Heartwarming / Apple & Onion

Go To

  • Onion's completely unashamed crush on French Fry in the pilot episode is pretty adorable.
    • Also from the pilot episode, the duo's friendship with Beej, the Gentle Giant beef jerky they meet in jail.
  • From the show's first episode- when Onion is about to move to America to start a new life, he expresses interest in making new friends. His father replies with a completely sincere "What do you need new friends for? You have us!"
    • Also from the first episode, Apple's stream of totally nonchalant and spontaneous good deeds- such as giving a bacon woman his ice cream when she's overheating, retrieving a basketball for some kids, and instilling confidence in a street artist. He gets his Karmic Jackpot when all the people he helped return the favor to help get his backpack.
    • Apple and Onion meeting each other by chance in the shoe store. Both of them are down on their luck, but both happen to overhear the other quietly singing a song taught to them by their parents. From here they strike up their first conversation.
  • The episode "The Perfect Team," in which Apple adopts a cat and absolutely adores it. In the episode's climax, Onion saves the cat's life, and the cat makes its way back to its original owner, a kindly old woman who lives in their building, who tells the boys that they can visit her cat anytime.
  • From the episode "Falafel's Fun Day," Apple and Onion bonding with their landlord over their feelings of homesickness and missing their families, being immigrants themselves. The episode ends with the three of them watching Falafel's Persian soap opera, (something that Falafel is implied to use to feel closer to home, as the show is in his native tongue.)
  • From the episode "Tips," Apple and Onion giving all of their tips to the overworked cafe employee and his mother, so they can go on a hot air balloon ride.
  • From the episode "4 on 1," the flashback of Onion's father praising a (very VERY tiny) toddler-aged Onion when he's playing basketball. He also refers to his son as "Sonion." Awww.
  • The duo having a My God, What Have I Done? moment and helping the security guard during the episode "Movie Premier."
  • The duo cheering up a depressed Pancake in episode 9, with Apple sacrificing his wish to find his lost shoe for one that is to make her happy again.
Pancake: My dad would have liked you guys.
    • From the beginning of this episode, Onion tells Apple the story of how he came to believe in wishing upon shooting stars. We see a flashback of a young Onion being served pizza with mushrooms on it. He sees a shooting star, closes his eyes, and says "I wish for no mushrooms" repeatedly. As his eyes are closed, his parents pluck all the mushrooms off his pizza, and when he opens his eyes, all of the mushrooms are gone. It shows the adorable naivete of Onion, as well as his parents just being sweet.
  • Apple and Onion rescuing several baby ducks in Episode 10, “Block Party” then having a party with their friends. Also the parent duck, the main antagonist in the episode is lovable in the end because in spite of all the hilarious attacks it makes on Apple and Onion, it forgives them; Apple especially who received the brunt of the duck’s antics.
  • "Burger's Trampoline" has the duo getting Burger to reconcile with their other friends, after having a Jerkass Realization of their own, and all six of them having fun on his trampoline.
  • "Good Job": Falafel is feeling down because none of the tenants appreciate his hard work keeping the apartment working; all he wants is for someone to say "good job." Apple and Onion's attempts to help only make things worse, so Falafel resolves to quit and leave the apartment building. But as he boards the elevator he overhears the tenants talking about the great day they've had, indirectly because of his hard work: Lollipop got to hear her grandson for the first time in months because Falafel got her phone fixed; Chicken Drumstick, who was feeling depressed, found the Best Salesman award that Falafel cleaned while fixing his TV and gets his confidence back; and Samosa did better at her job due to Falafel fixing her wi-fi. Although none of them said it directly, Falafel finally got his "good job" after all.
