Heartwarming / The Dragon and the Butterfly Saga

Go To

One half of this crossover involves the burgeoning friendship between a boy and his dragon as they learn more about each other and form a lasting bond. The other half speaks of the power of family and how a home is ultimately not the building but the people who live in it. Combined, the two franchises result in a story with many moments that are very heartwarming.

The Dragon and the Butterfly
  • Antonio's first meeting with Toothless. He absolutely adores the Night Fury and while the dragon is surprised by the treatment (a very far cry from his treatment in Berk), he becomes incredibly fond of the young boy and has no issue playing with him. Indeed, part of the reason he becomes hostile to Luisa is he misunderstands her attempt to rescue her cousin as an attempted attack on Antonio, making the boy stand behind him.
  • The simple fact that Julieta's first instinct on seeing Hiccup's injured condition is to feed him her last arepa, and Hiccup is in tears at the meal.
  • Mirabel's first interaction with Hiccup, where she sees that he is really more like a giant puppy, with Hiccup saying that it's adorable.
  • When Mirabel briefly sulks over being the Muggle Born of Mages, Hiccup states he doesn't mind that she's not gifted, and when she tries to look for any indication of pity or mockery, she only finds understanding.
  • Hiccup's recollection of being an outcast results in him getting a hug from Mirabel, who reassures him that she can understand how it feels to be one.
  • Antonio learning about dragons thanks to Hiccup. The fact that Hiccup can actually teach someone about dragons is touching when you see him thinking about how Gobber felt teaching him, and Antonio being enamored by them makes it a fun experience for both of them. It also endears him to Felix, reminded of how much Antonio loved Toothless.
  • "Bee Prepared" is all about Hiccup trying to help Augustin with his bee problems, working day and night to help make armor to protect him. While Augustin ultimately doesn't wear the final armor, he is sincerely appreciative of Hiccup trying to help him.
    • The reason why he stops wearing the armor? He realizes it gives him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife. Awww...
  • Pepa slowly coming to realize that Toothless really means no harm to her family, and comes to accept Antonio's friendship with the Night Fury. She also finds someone who doesn't mind her sudden mood swings and the weather it brings, spending time with Hiccup under the shade while watching Antonio and Toothless playing.
  • When Antonio receives his gift, Hiccup and Toothless finally have someone who can hold a proper conversation between them. The first thing Toothless tells him after calling him stupid? He loves him. Hiccup can only respond in kind.
  • During Hiccup's "farewell dinner" with the Madrigal Family, he explains to them all in full why he left Berk and they all pitch in listing reasons why he should stay (including Isabela). By the end, Hiccup is moved to tears that he had been accepted as an honorary part of the family as he accepts their invitation to stay as a permanent citizen of the Encanto.
  • When Snotlout wanted to celebrate Hiccup's departure, Stoick immediately tore him a new one. Stoick may not be a perfect father figure, but he still cares for his son.
  • Gobber being the only Viking to see that Hiccup is better off in the Encanto, and giving him his blessing to stay.
  • Julieta inevitably becomes the mother Hiccup never had. He develops the habit of calling her "Mom", he helps her with the cooking, and when she meets his actual mom Valka, the two end up fighting over him.
  • When Bruno has a vision where Hiccup and Mirabel eventually marry and have children, not one Madrigal is against it, having already accepted Hiccup as a member of the family anyway. Even Isabela, who only tolerates him, doesn't protest.
  • Following the above example, when everyone returns from ending the war with the dragons, everyone in Casita Madrigal constantly bugs and prods Hiccup into proposing to Mirabel. Such methods include regaling him about their own marriages, to giving advice to Hiccup in ways to woo Mirabel, to just pulling him aside and demanding why he hasn't asked her yet. Part of his reluctance to marry her right away is from this.
