  • While their relationship would eventually fall apart, Ah Sahm's affection for Penny is genuine, outright calling her the best thing he's found in America since immigrating.
  • Ah Sahm, Young Jun, and Bolo set a rival gang's opium delivery on fire, Ah Sahm takes the time to untie the horses from the cart first.
  • Young Jun's connection with Wankeia, the Native American prostitute he spends the night with. Though she's just a prostitute and they can't even speak to each other, they genuinely connect as two outsiders who don't fully belong anywhere. Wankeia even comes back to save Young Jun during the final battle.
  • The relationship between Lu the saloon owner and his white wife Billie.
    • Lu also hits it off instantly with Ah Sahm, giving him wise advice on finding his way in America as a Chinese immigrant; for his part Ah Sahm shows way more respect to Lu than he did to anyone up until that point in the series.
  • After getting kicked out of the tong, Ah Sahm works as a laborer and has to share a bunk with a worker. When the worker gets sick, he buys him medicine.
  • In Episode 7, a bounty hunter tracks down Officer Lee for killing his cousins, who raped and killed the freed slave he was in love with. After learning his story, Bill and the rest of the Chinatown squad beat him up and chase him off.
  • The relationship between Nellie Davenport and Ah Toy. They start off viewing each other as nuisances, a brothel owner and an anti-prostitution crusader. They then realize that they are both concerned about the safety of Chinese girls and are working to improve their lives. The two start working together and eventually fall in love. Nellie even tries to get into Chinatown during a riot to check on Ah Toy. They end up spending the night together as Ah Toy recovers.
  • Even after being forcibly retired and put under house arrest by Young Jun, Father Jun still shows up to save his son during the riot in "Enter the Dragon". The two later reconcile and part on good terms.
    • The last person Father Jun says goodbye to before embarking on his trip across America is Wang Chao who, in a shocking display of reverence, takes off his top hat and bows deeply to the older man. Considering Wang Chao never gave either Zhing or Mai Ling so much as a nod, it says a lot not only about Father Jun's position in Chinatown but also about Chao's personal respect for him.
  • After quitting the police force due to their failure during the Chinatown riot, Lee gives Bill a You Are Better Than You Think You Are speech.
  • Though they parted on poor terms, Lai is overjoyed to see Ah Toy again in season 3 and is happy working on Nellie's vineyard.
  • Young Jun reuniting with Father Jun in the deportation center.
  • Mai Ling and Li Yong's wedding. A moment where, despite their complicated relationship, Ah Sahm and Mai Ling act like an ordinary brother and sister.
  • Young Jun and Father Jun sitting outside the tong house after the wedding while Father Jun has a lucid moment during his illness.
  • The cops cheering Bill on during his fight with Chief Atwood. They, including Lee, later applaud him when he returns as the new Chief.
  • Father Jun's funeral and Chao's eulogy.
  • Young Jun, Ah Sahm, and Hong share a drink after the funeral. Young Jun feels that his father is prouder of him now than ever before. They also comfort Hong over his breakup with his boyfriend Marcel.
