Warning: Spoilers are unmarked

  • Any scene involving Siegfried and Mrs Hall confiding in and/or supporting each other:
    • In the Series 1 Christmas Special, Mrs Hall is devastated to find out that her estranged son isn't coming for Christmas after all. When Siegfried learns about her distress, it would not be unfair to expect him to handle the situation clumsily, given his frankly terrible track record in the dealing-with-people department. But instead Siegfried simply goes to join her in church, reaches out to take her hand, and joins her in singing carols, even gently taking the hymnal with his free hand so she can wipe her teary eyes. The way she clutches his hand in hers makes it abundantly clear that his response was perfect, and it is easily the single most adorable moment of the whole first series.
    • In the Series 2 Christmas Special, when Siegfried finds out that that Tristan has passed with distinction, the first person he turns to is Mrs Hall, brimming with tears of pride.
    • In Series 3, Episode 3, Mrs Hall senses that something's bugging Siegfried, but she can't work out what it is. Eventually Siegfried confides in her (of his own volition) that one of his friends from World War I committed suicide a week ago, and Siegfried has been trying to work out from his friend's last letter whether there was any warning sign that he missed. Mrs Hall's response is simply to grasp Siegfried's hand and say, "Oh, Siegfried".
    • In Series 3, Episode 5, when Mrs Hall comes back to Skeldale House after meeting with her son, Siegfried tells her with absolute sincerity that he cannot express how grateful they all are to her. There is a lot more feeling behind these words than just a "thank you" from an employer to an employee. Mrs Hall's happy reaction confirms that she understands the unstated reality behind Siegfried's words.
    • In Series 3, Episode 6, Siegfried has every intention of sending the stray spaniel Dash to live with Mrs Pumphrey, because Skeldale doesn't need another mouth to feed — especially with war on the horizon — and he knows they can't keep every stray animal they come across. But then he takes one look at Audrey's face when she's saying goodbye to the dog, realises just how strongly the two have bonded, and crumples like wet tissue paper. From then on, Dash is very much Audrey's dog.
  • James and Helen have one of the most adorably supportive, wholesome, romantic relationships on television.
    • We all knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less adorable when James finally says it:
James: [to Helen] I'm not afraid to say it. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, here in the Dales.
    • When the normally reserved Helen makes her own feelings for James abundantly clear after a passionate speech describing how much he's done for the people of Darrowby:
Helen: [to James' parents] You should be so proud of him. I certainly am. And I love him, with all my heart.
    • Mr Alderson giving James his late wife's wedding ring to propose to Helen with.
    • On the day before their wedding, James admitting to Helen that he fell in love with her the first moment he saw her.
James: The first time I ever saw you, I was so distracted I got off the bus in the middle of nowhere.
Helen: I remember wondering what you were up to!
James: I never imagined this is where we'd end up.
      Helen: [knowingly] Yes, you did.
James: [beaming] Yes. I did. [he kisses her]
    • The most adorable and heartwarming thing about James and Helen's wedding isn't that James has, in typical James fashion, memorised his vows because he's so excited to marry Helen. It's that Helen knew exactly what he was going to do, and then did the same herself.
    • Helen's ferocious defense of James to the Ministry of Agriculture. Nobody disrespects Helen Herriot's husband.
  • Jess resting her head on James's shoulder in the car, featured in both the British and American trailers, was likely a big draw for new viewers to the series who were unfamiliar with the books or original series.
  • Siegfried's gentle kindness to James in the wake of his having to put down Andante. It really shows the true depths of understanding Siegfried has for his young colleague, as well as how deeply Siegfried himself cares for his patients and for James himself.
  • In the Series 3 Christmas Special, Siegfried and Tristan finally saying the words "I love you" to one another. And, later, Siegfried hugging Tristan and saying how proud of him he is when Tristan is leaving for his RAVC service.
  • Siegfried's deadly serious tone and expression when he tells Helen, "Everyone under this roof is in my care." Skeldale truly is a family, and Siegfried will protect his own.
