Heartwarming / Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia

Go To

    Act 1
  • Wakka and Jecht, of all people, have one. After Jecht rebuffs the party and tells them he won't join them, Wakka follows after him alone to practically beg him to join them and be a father to Tidus, implying that since he couldn't have his father growing up, Tidus should have his.
  • Chapter 11 has a couple others. Before proceeding to the final area, the Warrior of Light, Vivi, Rem, and Sazh reflect on how far they've come and how it started with just the four of them and Mog before they recruited everyone else. Later on, when it seems they all might have to fight and defeat Mog, Terra and Eiko keep up hope that they might be able to save him. More than anything, Terra expresses a desire to thank Mog for bringing them all together and giving her the opportunity to meet and befriend so many people.

    Act 2
  • In Arc 2's first chapter, the Type-0 characters start to lose heart when the characters from other games protest the notion of forgetting the dead and wonder what the point of their sacrifice is when the Crystal of Orience won't let anyone remember them. The Warrior of Light, having regained his knowledge of the Stable Time Loop that erased his own journey, offers them guidance and reassurance that their battles will still help everyone, and therefore have meaning even if nobody will know of it.
  • Having spent most of Arc 2, Chapter 2 attempting to persuade Cecil to kill him (going so far as to attack the party in an effort to commit Suicide by Cop), Golbez is surprised to still be alive after Exdeath's attempt to banish him to the Void. Galuf steps forward and gives him a few well-chosen words of wisdom about how to truly achieve atonement.
Galuf: Young man. We're from different worlds, and I don't know what you did. But if you wish to atone... The answer doesn't lie in death. Surrendering to the Void helps no one. If you truly wish to repent, you must live until your time comes.
  • After regaining her memories of her second journey, Yuna gains a refreshingly healthy perspective that she shares with her comrades. When Seymour gets into Firion and Maria's heads about their motives for fighting, Yuna tells them that it's not actually noble or good to shun "negative" emotions like anger and sorrow—it's better to allow yourself to feel those things and deal with them in the moment rather than try to be a Stepford Smiler and explode later.
  • When General Leo arrives, most of the former Returners are eager to persuade him to fight alongside them as they had always wanted to. Nevertheless, they are also conscientious about Cyan's feelings, as his homeland of Doma suffered heavy losses during Leo's siege even before Kefka wiped them out. For his part, Cyan says that he is willing to fight alongside Leo and not allow the past to rule his heart, recalling how he wrote sympathetically to a young woman whose Imperial sweethart died in the war.
  • Ignis comforting Krile when he finds her crying over Galuf, since he understands how painful it is to bear loss and solitude.
  • Everything about Zack's inclusion; ranging from his Lost Chapter, which gives us Cloud's genuine happiness at being reunited with his long-gone best friend, to Act 2 Chapter 7, which features Zack regaining his full memories up until his infamous last stand. The words he has for Cloud upon regaining those memories are sure to tug at some heartstrings.
  • After Leo joins the party, he tells Bartz all about the fine things Gilgamesh had been saying about him, making it clear that Gilgamesh wants nothing more than to be Bartz's true friend. It takes Bartz by surprise, especially after hearing that Gilgamesh would give his life for him.
  • Sazh, Basch, and Faris are horrified when they learn the extent of Class Zero's status as Child Soldiers. When Class Zero recovers their memories of dying and try to put on a brave face, the three of them launch into a speech about being there to support the kids, despite the fact that they're adults and the cadets might have a hard time showing their true feelings because of that. Sazh then declares that, in this world, Class Zero is more than just a weapon, and for the first time in their lives they can have adults to rely on.
    • The same chapter's resolution sees Class Zero trying to find something to enjoy outside of war. King reveals his Hidden Depths interest in music, so Jack says they should start a band and Eiko can teach them to play all the instruments on the airship. Machina just says he wants to spend as much time with his classmates as he can, so Rem reminds him to go take care of the chocobo Chichiri with Ace before the latter chews him out for being late. Ciaran asks Ace if he's happy now, and Ace says he is because this is what his classmates chose and if he ever needs to he can take his frustrations out on Machina and they can work things out together.

