell into each other's arms and kissed, long and hard, while the Earth, the clouds, and over a thousand feet of sky turned beneath them.

Fullmetal Alchemist

  • In Full Circle, Auric and Roy have a battle of wills the first time they meet via this trope, which lasts so long that Alphonse and Havoc start wondering if either of them will ever give up and try herding them away.

Godzilla

  • Abraxas (Hrodvitnon):
    • Viv and San hold each-other's gazes in the Platonic form of this trope when they concile with each-other and when Vivienne is comforting San, in Chapter 5.
    • Mothra gives Viv and San a couple looks when trying to comfort them. It's mostly the Platonic version of this trope, but it also ends up being the Supernatural version when one such gaze gives Viv and San a brief vision of Mothra's imago form, in Chapter 8.

Hetalia: Axis Powers

  • Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità: Germany and Japan held plenty of jealous gazes at each other over Italy.
No one else is allowed to claim him; that thought ran through both of their minds as they glared at each other with a renewed vigor, orbs filled with raging jealousy and intense possessiveness.

Jackie Chan Adventures

  • The Ultimate Evil: Shendu and his eventual Villainous Crush Valerie Payne share one of supernatural variety when she first sees him in his statue form and he pretends to be lifeless. Both of them stare at each other as if they're in a trance; she's mesmerized by how lifelike the "statue" is, while he's fascinated by being looked at so reverently by her. She then attempts to stroke him and causes between them a surge of power, one of the last pieces of the puzzle Shendu needs to figure out they're Others.
She stared at him, straight into his eyes, and Shendu felt something inside of him spark into a flame under her gaze, a heat blazing through him as he marvelled at how no one had dared to look at him so openly before. She looked at him as if he were something beautiful and awe-inspiring, yet gazed into his soul as if he were an open book for her to read.

Lyrical Nanoha

  • Game Theory: This happens between Nanoha and Fate culminating in Nanoha deciding to abandon everyone and everything she had ever known to stay with Fate.

Mass Effect

Neon Genesis Evangelion

  • Advice and Trust: In chapter 1 Shinji and Asuka gaze straight at each other eyes deeply as they talk about their pasts. They can not break contact eye as they open up and realize how alike they are.
  • A Crown of Stars: Used by future Asuka and Shinji at the beginning of the story and frequently for their younger selves after getting together.
  • Evangelion 303: Between Shinji and Asuka in this scene, shortly after a fight and kind-of-reconciliation.
  • HERZ: In chapter 11 Shinji and Asuka did this right before the Final Battle:
Husband and wife nodded and rose from the bench. They looked at each other. There were so many words. Good luck. Be careful. I love you. Come back home safely. So many words. But there were no words as those would have failed them. Looking in each other's eyes, all that could be said and more passed between the two. And then they strode out to face their destinies.
  • Last Child of Krypton:
    • In chapter 2 Shinji and Asuka met for first time and they gazed straight at each other’s eyes for several seconds. Asuka broke eye contact off before he realized she was staring, and Shinji was simultaneously relieved that she was looking away him and wanting to be under her gaze again.
    • In chapter 4 Shinji and Asuka are in the school yard. Shinji is gazing at her and for a moment their stares met. They gazed at each other during seconds before Shinji blushed and looked away.
  • Several instances in Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genocide:
    • In chapter 10, Shinji and Asuka's eyes locked on another when she revealed that she was scared because her synch-ratio had dropped again.
The German redhead seemed to consider his question for an eternity, rolling it in her mind and wondering if she should answer. For the first time in the night, their eyes locked on one another.
    • In chapter 11, after kissing, Shinji and Asuka lock eyes for a while.
When the kiss finally broke they both gasped for air, and locked eyes with each other again.
  • Superwomen of Eva 2: Lone Heir of Krypton: In chapter 12 when they come home back from their no-date, they lock stares several times as they talk, before nearly kissing.
  • In The Second Try Shinji and Asuka do this whenever they have the chance since it's the only way that they can support each other in public without revealing their Secret Relationship.
  • In Thousand Shinji, after destroying Leliel, Shinji and Asuka have celebratory sex. When they’re done, they spend a while gazing into each other’s eyes.
All that was left was to gaze into the eyes of the other, and to see your own eyes superimposed from their point of view.

Others

  • Corrin Reacts: Flora and Corrin share one of these at the end of the Festival two-parter, increasing the Ship Tease between the two.
  • Greenfire: Rarity and Greenfire start doing this as they get more familiar with each other.
  • In the Lost in Time Series, this type of gaze appears twice in chapter thirty - both versions, too, both platonic and romantic. Once between Diego and Terry as they fight Soto's army, locking gazes gratefully after Terry has just saved Diego's life and then time appears to slow for Frank and Claire as he holds the gaze of his darling wife for the last time.
  • Rosario Vampire: Brightest Darkness: Several of the couples in the fic (Tsukune x Moka, Rason x Kurumu, Ahakon x Yukari, etc.) often do this, sometimes even in the middle of a combat situation.
