Heartwarming / Friday Night Dinner

Go To

  • After a disastrous Christmas dinner with "Horrible Grandma", Jim provides the Goodmans with a rendition of "Silent Night" that makes even the cynical members of the family crack a smile.
  • Jonny and Lisa realise they were a tad premature in getting married and decide to get divorced, but remaining Amicable Exes. To the glee of Jackie, no less.
  • The end of Series Four, where both Jackie and Martin realise the importance of the family home... and promptly begin making it look untidy to potential buyers.
  • The family's concern for Nelly when she has a heart attack though turns out she was faking.
    • In general, just how much the whole family cares for Nelly. Even though she's marrying Mr Morris, who the family unanimously agree is "the worst man in the world," they do their best to maintain a happy disposition for her benefit and try to avoid saying anything bad about him in front of her.
  • Minor one but when Nelly gets locked out of the house in her bikini, when Jackie opens the door, we see that Jim has taken off his shirt for her to wear, even though it's so small it looks more like a scarf.
  • When Horrible Grandma offends Jackie by saying that Martin (her son) used to be tolerable before he met Jackie; Martin (who was previously non-confrontational with his horrible mother), becomes enraged and gives her a very harsh lambasting on her horrible ways, showing that despite him being slightly cowardly when facing her; her insults towards his wife and family crosses a very big line.
  • When Jackie admits she's struggling with the idea of her mother seeing a man after her father's death, Adam and Johnny cheer her up by jokingly suggesting various ways to kill off Grandma's new paramour if he's unlikeable.
  • Tweeness aside, the ending of the Grand Finale, when Jackie is delighted to find she is to be a grandmother, everyone dances (badly)... negated by Martin shattering an expensive piece of crockery and shouting his catchphrase "Shit on it!"
