Headscratchers / Elmo Saves Christmas

Go To

  • How does Maya Angelou know the story if the timeline was reset?
    • Maybe Elmo told her, as he apparently still remembers it. This is further implied as she asked Telly, Zoe and Baby Bear if Elmo ever told the story to them.
  • How does the Moo-Bunny still exist after the timeline was reset?
    • It may very well have been inside the sleigh that Elmo and Lightning brought back over.
    • It's also possible that Santa is an immensely powerful magical being, maybe the Anthropomorphic Personification of Christmas Spirit itself, who exists beyond the limits of spacetime and is unaffected by changes in continuity. He appears to remember how he almost retired in the Christmas every day timeline after Elmo returns to Sesame Street Proper.
  • Why didn't everyone just stop having Christmas if they were so tired of it?
    • Because then there wouldn’t be a plot. Also, the snowglobe likely imposed some magic that prevented them from not having Christmas, hence why it was daily.
  • How did the newspeople know it was going to be Christmas again? Surely Santa didn't call the media and tell them. Even if he did why would they believe him?
    • In order for it to be Christmas again, everyone would have to know in order to celebrate it. Thus, the newspeople knew for the same reason the civilians did; it was part of making the wish come true.
  • What if Elmo chose the pink bear in the beginning instead of the magic snow globe?
    • Then, Elmo wouldn’t have made the wish and the plot would be different.
  • Why is It's a Wonderful Life the only movie that plays continuously on every TV channel? There are many, many other Christmas movies and TV specials.
    • This particular movie was chosen most likely because it's a very G-rated movie for a very G-rated Sesame Street special. The fact that it's the only movie that plays deliberately emphasizes how annoyingly (and ultimately destructively) repetitive the concept of Christmas every day is.
    • It's not impossible that other movie clips might have been shown in-universe if the makers of this special had spent more money to buy the rights to show clips from other Christmas movies and TV specials. Which they would probably have the budget for now, considering that Disney has since bought the Jim Henson Company and Sesame Workshop by extension.
  • So after a year of Christmas every day Christmas trees have become endangered to the point that instead of selling Christmas trees, Grover is now selling the "Christmas Trees For Sale" sign. But it seems odd that Christmas trees would be nearly extinct after a year when they were plentiful the year before. Not to mention, even with Christmas every day, why would people feel the need to buy a new tree every day? Unless they just kept dumping theirs which would be pointless if they knew it would be Christmas again the next day. The trees would at least last a few weeks. On the other hand, many people use artificial trees instead. You'd think lots more people would have switched to using artificial trees by this point.
  • With Christmas every day, Snuffy has been in Cincinatti with his grandmother for a whole year. Just because it's Christmas every day he can't come back to Sesame Street? Big Bird missed him badly and Snuffy likely missed him just as much. Could he not convince his grandma to return to Sesame Street? Or could they not travel on Christmas Day? Especially ironic since in the reset timeline, his grandmother actually ends up coming to Sesame Street for Christmas instead.
  • Not everyone in the world celebrates Christmas. If Western/Christian culture falls apart under the Christmas every day effect, would not other cultures and religions then remain unfazed by Elmo’s wish? Or would their economies become strained as Christmas-celebrating countries become dependent on their resources to survive and to continue fuelling the endless holiday?
