- If Little Creek is Lakota, why does his village look like it's in Yosemite? His tribe lived hundreds of miles east of there.
- With the westward expansion of white settlers, some tribes relocated by choice in an effort to stay away from whites and out of reservations. Although many of the Sioux tried to head north to Canada, some fled westward in hopes of staying one step ahead of the whites. It did not end as well for them as it did for Little Creek and his tribe.
- When the train begins to fall, why does Spirit not run with the other horses to his freedom? Instead, he goes behind a falling train and risks his life.
- Because the people there were trying to catch him and one was pointing a gun at him; running behind the train for cover would seem the best idea in the heat of the moment. He didn't know it was was gonna fall over.
