It was so nice, they didn’t want to let go of him...

“Whatever happens… in the future… I’ll never stop loving you, I promise”
Asriel

Despite Frisk never experiencing their adventure in the Underground, and despite Asriel ascending into an Evil God with the capacity to cause much destruction upon the humans he hates, the kindness that existed in both of them when they were children still persists to this day.

  • Doubling as a Tear Jerker, Frisk's Adaptational Backstory Change reveals they are an orphan. Despite this, they have a loving aunt and cousin who raised them when their parents died in a car accident. This accident happens to be right next to Mount Ebott. It's good to know that, while Frisk may have come to the mountain for an unhappy reason as a child, there are still people that love them and care for them out on the surface.
    • Ironically, Asriel's selfish sacrifice of the monsters made this possible by wiping out the entire year of their interaction with humanity from existence, allowing him to seamlessly guide Frisk into Ligaya's embrace and ensuring they still have a family.
  • Frisk's binding with Asriel was not born out of any material temptation by the god, or their lust for him. Rather, it was a sacrifice that they made on behalf of Napstablook, trading their freedom for his. 11 years later, and Frisk is still the same compassionate human they were at age 9.
  • For all of his Jerkass tendencies and dismissal of humans as a species, Asriel never directly nor intentionally hurts Frisk, even when provoked, and goes to unusual lengths to accommodate them. This culminates when Frisk slips and falls into Hotland's magma chamber, where the god's first instinct is to fly down and try and catch Frisk. Though he may deny it, deep down Asriel really cares for Frisk.
    • He also never takes sexual advantage of Frisk, and even feigns revulsion by the mere suggestion before his confession. He stops Frisk from stripping when he ordered it as a punishment (on reflex), and does not engage in sex the moment he declares their love even if his Raging Stiffie would be a perfect setup in any Porn with Plot fic.
    • When they do start to engage in sexual activities, Asriel never attempts to actively nor passively force himself on Frisk, and the two remain cognizant of their partner's consent and concerns throughout the activity.
  • In chapter 11, Asriel hosts a birthday party for Frisk, and the gift he provides them is an opulent crown he crafted himself. Sounds like someone wants to crown their queen (or rather, their sovereign).
  • Frisk and Asriel's first hug (pictured). It almost reduces Asriel, who has never been hugged in all his time spent as a god, into a trembling wreck.
Asriel: “I was a child… the last time I had a proper hug… and… it… didn’t occur to me that it would affect me so strongly the way it did.”
    • Fridge Brilliance comes into play when one realizes this last hug may very well be the hug Frisk delivers on the pacifist route of Undertale.
    • The second time they hug, it gets a slightly bigger reaction out of Asriel with silent sobbing.
  • By chapter 13, the cat is finally out of the bag: Asriel has loved Frisk since day 1, but feared the consequences of having a romantic relationship with Frisk until his Love Confession the same chapter. Bonus points when you consider the context of the situation with Undertale. For 11 years and who-knows-how-many timelines, he has been utterly alone. Frisk is the last remaining person Asriel has any connection to. For him, they are his last source of love in the world.
Asriel: “Your forgiving attitude has always made me feel hopeful.”
Frisk: “Good, stay hopeful because I’m here to stay babe, we’ll never be lonely again.”
    Asriel: “...Never?”
    Frisk: “Never, I promise.”
    Asriel: “I promise as well.”
  • Asriel loathes humanity and is disgusted by the thought of turning into one. In spite of this, in chapter 18 he demonstrates a willingness to shapeshift into one so he can go out in public with Frisk. He loves them that much.
  • Chapter 19:
    • Asriel's concern for Frisk's wellbeing.
    • Meeting Sans and Toriel.
    • Frisk's proposal.
  • Frisk's Surprise Pregnancy.
  • In a twisted sense, amidst the horror of Asriel destroying the world, there are two new indications that Asriel was completely genuine in his love for Frisk.
    • First, the fact that he was even willing to reveal such a horrific Awful Truth, something that sever the love relationship for almost anyone, indicates just how much his care for Frisk overpowers his need to possess their love. Asriel never needed to reveal it, and was even discouraged to do so by Frisk.
    • Second, the fact that Frisk's soul was immediately returned to them after he loaded a save file indicated the contract and its terms were real and binding, and not a lightshow he conjured to trick Frisk.
  • In the Growing Pains timeline, what ultimately prevented Flowey from carrying out the plan that turned him back into Asriel in Monster in the Mountain was a song which Frisk sang to them. Once again, Frisk sings another song to prevent Asriel from severing their relationship and doom monsterkind forever.
