Heartwarming / The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

Go To

  • While Charles isn't the best father, he does try to bond with Chris. He plays along with his superhero persona, he pretends to be a zombie when Chris shoots him with a nerf gun, and he reassures Chris that while he might not be the best at basketball, he's fantastic at telling stories. Charles even invites Chris to sit with him while watching the game, during which he rests his hand in Chris' hair. This makes the ending all the more heartbreaking when Charles loses his temper and blames Chris for the death of his mother.
  • Chris is so caring towards his father. He'll do the housework, brings him a cold beer when asked, and even cooks him a microwave meal so Charles will actually eat something for a change, rather than just watching the game.
  • One of Captain Spirit's Awesome Things to Do involves finding his secret treasure, which most players would assume to be some kind of toy or gift. However, it's actually revealed to be several photographs of Chris and his mother as well as some comics that she drew of their family spending time together. These mementos serve as a reminder of their previously happy life and Chris openly weeps upon seeing them. After re-burying the treasure, Chris reminisces about how pretty his mother is and remarks on how he misses her smile. Also, counts as a Tear Jerker.
  • Mrs. Reynolds is clearly concerned for Chris. If Chris phones her, then she's genuinely happy to hear from him, and she comes over immediately after hearing Charles fall down drunk. Depending on the various dialogue options, Mrs Reynolds will promise to come back for Chris after she's spoken to her husband, as she's worried about him and what his father might be doing to him.
    • It's also implied that Mr. Reynolds was the one who helped Chris build his tree-house. In fact, Chris mentions that the Reynolds do a lot for him and his father.
  • The ending, where Chris looks over and sees Mrs. Reynolds' grandchildren next door. The younger one smiles and waves at Chris, and his older brother even joins in when Chris waves back. It's lovely to see Chris smile again after being reduced to tears by his father.
    • There's a theory that it's one of the boys next door who has superpowers, rather than Chris. If this is the case, then it's incredibly sweet for them to have saved Chris, a complete stranger, from falling by using their powers. This was ultimately confirmed to be the case in Life Is Strange 2 where it was revealed in Episode 2 that Daniel was the one who saved Chris by using his telekinesis.
