• What is up with Marvin getting punished by Time Out or even with a spanking (in the early years of the strip)? Marvin is a baby. Let me repeat that...A BABY! It's one thing to punish a child or a teenager who should know better than to break rules or do something unsafe. A baby like Marvin still lacks the capacity for moral judgement.
• Two comic strips in 1987 show Marvin chewing bubble gum and then blowing an enormous bubble. That brings up two questions: first, how did a baby learn how to blow bubble gum? Second, how did Marvin even chew that bubble gum? He is a baby and doesn't even have teeth!
