Heartwarming / Space Jam: A New Legacy

Go To

  • The premise of the movie. In the first film, the Looney Tunes recruited Michael Jordan to help them against the MonStars in the "Ultimate Jam." Here, LeBron James' son is kidnapped by the god-like king of cyber-space Al-G Rhythm who will only give Dom back in a basketball game for his freedom. So he gets help from Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes, even the “villainous” ones like Sylvester, Yosemite Sam, and Gossamer.
    • When LeBron finds Bugs, after the initial shock, he is happy to actually be meeting him, and is even gushing with glee to hear Bugs knows who he is.
  • The scene where Lola Bunny assures LeBron that they'll get his son back.
  • Another shot in trailer 2 shows LeBron giving Bugs a huge hug, much like how the viewer likely would if they met Bugs for the first time.
  • A small moment, but when coming up with his fantasy team, LeBron explicitly plans to team up the Iron Giant with his hero, Superman.
    • And related; while it's mostly in the background, the Iron Giant is a commonly focused on cameo character, a clear continuation of Warner Brother's apologetic attitude towards the film's lack of success due to their poor planning.
  • Lola is doing a Race Against the Clock test to become an Amazon warrior and she's left LeBron and Bugs in the dust, hanging from a cliff edge. Then LeBron laments that he can't die this way; he has to save his son. Lola freezes — and rushes back to rescue them, causing her to miss the timer by a few seconds. Then, to top it all off, Wonder Woman declares that she's a true Amazon anyway, because a great warrior isn't just judged by her skill, but by her morals.
    • Also, she seems reluctant to join the team at first — but then there's her excited "Hi, guys!" when she runs to the spaceship to join the rest of the gang, and it is adorable.
    • Her very close yet platonic relationship with Bugs counts as well. This film doesn’t pair them as a couple like the original famously did. It’s never explained why they aren’t together, but after Lola rejoins the Tunes, they show a great deal of care and respect for one another.
  • It's a small detail, but among the many, many cameos you see rushing to the game are Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty, while Bamm-Bamm is running beside the car. Fred manages to pick the kid up and put him safely in the car.
  • When Sylvester announces that he's found their previous Tune Squad leader Michael Jordan to help out, the Tune Squad perks up (and reportedly so did audiences). As Daffy does an entrance speech for MJ, LeBron and the other Tunes are absolutely thrilled. The look of sheer joy on Bugs' face as he awaits a reunion with his old pal is especially touching. Turns out it was just a Hope Spot involving Michael B. Jordan.
    • Even then, B. Jordan still tries to provide inspiration to the Tune Squad even after learning of this.
  • This film shows that Bugs Bunny really does see the other Looney Tunes as his family. Even Lola, his former love interest. He was devastated when they all left Tune Town and used the upcoming basketball game as an excuse to bring them all back to him.
  • LeBron James reconciling with his son Dom and they hug each other. Everyone is touched at this sweet moment, especially Bugs, who is so touched by it that he breaks down into a crying fit.
  • Despite Bugs' death being a massive Tear Jerker, his last moments can leave a warm feeling in your heart, especially with these lines:
    Bugs: How'd I do, coach?
Lola: Bugs, that's the least looney thing you've ever done.
Bugs: You got that right. But taking care of the people you love is fundamental. Right, Doc?
    LeBron: Thank you.
    • The way the rest of the Tunes surround Bugs while he's in the process of getting deleted shows that they see him as family too. Lola cradles him in her arms the whole scene, reminiscent of the first film when she did the same thing after he saves her from being crushed by Monstar Pound. This time, it's cranked up to eleven as he sacrifices himself to save everyone, although he ultimately survives. Even his greatest adversaries/friends like Elmer, Sam and Daffy look devastated.
  • Several sweet moments happen close together when Al-G arrives on Toon World.
  • When the Tune Squad wins, several of the characters hug, including Porky and Taz, and Foghorn and Gossamer (with Daffy squeezed in the middle).
  • Granny gets two when Dom joins the Tune Squad:
    • First, she gives LeBron a fresh jersey for his son, saying she made it just in case.
    • After that, she hugs Sylvester and carries him to the bench.
  • The Porky Pig rap battle has several moments, especially seeing as how Porky tends not to get the respect being the longest-running of the main Looney Tunes would usually imply. First, Daffy (to whom Porky often plays the hapless sidekick, and who tried to blame him for the DCAU incident earlier) chooses him as the first pick for the rap battle, even telling him to "show them who you really are." When the rap begins with Porky's signature stutter, you can see some Tunes in the background show dismay, until the stutter shifts to record scratch vocalizations, where the Tunes then beam in delight and they gleefully fulfill their roles as his backup dancers.
  • How did Dom get the scans of the famous basketball players who end up being the Goon Squad? His dad took him to a charity game they all participated in. Not only did they agree to let him scan them into his game, but also they all seem pretty excited about it. Their play-fighting about who should be first in line and talking about the "upgrades" Dom will need to make is clearly meant to clarify how awesome they think his game is.
  • Bugs Bunny having been revealed to be alive at the end of the film after LeBron drops off Dom at E3 Game Design Camp and bringing the rest of the Tunes for a visit.
