• Was Black Phillip literally the Devil in the form of a goat or was he a normal goat who became possessed by the Devil at some point?
  • The latter, almost certainly. It's doubtful that the Devil would care to have pretended to be a normal goat 24/7 and most likely possessed Black Phillip whenever it suited him.
  • The Devil wouldn't need to pretend to be the goat 24/7, specially given how Black Phillip might not even have been with the family before moving to the woods. The fact that it shapeshifts into a human form at the end adds more credency to it being Satan in animal form - which is what Thomasin literally calls him at one point.
