Heartwarming / Jeremiah

Go To

    Season 1
  • In "To Sail Beyond the Stars", Kurdy helps a pregnant woman feed herself and give birth and she in turn hides him from goons who try to kill him.
  • "Thieves’ Honor", the Thunder Mountain council vote to only give a light punishment to a man who broke the rules to contact his sister outside of the mountain.
  • In "Mother of Invention", Jeremiah reunites with an old flame, learns he might have a son, and forms an alliance with her while offering to safeguard the art she has saved in an atmosphere-controlled room at Thunder Mountain.
  • In "Ring of Truth", the friendship Jeremiah and Kurdy form with two prostitutes has some surprisingly touching moments as they help each other out throughout the episode in a largely platonic sense (at least compared to most women Jeremiah and Kurdy meet).
  • In Moon in Gemini:
Kurdy and Elizabeth try to establish ties with a black separatist group. After one member insults Elizabeth, Kwame (their leader) apologizes to Kurdy, (comma) but insists their people need to unite and withdraw from the rest of the world. Kurdy talks about how the Big Death killed people of all races, and how the way he saw a lot of people help each other (such as how a white girl nursed him during a time of need) convinces him that there is a real chance for them to form an equal society where race truly doesn't matter. While Kwame doesn't automatically embrace this argument, he is moved by it and ultimately agrees to at least consider an alliance with Thunder Mountain.
  • Erin's seemingly untrustworthy twin sister spends years gathering all of their mother's jewlery from various people who bought it as a present to Erin.
  • In Out of the Ashes
    • In the A plot, Kurdy teaches an illiterate librarian how to read.
    • In the B plot, Jeremiah helps a women in a wheelchair go to a river to scatter her father's ashes, which are blown down to the river in a brief yet beautifully filmed sequence.
  • "A Means to an End" has a scene that is both heartwarming and a tearjerker. Markus's rival Andrew has an opportunity to let a lie that would force Markus out of power stand, but instead reveals the truth, accepts moral responsibility for causing a conflict that left his brother paralyzed, resigns from the council and leaves to take care of his brother. When Lee comments that the best man just won the struggle between Markus and Andrew, Markus solemnly says "And he just left the room."

    Season 2
  • In "The Mysterious Mr. Smith", Smith reveals he is helping a group of traveling chroniclers record the history and heroism of the post-Big Death world. Kurdy (who has been suspicious of Smith lately) is placated, but asks why Smith was telling that group about him. Smith replies that he sees Kurdy as one of the heroes and history-makers of the new world and himself as Kurdy’s scribe.
  • In "The Question", the miracles Markus and Kurdy want to wish for: Markus wants to see Meghan resurrected and uninfected and Kurdy wants to wish away every weapon in the world besides what is needed for sustenance hunting by, in order to stop the upcoming war and preserve the lives of the soldiers he has been training and everyone else in jeopardy.
  • In the ''Interregnum" two-parter:
    • Kurdy raising an American flag to calm his scared recruits, who salute in respectful silence for ten straight minutes, according to Frank the newspaperman.
    • Smith is revealed to have a daughter, makes a touching visit to her, and calls getting daily long-distance updates about how she is the best part of hearing the voice of God.
    • Markus and Erin finally talking through their Unresolved Sexual Tension may be Padding, but there is some genuine sweetness to it.
