Heartwarming / Brassed Off

• The entire band, some without instruments, turn up outside Danny's hospital to play Danny Boy. Andy is whistling instead of playing his tenor horn. When the nurse comes out, she passes on a message from Danny: "he says tenor horn is too soft".
• Danny seeing Phil in hospital and realising just how much Phil has lost as a result of the strike.
  Nurse: Is this man bothering you?
  Phil: Course he is. He's me dad.
• Phil is sitting by the canal with a big red welt around his neck after his attempted suicide by hanging when Andy, Harry, Ernie and Jim turn up. Danny's in hospital, the pit's going to close, the band is on the point of breaking up because none of them have the heart to rehearse.
  Andy: What are you up to?
  Phil: Feeding the fucking ducks, what's it look like?
  Harry: We heard about, er... We were on our way to hospital to see you. Hey, and your dad.
  Phil: He'd be dead chuffed with a visit from you lot. I tell you, if he were up and about, we'd all be in intensive bloody care.
  Harry: Oh, right. You told him. Maybe we'll visit him next week then.
  Andy: You coming for a pint, mate?
  Phil: Drink with scabs, do you? I voted for t'money, you know that?
  [Uncomfortable pause. Jim is clearly wrestling with himself]
  Jim: ...Come on, Phil lad, stop being a bloody drama queen and come and have a wet with us. Anyway, there's enough bloody rubbish in this canal already.
• The finale, with Sandra showing up in the audience with her and Phil's baby and giving him an encouraging smile—and then Danny showing up too, which gives Harry, Phil and the entire band an extra boost.
