Heartwarming / Batman (1989)

  • A blink and you miss it moment, but after the Joker assassinates Benny in the film and drives away. Waving at a bewildered Bruce who'd last seen him drop into the chemical vat as Batman, Knox shouts for Bruce to get down so he wouldn't get shot in the gunfire. Knox may not like Bruce, but at least he isn't that much of a jerk to him.
    • Later when he finds an archived newspaper front page with Bruce witnessing his parents' murder as a child, he sympathizes and asks Vicki what something like that would do to a kid.
    • This also allows Vicki to put two and two together and realize that Batman IS Bruce Wayne, and goes back to the Batcave to beg Bruce/Batman to let her in.
  • Bizarrely, the Joker saying if anyone calls Vicky a beast, he'll rip their lungs out.
  • Bruce, Vicki and Alfred sharing dinner in the kitchen, with Alfred finishing a story from Bruce's childhood. It's a shame we don't see more of that dinner in the film.
  • When Vicki sees the Bat-Signal in the sky, she walks, then turns to see Alfred standing by Bruce's limo.
Alfred: I thought champagne would be in order, ma'am.
    Vicki: Hi, Alfred.
Alfred: Mr. Wayne told me to tell you that he might be a little late.
Vicki: (smiling) I'm not a bit surprised.
  • Alfred, though at the ready to assist Bruce with being Batman out of a strong loyalty to both him and his late parents, takes every effort to talk him out of carrying out his plans as Batman and try to convince him to lead a happier life.
Bruce: Something on your mind, Alfred?
Alfred: I have no wish to spend my few remaining years grieving for the loss of old friends. Or their sons.
  • Throughout the whole movie, the police and City Hall have no faith in Batman, and see him as just as much a danger as the Joker. But at the end, after he's proven his worth, they hold a press conference where they officially clear his name and welcome his help in the future.
Harvey Dent: We received a letter from Batman. "Please inform the citizens of Gotham, Gotham City has earned herself a rest from crime. But if the forces of evil should rise again, to cast a shadow on the heart of the city, Call me."
Knox: Question: How do we call him?
Commissioner Gordon: He gave us a signal.
  • The reason Bruce was keeping a bat in a cage? According to the novelization, it had injured its wing and he was nursing it back to health.
