For what it's worth, Rudolph's mother is among the few perfectly kind and accepting of him in all four animated takes of the story. Rudolph's father also accepts him in the 1998 film, and the 1996 adaptation.
An ashamed Rudolph hides his nose under his blanket in front of Santa, only for the latter to sweetly pluck it off again before he makes his fateful request.
After Rudolph returns to the North Pole on Christmas morning, Santa honors his achievement by putting a metal around his head. Before the cartoon ends, Rudolph looks at the viewer and says "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight" as "Silent Night" closes out the cartoon.
