Headscratchers / Rune Factory 5

Go To

  • When historical events happened in Rune Factory 5 in general is ornery. For example, dwarves age slower than humans. Doug is shown show looking no more than 5-10 human-years older than in Rune Factory 4, despite decades passing between games. With that being said, there is an event where Yuki and Simone, two humans, reminisce about Darroch and mentioned watching Darroch grow from a small child into an adult. In the same event, Livia chimes in and also reminisces about Darroch's childhood. If Doug only aged about 10 years between Rune Factory 4 and Rune Factory 5, then it doesn't make a lot of sense that Yuki and especially Simone, who looks much younger and has a young child, would have lived long enough to watch a young dwarf grow into full adulthood unless all dwarves age differently, somehow. As for Livia, Livia was unsealed when the protagonist and Priscilla were children, which was less than 20-30 years ago or less. She would have probably still been sealed when Darroch was a child.
  • Another piece of dialogue states that enough time has passed since the fall of the Sechs Empire that no one remember the former's empire's boundaries, despite the player seeing multiple people that were still alive during the Sech's Empire and would remember it's general boarders, especially since Doug, a character from Rune Factory 4, lived in Sechs Empire and acted as a spy for it. Cut dialogue from Terry has him mentioning that he grew up in, lived in, and remembers life in the Sech's Empire, so other humans would have also been alive while the empire existed. There is no reason to think that there are no maps from when the Sechs Empire was around, either.
  • Despite the protagonist saving Priscilla's life when they were both children, no one in town remembers the protagonist at all.
    • Priscilla's love story reveals that after saving Priscilla, the protagonist disappeared. Priscilla writes a letter to her parents asking if they know her savior's identity, to which her dad replies they don't.
  • The day your twins are born, the first child offers to watch the house while you and your spouse go to the clinic for labor. Why not bring the child along?
  • The beginning of the game has your amnesiac protagonist injured from saving Hina. Why take them to SEED and not the clinic?
    • Priscila and Hina were there and Lucy's first reaction upon seeing someone faint was to bring to the first place she thought she could get help. While the logical (and practical) solution would get them to the clinic, people generally don't act logically in stressful situations. Additionally Lucy outright states she didn't trust Ares/Alice, and had no idea if they were dangerous or not, so taking them to the SEED Silo and calling Simone was the safest option for everyone involved.
    • A better question is why they dressed the main character in the SEED Ranger uniform before the main character was even offered the position. The protagonist goes from wearing casual clothing to the ranger uniform between passing out and waking up at the Silo.
      • Lucy or Priscilla mentioned their clothing was damaged and gave them a fresh outfit.
  • When Beatrice and Reinhard arrive, Beatrice doesn't know she needs to wave her hand over the soul sphere because the capital's soul sphere doesn't require it. Did she not watch Reinhard during his process?
    • Beatrice is shown to be rather distracted at times or may have thought because she was royalty (even though she was trying to keep it a secret) she didn't need to put her hand close to it.
  • How did Misasagi get separated from Hina in Whispering Woods and turn into a monster?
    • A monster attack could've been the cause. Or when Misasagi felt something wrong, when she was about to transform, she might've just told Hina to run away.
  • Lucas lost his memories at Thundering Wastes but claims he woke up in Meline Crystal Caverns.
    • A theory is that Lucas could've opened a portal to Meline Crystal Caverns before being hit by something which messed up his memories.
  • Where was Livia hiding during Gideon's visit? The silo's not big enough that she wouldn't get found and she couldn't have gone outside since her human form is weak and can't sustain her dragon form longer than a few minutes and she's trying to hide it from Gideon anyway.
    • Her human form is weak, but not weak enough that she can't go for walk if needed. Alternatively, she hid in one of the crates or barrels around the Silo.
  • Fuuka was in the restaurant with Elsje when she "disappeared". Couldn't she come out to let Priscilla know there was no need to worry?
  • Fuuka isn't the only were-animal in town. If anyone could explain dating and romance to her, then it should have been someone who speaks her native tongue, not Livia, since Fuuka should (I hope) know what dating and romance are called in Were-Animal language. As is, the game gives the impression that she doesn't understand the concepts of dating and romance (which raises questions about Fuuka's maturity and intelligence, as adults tend to understand those ideas on a surface level at least), rather than just not knowing what those words mean in another language.
  • The game implies a close connection between were-animals and monsters (probably since there are no animals in Rune Factory, just monsters). Fuuka in the original Japanese spoke in howls, purrs, and barks and the the protagonist is able to understand the farm dragons, which are probably some type of monster like other dragons, because they communicate just like Fuuka. The were-animals we see have monster-like traits, such as tails, fur, and horns, and the name "were-animal" is reminiscent of werewolf, hinting at were-animals being able to shift into monsters. The thing is, the game does not go much pass implying. It's unclear which were-animals can transform (is it just Misasagi or can all of them do it?), how they exactly transform, what triggers the transformation (is it voluntary or does something need to cause it?), whether were-animals are in control in monster form, whether were-animals need to be beaten out of monster-form or can shift back into their humanoid forms on their own, etc.
  • The Wind Farm Dragon somehow helps transport the player from the depths of the Belpha Ruins. How did it get all of the way down there (the protagonist was at least 5 levels down and the whole dungeon is underground), why was it down there in the first place, and how did it get the protagonist out considering how the dragon is much, much bigger than the corridors of dungeon would allow?
