Heartwarming / Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling

Go To

  • The trailer for the Static Cling television movie has one. When Rocko runs into his home, Bev notices and looks very, very happy. It's nice to know that she was missing Rocko all these 20 years.
  • Everything about Rachel Bighead! Throughout the series' original run, Ralph Bighead's predominant characteristic was being tragically, profoundly miserable. Here we see that Rachel was the answer all along, and in her own words, she's finally happy. When she first comes out to Rocko, Filburt and Heffer, you can hear the joy in her voice (well, as much as Joe Murray's comically flat delivery can communicate), happy for herself for making such a profound self-discovery.
"I'm not Ralph anymore. I'm... Rachel."
    • Even though it takes them a second to process this information, Rocko, Filburt and Heffer are all nothing but thrilled for her.
      Heffer: Wow, cool!
      Filbert: That is awesome!
Rocko: Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!
      (Rachel smiles warmly)
    • The fact that everyone in her life accepts this news with no questions or qualms: her mother is happy that her child is more comfortable with herself and Mr. Dupette compliments her shoes when they first meet. Even Mr. Bighead is only angry at first because he's overwhelmed by the abundance of the sudden drastic changes in his life (which include job termination and potential home loss), eventually coming around when she creates a Fatheads episode based on a memory from when she was a toddler, realizing that she's still the same person and embracing her with fatherly pride.
    • The unflinching self-confidence Rachel displays throughout, best shown by her father's rude awakening when they reunite.
      Mr. Bighead: Hello, so-
(trails off when he notices Rachel)
      Rachel: (smiling happily) Hi, dad.
      [...]
Mr. Bighead: Wuh-wuh-What goes on here?? Where's my son??
Rachel: (still perfectly happy) I'm not your son. I'm your daughter. And I'm finally happy.
(Mr. Bighead looks her up and down, trying to compute this, then folds his arms indignantly)
Mr. Bighead: This is crazy! No!
Rachel: (cool as a cucumber) Yes.
      Mr. Bighead: (whiny) Noooooo...
      Rachel: Yeeeessss...
    • When her father initially disapproves of her coming out, she seems more disappointed than depressed, just shrugging it off and going back to her ice cream truck job. She doesn't need anyone's approval to be happy with who she is, and her eventual selfless act of creating the new Fatheads short is an act of love for her father rather than to earn his love.
  • Filburt finding out that his subscribers are his own children, who have now become adults in the 20 years he, Heffer and Rocko were away from Earth.
    • Paula instantly reconnects with Filburt after he went missing for 20 years, and their kids are all grown up too.
  • A bittersweet one, but still heartwarming: the Latin American Spanish dub drops a reference to Rocko's original LA Spanish voice actor, Carlos Íñigo, who passed away in 2017 and had to be replaced. Mr. Bighead at one point says, "Sueltame, dejame ir, ¡Iñigo no me trataba asi!"note
  • As much of a Jerkass and grouch Ed Bighead can be, seeing him being happy with his family at the end puts a smile on your face.
  • The fact that it's Ed Bighead who helps Rocko accept change. It was really sweet considering what their relationship was like in the original show.
  • This little moment from the beginning is cute, when the boys are stuck in space:
Rocko: I wonder if anyone misses us.
Heffer: I would miss you, Rocko.