    Act 3
  • Tidus reflects on the growth of his relationship with Jecht, basically coming to the conclusion that Parents Are People, in order to help Ceodore feel better about living up to his parents.
  • Act 3, Chapter 2: After the whole party is scattered, Terra finds herself alone on the recreated Solitary Island. She soon runs into Celes, who is also alone and devastated that Locke broke his promise and left her behind just a few minutes earlier to find his treasure. Though she's upset at Locke, Terra promises to protect Celes in his stead, and reaffirms their friendship by saying they'll work together to get off of the island and find the rest of their friends. Celes is touched by this and says she'll protect Terra too.
  • After learning that Locke left his friends, a disgusted Gabranth decides to, essentially, become an FF6 character and protect the others in his stead. Despite realizing he got more than he bargained for with Wild Child Gau, Gabranth doesn't chase him off and eventually forms an Odd Friendship with him, and one is frequently seen in cutscenes with the other from then on.
  • Krile follows Auron and gets him to open up about his emotional turmoil by pointing out that despite their obvious differences, they both had to suffer the same kind of trauma. For Auron, it was having to lose both Jecht and Braska to a Heroic Sacrifice he learned was pointless, and for Krile, it was having to watch Galuf die to save her and the others. And both of them were entrusted with finishing what their dead loved ones had started. When Krile talks freely about how hard it was for her to go on, Auron is able to acknowledge that his success in destroying the system that killed his friends didn't take away his sorrow over not being able to save them in the first place.
  • Braska and Yuna finally reunite in Act 3, Chapter 8. Upon first seeing him, even after being prepared for the possibility, Yuna is rendered speechless. And then Jecht and Auron introduce Braska to his daughter...
    • Braska, Jecht, and Auron later get their time when Auron gets to apologize to them both for what he viewed as failing them, but neither Braska nor Jecht saw it that way and thank him for watching over their children.
    • The trio gets their chance to shine in battle alongside Yuna and her generation of guardians, and all parties are overjoyed at the opportunity this world has given them for this to happen.
    • Braska marvels at Yuna's growth and all the things she has accomplished, and tells her that he is so proud of her.
  • After rescuing her from Ultimecia's clutches, Noctis and Lunafreya finally get to reunite in Act 3, Chapter 9, and this time, they can be together for real and not in death.

    Act 4
  • The culmination of Kadaj's Character Arc. Realizing at last that Jenova isn't in this world and there's no way he can reunite with her, he finally lets go of "Mother" and his Hazy-Feel Turn becomes a genuine Heel–Face Turn, and he stands alongside the heroes to stop Sephiroth and Weiss. Subsequent scenes have him accept that he has to live for himself now and find his own direction in life without his Mother to guide him.
    • His Intersecting Will shows him bonding with other characters, particularly the heroes of Final Fantasy II and Class Zero, and while he initially rejects the idea that Family of Choice is possible, he gradually understands and accepts that they truly are family to each other and are as close as him and his brothers regardless of not being biological siblings.
  • Xande's Character Arc has him finally realize that maybe there really was more meaning behind Noah's gift of mortality than he thought, and he decides to continue living and see what the possibilities of a mortal life can bring. He also has a Hazy-Feel Turn when he helps the heroes stop the Emperor from corrupting and taking control of the III version of The Lifestream, because even Xande thinks corrupting it is wrong.

    Lost Chapters & Intersecting Wills
  • "From Zanarkand" finally sees Yuna and Tidus reuniting, and its palatable how much the two genuinely missed one another and how happy they are to have finally found each other again.
  • Zidane and Garnet have a similar moment when they reunite, with him kneeling and pledging to "kidnap" her again.
  • Cecil and Rosa follow suit when they finally reunite, with the added bonus of Eiko noticing Kain's feelings so she goes on patrol with him to keep him company since she knows how he feels.
  • In keeping with the couples reuniting, when Rinoa finally joins the group. She's talking with her friends from her world when she and Squall see each other from across the field and run to meet each other and the music stops. Cue "Eyes On Me" when they come face to face, and Squall is quite open about how much he missed her and is relieved to see her, even if he is concerned about her safety in this world.
  • The final cutscene of the "Where to Go" event has Rinoa meeting up with Terra, Layle, Vanille, and Prishe. All of them possess powerful abilities that make them objects of fear and hatred at home, and they themselves fear being overtaken by those powers. Terra relates her own struggle to bring herself under control and how it was through her friends' help that she learned to stop fearing them, while Prishe says that having even one person believe in you can be enough. Layle and Vanille say that it's best to accept the power as a part of yourself rather than shunning it, and Rinoa decides she's going to take their advice to heart.
  • Edgar starts to doubt himself with how he's handling the Returners in Sabin's Lost Chapter, though the latter seems to reaffirm his motivation when he brings up their party members from the original FF6 and among other beliefs. Upon a number of their said party members walking in on them, Sabin outright says to him "look, we've got friends! Cheer up!"
  • Palom's Lost Chapter includes a scene where Palom and Yuri run off to explore, worrying Tifa and Chelinka when they go missing. After Tifa and Chelinka scold them for running off and worrying them, Palom notes that the twins' relationship mirrors his own with his twin sister. After that, he reveals that he misses Porom and just wants to see her again.
  • Aerith's Lost Chapter includes a scene where Raijin and Eiko are picking flowers together and it's adorable. Eiko says she wants to make flower necklaces for everyone, and when Seifer antagonizes them Aerith says they should make one for him, too.
  • Auron's Lost Chapter finally has Auron and Jecht properly reunite as allies, where Jecht finally gets to thank him for looking after Tidus. Yang, Laguna, Sazh, and Cyan all approach them after, noting how strong the friendship between the two of them is especially since it goes back so long and the two get to talk about how much has changed since then.
  • Gilgamesh of all people gets one of these in his special event, where he shows that he comes from later in the events of Final Fantasy 5 than its heroes do... so he tries to subtly (well, subtly for him) hint to them to take good care of and spend as much time as they can with Galuf while they still have a chance, and expresses admiration for Galuf's courage.
  • In Prompto's event, Technophobe Cyan hears about Prompto's camera and how people can take pictures of their family. He is clearly wishing he could use the tech to carry around a picture of his family.
  • In Gau's Lost Chapter, it's obvious to the rest of the party how much Gau looks up to Cyan and is comforted by his presence. Gau admits to being scared when he got separated from the party in this new world and only became happy again when he found his friends, showing that his allies have become an important part of his life after spending his childhood completely alone. It's almost like he and Cyan are a Replacement Goldfish for each other, too.
  • Aerith's Intersecting Wills chapter, "A Bouquet of Thoughts and Feelings," is full of them. It chronicles her events in finding different kinds of flowers important to the characters throughout the series and bringing them to everyone to make them all happy. These include:
    • Sylleblossoms from Tenebrae for Noct and Luna, who finally get to admire them together in person for the first time.
    • A bouquet of flowers for Squall. Seifer surprisingly remembered his dream to "fill the world with flowers" (that he optionally admitted to in the torture scene), but Squall says it was something he only thought up in the moment.
    • Firion had a memory of liking particular flowers (likely wild roses), but his memory of them didn't come back even when Rinoa brought them to her favorite flower field.
    • Galbana lilies for Vaan, his brother's favorite flowers.
    • The flowers from the opera for Celes, the flowers (originally made of paper, but now made real) Cyan made when he wrote letters to the girl grieving her lost lover, long-forgotten flowers from Oerba for Fang and Vanille, Nymeia lilies for Alphinaud that they left in memory of Ysayle, and moon lilies for Lyse that they left in memory of Moenbryda.
    • Finally, a bouquet for Cissnei, who tries to understand Aerith's connection to flowers throughout the story, and becomes closer with Aerith as a result. Also, the Turks surprised Aerith with a cart they got from Zack to help carry all of the flowers back to the airship.
  • Kuja's Intersecting Wills finally has him willingly going along with the party for a normal investigation of a new area, and consists of scenes such as him teaching Laguna, Raijin, and Bartz about what it means to be elegant and cultured. At one point, Laguna gets lost, and when they find his gun in the presence of a giant monster, they all assume the worst... and Kuja is pissed, and gets ready to avenge Laguna right then and there until Laguna finds his way back to them. Afterward, this culminates in Laguna expressing friendship to Laguna and offering him some of the fruit they found, which Kuja accepts.
  • Reks' Lost Chapter and debut into the game sees him finally reuniting with his brother Vaan. Although Vaan has a hard time speaking to him at first, Reks gets to reunite with Basch and Penelo, learning about all of the things Vaan has accomplished. Ashe introduces herself to Reks and takes responsibility for the brothers' circumstances, thanking him for his service, and Reks is honored by it. When Reks and Vaan finally have their talk, Gabranth appears and explains who he is, and despite everything Reks shows him no hostility. Reks learns about Vaan's aspirations to become a sky pirate and asks for a ride on the airship, and Vaan complies — leading Setzer and the others to bemoan the theft of the airship and muse that Reks may have more in common with his brother than anyone thought, now that he has no responsibilities to protect him by joining the army. Rather than chasing after them, Basch tells the others to let them enjoy this bonding moment together. All of this together serves to characterize Reks more than he got in XII, fleshing him out more.
